I just came across Japanese trumpet player, Takuya Kuroda. Great funky jazz. They just re-released this record, and it is expensive. I feel it is worth it considering it's a double and the cost of an original is high. First record I've bought in months.

Another way that I am dealing with FOMO is to tell myself that if I really want that record a year from now, it won't be a big deal to pay say $100+ for it, because I have already saved so much money not buying at standard retail. It all adds up so quickly. I'd rather have one amazing record than 4 that are good or okay. I think this will also make my collection more carefully curated, rather than blind buys of things that I listen to a few times and shelve. I'm actually proud of the self control I have shown, recently.

I have definitely found my obsession with records has faded. I've been doing this a looong time. The insane prices and all of the noobs calling records vinylz and buying them just to hang on the wall, has soured me on the whole experience. I should probably stay off Reddit. There's been many times we've been travelling and my wife asks me if I want to go to the local record store and I just say "nah". I also like having extra money. The evil Spotify has changed things for me. I just stream shit and ask myself if I really need to spend $35+ to listen to it on vinyl. Many times the answer is "not really".
Off the top of my head I can't really come up with a record I was truly excited about when I got it. Man, I'm being a downer! Maybe I'll come up with something later. Oh wait, the signed National "test pressing" was super cool. 😜

So I found a hole in the wall Thrift shop. Literally hidden in the corner of a small shopping center. There i found in the corner, about 50 jazz records up against the wall. Most were from the 50s some 60s and 70s. Couldn't buy them all.  But came out with about five Brubeck and some Michel Legrand, Cal Tjader and Kai with JJ Johnson. Was a lot more but couldn't take them all.
Also this popped up in my email:
Really excited about this. But it's already sold out on Amazon. Hopefully my local will be able to preorder this for me.

This is precisely what I've tried to tell myself, however, I've let that logic lapse a few points throughout the year.  I panic buy so many POs becasue I'm fearful that the price will skyrocket, and I won't be able to obtain one down the road.  But let's face it - that is just silly.  Everything gets re-pressed.   And as you point out, even paying double or triple the price on the aftermarket for an album I develop a true affection for will still limit my spending (and space) in comparison to blind buying everything I anticipate enjoying or digging a single from.
I accidentally stumbled upon some old vinyl invoices in my email from Deathwish and SoundStageDirect a couple weeks back...stuff from 10+ years ago.  Seeing the price difference is just staggering.   And it's not just the price hike, but the shipping hike.  I buy 99% of my records online, so shipping costs have stopped me from pulling the trigger on numerous occasions throughout 2023.

Lucky break for sure! I wasn't alive when that record came out (36), but I was ecstatic to catch that variant at a record show also grabbed a bunch of descendents/ ALL, Cramps, and INXS. I spent too much money, but it was less than buying reissues of everything (except the DK LP).

Nice! Bought that when it came out. It's part of the reason why my parents took my records away when I was a kid. I was walking around the house singing "I Hate Children" by the Adolescents(singer Tony and I had a laugh about that on Myspace since we both became teachers) and "Kill the Poor". I tried to explain to my parents the real meaning behind that song and the others by DK and they wouldn't have it. LUCKILY, my dad kept the records and I found them in pristine condition about 15 years later.

Fuck the Inquisition dude. NSBM fucktard and into kiddie porn? You can't get worse than that. If you support them by buying records then you're a cunt too. It's beyond separating the art from the artist.

I am really enjoying the latest Horrendous album. So many different things going on. Completely slept on this one. If anyone has a yellow, red, black, voodoo copy, let me know. I have many boxes of metal and other records for trade. Maybe we can work something out.

I have 5 of their records and have seen them live a few times years ago.  After having kids it made me realize I'm not interested in supporting someone like that.  Weird stuff, I know.  Good for you if you are.  They need every fan they can get.

VC is not a “what is this record worth?” kinda place. Take those queries and research to Disccogs and eBay. Not here.
Looking for info on that "rare" album you found at your parent's basement? There's a thread dedicated to that type of stuff. Post your queries there. Don't create a new thread asking info about that shitty Beatles record you found at Goodwill.
