David The Gnome
Score one for the good guys and by good guys I mean the shitheads at USPS.
pizza face
Ok you don't know what you're talking about. I ship media mail a good bit and I never pay the extra 90 cents for tracking. The PID number on the receipt is and always was traceable on the USPS website. A friend at the post office told me this about 2 years ago This is true. You actually told me about this first when I sent you a record a while back. I never pay for tracking anymore. Although at one point a few months ago I was going to this smaller post office so much to the point where the dude knew my name and I always said no tracking so I think he voided the PPID number or something so I stopped going to that one and have been getting it free every time. They still always ask too haha DustinSoper and thievedrelic
youspinmeround
Ive never paid for tracking for Media Mail, the Delivery Confirmation # always worked the same as tracking. i am confused. .are you not paying for delivery confirmation? why would I need dc and tracking? Chuck Shivers
I've been using it for free though eBay, but the same tracking numbers never work for me if I enter them myself on the USPS website.
IanRees
i am confused. .are you not paying for delivery confirmation? why would I need dc and tracking? thats the point, you don't. Media mail comes with delivery confirmation which works the same as tracking, or at least used to until today I guess?
futures
yeah media mail was introduced by US Congress for libraries and spread to the public by FDR in the '30's. Under the US hood only KNOWLEDGE

kamalatapes
So confused. Haha. Ok those of you who say it's free, can I just go to the post office and ask for media mail and it's included? (can someone highlight the portion of the receipt?) I'm just trying to rule out some people aren't using eBay only because for sure they add tracking to all media... headfirst! records
I saw on Endicia the rates changed, and its ingrained in my head how much certain packages cost when adding shit to the spreadsheet working on orders and got really confused for a minute today when it was 3.22 instead of 3.40 then realized what the deal was! weird there is a change they made that I actually like - it might only be 20 cents or so but we ship a fuckton of media mail out! HoneyFrosted
I don't see how this can be anything but good news.
Satan
Where I'm at - the first 4 numbers of TRACKING always started with 9440. (when you pay for it) The first 4 number of the PID always started with 9114. (When you didn't pay for it) They both worked as tracking. One was free one wasnt. Yes I always handwrote my packages and stood in line. This post was pointless and I'm not too sure why I even wrote it. Oh well.
cantdance
Yeah I found out about this today! I'm a semi-regular at the PO And the lady told me excitedly that they now include tracking for free on media mail. It was cute.

There will always be a dc # on your receipt wether you add tracking or not.
lampwick
I'm just trying to rule out some people aren't using eBay only because for sure they add tracking to all media... if I'm misunderstanding, apologies, but I just sent something via ebay tonight and it was indeed .20c cheaper than normal (Tracking was included/free via ebay/paypal). It's similar to Endicia or Stamps.com on the surface but factor in that shipping fee it's probably like 10 cent cheaper. Unless you had put Free shipping then they won't take a shipping fee cut, but you'll still receive a discount.
apirk
Was pleasantly surprised when I mailed some stuff today. Always just used the PID but like a month or two ago they stopped working in the site. When j asked about it they said they fixed a glitch in the system.

ChasHawk
So the real question is, will this stop people from charging $9 s&h for one LP on ebay? tape
Guest
So this won't affect paypal shipping? It's the only way I ship. I guess it does not matter, since the buyer is paying. It's always $3.40 for media w/ shipping confirmation, unless it's over 3 pounds.
One Hundred Fifty-Two
So the real question is, will this stop people from charging $9 s&h for one LP on ebay?Well besides the fact that there has been a $4 cap on media mail for a long time. If they pick priority then they will still charge $9 and still be in the right.
pizza face
I remember reading someone wanting a picture of a receipt Granted the package was over 2 lbs because it's 808s and heartbreaks but the tracking is free.. I didn't even notice it says tracking and not PPID. Also now that I can recall the person helping me out only asked if I needed insurance.
