Finally got some legendary gear this weekend. Going into Friday the only legendary I had was the hunters helmet from the queen's wrath. Luckily I found two lvl27 who helped me complete the weekly nightfall at lvl 28 (i was lvl 24 or 25). Got enough strange coins to get lucky raspberry from xur. Then I got my first legendary piece from  a blue engram but it was for a titans arm and then i got my first legendary engram from the post office and it ended up being an exotic chest piece for a titan as well, luckily i had actually started doing a titan character so this has given me motivation to get him up to lvl 20). Finally got enough vanguard reps to get to rank two and bought legendary pieces for my hunters legs and arms, and then finally got my first exotic bounty, decided to go for the pocket infinity since my gear allows me to carry extra fusion ammo. need to break down some rare fusion rifles and then i will be close to being done. this morning i got another legendary engram and got the super pox vlo. Super pumped with how productive this weekend was. I went from one legendary to having all legendary armor and an exotic chest piece a legendary primary weapons and a exotic special on the way. i am really pumped to get my titan up to level 20 (currently level 6) since some of the hardest stuff was gifted to my hunter, plus then you can pool strange coins/motes of lights and other stuff to pick up exotics for each character.

nice haul jesus of suburbia and chris watch out this will suck you in...

blehhh I wanted to play Destiny more this weekend but I'm so bored. What's the point of amassing all this exotic/legendary gear when you can't use more than 1 piece of exotic in armor/weapon.  It would be more worthwhile if I could actively mix and match and had something to strive for.

I'm only level 28 and I know Batman and Shlebs will give me shit but, I just don't see what the point is when there's nothing else you can get to make your equipment better except for stockpiling for the potential future where you can use more exotics or run the Raid ONCE A WEEK.

Nice! I finally hit 24 and my blues can't take me any farther. Hopefully I get the same luck you got and get some legendary items soon. I'm working on my vanguard stuff but I think im still far from being able to buy items.

Yeah working up the Vanguard points is a huge pain... but it really does help. By finally unlocking I was able to complete my armor (so many vanguards from playing strikes) and get close to making the final push in terms of levels. My goal now is to get a vault of glass run in before it expires today. I have trouble finding a group for PS3, but hopefully i will come across something tonight.

I've just been running the daily bounties and maxing vanguard. would really like to run the VOG on hard mode before it resets. probably going to try out destinyLFG.net later.

i really wanna run the raid on hard, but i don't want to have to chance another shitty destinyLFG group. i was lucky to even get through on normal, my group was horrible haha.

I'll get you in when I try hard. We'll have 2 30s and 4 29s so it'll prob be hard haha

Also there is no reviving

RNGesus just hooked me up with a hawkmoon from a legendary engram acquired from the daily heroic. suhweet.

That's an awesome drop, and I am happy for you... but, goddammit.  Between you nabbing that Hawkmoon and Shlebs rocking the Monte, I feel like I can't catch a break over here.  There's like, a total of 4 or 5 guns I'd love to get my hands on... and I feel like it'll never happen.

To the general Destiny players in this thread: is anyone else having shit luck with this game?  I vented to Batman about this the night before last, but I feel like I have the absolute worst luck with every drop (or lack thereof) in the game.  It was a little irritating at first, and then kind of funny, but now it's outright frustrating and sort of killing my desire to play the game.  Apologies for the major whine fest here;

Vault of Glass / Raid.  I understand that to better your odds of good shit, you need to do the Raid weekly.  On Normal I've probably completed the Raid about 4 or 5 times.  Or rather, those were runs where I was receiving loot.  I've done the entire Raid no less than 7 times at this point, but a few of those were just to help out friends and their secondary characters.  (Which resulted in nothing for me, but I knew that going in.)  And of those 5 Normal runs, I've received Ascendant materials 100% of the time.  Every chest.  Every wave / encounter completion.  Every boss.  I'm so fucking tired of seeing "Ascendent _____" pop up on my screen.  Meanwhile, the friends I'm helping... they're opening chests and finding Exotics (Plan C, Hawkmoon) and scoffing.  "Ugh, I already have thisGuess I'll dismantle it for shards."  So frustrating.

Now that I think about it, there was one time I beat Atheon and I received a legendary ship.  But I don't think I could've possibly cared less.  Maybe that makes me ungrateful, but I couldn't help but stare at my screen in dismay.  After 5 Atheon runs, I haven't even received the Chatterwhite shader.  I shit you not.

The one piece of Raid gear I've received was when a friend invited me to the final boss (Atheon) on Hard, and his experienced Warlock buddies managed to glitch him off the map.  I was in their room for a total of 2 minutes, and scored a Raid helmet and a Sparrow (like Jesus of Suburbia), and that was that.  I'm not frustrated that I got the helmet - like I mentioned, it's the one and only piece of Raid gear that I have, so I'm grateful - but what gets me is that I didn't do shit for it.  My friend / co-worker who invited me? - he joined a minute before I did, right at the very end.  And while he did get to run up and help out with grenading Atheon off the map, he contributed just as little as I did to the entire Hard Raid.  But instead of a Sparrow and a helmet, he scored a Raid chest piece and the Vex Mythoclast.  Yup.  The drops are so fucky and unbalanced in Destiny; it boggles my mind.  Which sparks my next point of frustration:

The Crucible.  I can't score with Crucible drops to save my life.  It's so goddamn inconsistent and I find myself pulling out my hair over it.  I've been playing it quite a bit lately, since my second character needs marks for legendary gear - and praise [RNG]Jesus that those aren't randomly generated - so I've been seeing a lot of drops across the board.  Just not for me.  Games where I pull the team and land 40 kills earns me a shit-tier pulse rifle that I've received 20 times over, while the guy in last place scored a Plan C Exotic fusion rifle.  This is nothing new... I mean, I think we all established that Crucible drops were a joke just a few pages ago.  And as much as I hate to sound like a brat who's pointing and crying ("You don't deserve that!  I deserve that!")... seriously; what the fuck?  I had another game where I absolutely dominated.  29 and 2, with a landslide victory.  I didn't receive anything, but some dude who went 8 and 11 scored himself a Hawkmoon (or maybe The Last Word?  Some kind of Exotic hand cannon.)  And I'm pretty sure I've seen people join at the last moment, die once or twice without contributing any points, and walk away with a Legendary engram.  Uhh... what?

I wouldn't be throwing a fit if the system was consistent.  Those two games I mentioned in the last paragraph were among my best, but I am hardly a Crucible legend.  If I'm playing solo and I get paired up against a party of 6, I get stomped and there's not much I can do about it.  And even those games, where I'm sandwiched in the middle of the losing team's scoreboard and go 10 and 8... nothing.  I can't find shit.  But it's those games where the top performer on my (losing) team will at least get two blue engrams, or a purple engram and a strange coin.  I don't get it.  But it legitimately feels like I can't win.

And the cherry on top of all this?  That aforementioned friend / co-worker... after work on Friday morning, we thought we'd celebrate our last shift of the week (which was also our payday) with a little 05 AM Destiny.  So we each get home and sign on, and eventually party up with a mutual friend to do the Daily mission.  Our friend and I zoom ahead at the start of the mission; my co-worker is "paying a few bills real quick" and tells us to hold up.  (Which we obviously ignore.)  But in hindsight, I guess I should've taken his advice... because at the end of the mission, the 3rd friend and I received a single blue engram [with 90+ kills a piece] while my co-worker, with ~20 kills, was rewarded a blue and a purple.  The best part is that he maybe played for a total of 3 minutes.  Long enough to hop on his Sparrow, zoom across the map to where we were duking it out with the final wave of enemies, use his super, and clean up a few kills.

So... I don't know, guys.  All of these examples have me scratching my head and wondering why the fuck I even bother trying at this point.  Anyone else in the same boat?  All of my Exotics I've either earned purchased from Xur or earned through bounties.  (And the one Exotic piece of armor I want for my Titan, Xur carried during the first week the game was released... but that's it.  Still waiting.)  I feel like the Destiny Gods are just pointing and laughing at this point.  Should I just go AFK in Crucible and Strike playlists?  Find 2 friends who are willing to do the Nightfall or a Raid while I just sit back and twiddle my thumbs?  That seems to be the best way to score rare loot.

Meanwhile, 1 out of 3 Crucible matches I'm playing has someone on the other team with the Vex Mythoclast, absolutely destroying my team.  I was relieved when Bungie nerfed the gun... but even now, it's still ridiculously powerful, and a total free pass for anyone with sloppy aim in PVP.  But just yesterday I read that Bungie is reversing that nerf, and going to up the damage on it?  They state that they want the Vex Mythoclast to be more powerful than the other Exotics.  So... that's cool.  It's gotten to the point where I have a sniper rifle as my secondary in PVP, because it's the only gun that can win in a Mytho toe-to-toe.  Unless you're both rounding the corner and you've already got a shotgun equipped or a fusion rifle charging up, you're going to die.  No auto rifle, scout rifle, pulse rifle, or hand cannon can drop a Mytho wielder before they can drop you.  Even landing headshots with a heavy machine gun, I'm lucky if I can get a mutual kill against a Mytho kid at mid range.

Anyways.  It feels great to get all of that off my chest.  Despite the awful story, redundant worlds and missions, repetitive tasking, and absolute horse-shit reward system... I've still been playing the game almost daily since launch.  I don't know what's wrong with me.  This past week has been super trying as far as my patience goes, though.  I can't help but shudder when I think back to all of the time I put in on those Crucible matches and Raids, and the complete lack of significant armor or weapons I have to show for it.

But Ascendant materials.  I've got Ascendant materials for days.  They're kind of pointless when you can't get a single item to use them on, though.

Thanks for reading, dudes.  Sorry for sounding like a total crybaby.

[edit]

To clarify on a few things – the main reason I sign on to Destiny is because I have a blast playing with my friends when they're online.  That includes you dudes at VC.  It's nice to nerd out about vinyl and videogames with Batman, especially, since we can relate to a lot of the same stuff.  I'll take shitty drops and use weak weapons all day, so long as I get to game with him and the rest of you dudes.

And I also didn't mean to imply that anyone should have to do anything God Tier (like go 50 and 0 in Crucible) to receive the guns and gear you guys have found.  There's absolutely nothing wrong with being shocked as hell when you score a purple engram from a daily, and it turns out to be an Exotic.  My beef is that those lucky drops seem to always go to the players who aren't even trying, or who don't contribute a fraction as much as their teammates.  Is it Bungie's way of saying "oh, shit, this player kind of sucks... we better toss them a bone"?  I don't know.  Either way, I didn't mean to downplay your guys' sweet loot.
