SRC Limited Pink Vinyl Releases for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Recommended Posts

So it looks like SRC is doing a limited pink vinyl run for breast cancer awareness month in October so if anyone is interested in these artists you should buy them as a portion of proceeds from these vinyl sales go to Keep a Breast Foundation as well as Gilda's Club NYC on behalf of RED Distribution. Breast cancer effects many women and men so this is pretty cool to see SRC doing something like this for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Here are the releases...

I'm always against donating at store checkouts and things like this for various causes. Reason being... The bit extra that you pay for the record becomes a TAX WRITE-OFF for the company... even though technically YOU donated.

When this is done, it's a bit scammy, IMO.

Sadly people that cry about his much src is donating probably wouldn't donate either way

You've got a point. Nobody even has to dump ice water on themselves.

The general consensus of this thread is basically: everything is terrible and everyone is the worst.

Fine, but a good friend of mine who lost her mother to breast cancer told me that even though breast cancer research only gets a small percentage of the donations made, it's still pretty shitty to not donate at all, or worse try and influence others not to donate in any aspect. If people want to do backdoor budget research and refuse to support this then don't, but whistle blowing against charity organizations is tasteless and immature, regardless of how you feel about a goddamn internet record store.

I agree with the general idea of most of this. But I don't think there is anything wrong with letting people know where their money is going and what percentage of that money is actually being used for research.  If someone is looking to donate to breast cancer research, and they're thinking of going with someplace like Susan G. Kommen, but they find out that most of that money won't end up where the want; they now have the chance to donate to a charity who will use more of their donation appropriately.

I don't think we should influence people not to donate at all, but I think people should be educated about where their money is actually going.

When I posted I was expecting people to be like "wow that's a great idea from SRC and good for them to help raise money for breast cancer research" so the way everyone has been acting was a little shocking. My step-mom was diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2011 and today she is cancer free. So I was more than happy to spend money on that Angels & Airwaves record in which $5 goes towards research.
