Or there’s one on Discogs for $1000.  Better hurry.

Got mine in. There’s definitely a triple groove with new music. Just try it enough times. Took me about an hour max.

Oh woe, looks like I'll need to part ways with one of my helicopters to afford all these special, yet reasonable priced, records vinyl LPs.

I have a feeling the manufacturing is completed on these though. Tool seems like an entity just old school enough that they wouldn't promise a release date unless they knew they were already ahead of it on having the units sitting and waiting to go out.

I know most labels and artists are just making promises and hoping their deadlines are going to be met by the plants even more so lately but it seems like Tool operate at a higher level when it comes to physical media and more than likely got preferential prioritization by the plants due to being such a well known artist.

    I am COMPLETELY speculating though.

For real when they say “A DECADE OF NOTHING” I at least thought we’d get some demos or relevant studio stuff from over the years.  And yeah being that it was /1000 there wasn’t much time to literally research all the shit needed to maybe figure out what this was inspired by.

Rereading the initial post/description I realize I did a disservice assuming anything but so did everyone lol.

Whatevs.  If it put food on their tables then cool.

That's fair. I'm a Tool fan unfortunately for me but with this record, I would probably skip that G side altogether. If there was a reasonable edition available, I'd be happy to add it to my collection and play it when the mood strikes. The album is legit but I haven't been blown away by a Tool album since Lateralus. Not that they've had a ton of efforts since then. But having only a $170 to $180 option makes it hard to keep up with maintaining a full LP collection for this band and the premise is that I would like to do just that.

They could easily put out a standard 2xLP or 3xLP in a standard gatefold and not feel the need to reinvent the physical music wheel and we could buy their pretty good record for about $35 to $45 and not feel nervous handling the set when we wanted to play it. At the end of the day no one is going to congratulate or reward them on their revolutionary packaging (OK maybe the Grammy's will but what is that really worth?) especially when it all drives the total cost to purchase A SINGLE BODY OF WORK  in the form a roughly 80 minute album up to nearly $200 after tax. Its still just one album.

I guess I'm just one of those vinyl playing crazies who likes to own the records that I like... on vinyl.

I'm surprised that Tool didn't decide that this just absolutely had to be a 5LP Picture disc

Pretty sure you and my IRL friend would get along very well because we’re basically this haha.   The tree trunk to our musical connection is the same but branches go in far different directions typically.

I can understand if someone can’t get into Grivo.  Feels like an all or nothing type of band.  Those warm moody tones hit the spot so perfectly for me so I can gobble it all up.  But if it doesn’t click for you then there’s basically zero variety in their two albums.

I haven’t had an album etch itself in my brain in a while quite like the new Grivo.  Wasn’t sure about it relative to Elude at first but I’ve literally listened to it at minimum once a day since release.  They craft such an incredible vibe with their music.  Impossible to get sick of.

Damn.  Different strokes / folks, perhaps.  Though I will say that it sounds like you probably tried out Mondaze more than I've spent time with Blushing.  I need to remedy that sooner than later.
Yeah it's weird that Nothing didn't seem to have any kind of real negative stigma from that incident.  The tweets, unfortunately, seemed to smear the Whirr name more than anything else.  I picture the captain of a sinking ship casually whistling while taking off his garb and slipping into a different uniform to board a vessel in better shape.
Speaking of Nothing, their release cycle is 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020.  They don't seem to miss a beat.  Considering how good I [still] think The Great Dismal is, I hope we're in store for something spicy this year.

People sure do write dumb, regrettable shit.  I remember a few years back when folks tried to cancel Deafheaven because someone dug up a tweet from 2011 where Kerry posted that George Washington was a “terrible faggot”, among other uses of the word.  All from 2011-2012 or so.  I’m sure he regrets it in hindsight but kids are dumb and treat the internet like it’s completely ephemeral, and not a permanent shrine to all of their publicly posted sins.
I think, for Whirr, the issue was bigger than dropping a slur among friends.  They didn’t know when to pump the brakes on their well-established online trolling persona, and it went off the rails into “bully” territory with a LGBTQ-allied band.  I forgot the details of the beef or who started what, but that G.L.O.S.S. band took the brunt of their jokes.  I think Nick tried to say it was their merch guy taking the piss, and everyone was trying to tell him to stop…?  It was a bit of a “🙄” tier explanation of the situation.  But I remember thinking that he was aware that he royally fucked up, and he seemed pretty levelheaded about stepping out of the spotlight and trying to become a better person.
You can agree to disagree since everyone’s tolerance on this kind of stuff fluctuates – separating the art from artists or whatever – but for me, I’m probably not gonna’ dismiss an entire band’s work because 1 member was toxic on Twitter a decade ago.  If you threw out their records and still boycott them, more power to you.  You’ve got more will and a stronger stance than I care to hold.  I still listen to Whirr and do not assume – but certainly at least hope – that Nick is a better person today than when he said what he did years back.

Alternatively, though that dude from Whirr is shitty, their music is pretty darn good and worth checking out.

Nothing, Blushing, Lacing, Newmoon are also worth a look.
