Your favourite 10 albums by artists from your hometown, place where you currently live, or general area scene. Interpret hometown/local however you feel like! Here's my 10 from Toronto, in no order I think my all-time favourite Toronto album is probably Sarah Harmer's 'You Were Here.' I don't really know much Halifax-area music from before the 90s. My favourite albums from the early to mid-90s alt. boom are: Jale - Dreamcake Sloan - Twice Removed Hardship Post - Somebody Spoke In terms of more recent stuff these would be my faves: Jenn Grant - The Beautiful Wild Old and Weird - What I Saw Mauno - Rough Master Mike O'Neill - Wild Lines Dark For Dark - Warboats Gabrielle Papillon - The Tempest of Old Gianna Lauren - On Personhood Jennah Barry - Young Men Kim Harris - Only the Mighty Quiet Parade - s/t My faves so far in 2016 from Halifax are: Nap Eyes - Thought Rock Fish Scale Ronok Sarkar - Waiting For Alice There should be several more good ones coming. Sidney Crosley
Great list dartmike! I love Nap Eyes - especially Whine of the Mystic. I'm still deciding about the new one. I like that it is a change of pace but I wasn't as immediately drawn to it as I was to Whine. Forgot about Sarah Harmer - though I'm not so familiar with any one album of hers to pick. dartmike
I love Nap Eyes - especially Whine of the Mystic. I'm still deciding about the new one. I like that it is a change of pace but I wasn't as immediately drawn to it as I was to Whine. Yeah, Whine was great but for whatever reason I'm enjoying the new one even more. Their first compilation CD had some good tracks on it too. Worth checking out if you haven't yet. Do you know that band Beams? I think they're a Toronto band. I really loved their debut CD a couple/few years ago. One of my recent Toronto faves. And just because you mentioned a couple Guelph acts, have you ever checked out Alanna Gurr? I loved her Late At Night album. I saw Nap Eyes this past summer and they were really good. I think they're playing again here in Edmonton in the near furture, so I'll probably go to that too. I think that's probably a good idea. Argh---too many to list. Haha. This must indeed be pretty tough for someone living in New York. Not a lot that you all would have heard of out of my hometown minus Eric's Trip - so here's Moncton, N.B. I feel like even here in NS I don't hear much about Moncton bands, more about Sackville. paynegretzky
I feel like even here in NS I don't hear much about Moncton bands, more about Sackville. There are/were some very good ones. Some of the ones I listed will play on and off - no real consistency. People seem to jump bands and start new ones often, plus there aren't many great venues. It feels old and overdone, if that makes sense. And I agree with the Sackville comment. I went to MtA for 4 years and felt the music scene tenfold more than Moncton, with a population like 70 times smaller. I have a number of friends that made the move to Halifax over the summer. Trying to keep up with some new stuff there.

elnombre91
Well I've only been in Edinburgh for a year and a half, so I don't really know much about the local scene, but for anyone who's a fan of Full of Hell, I'd definitely recommend checking out Godhole. Great band and real nice dudes to boot. Their ep with Crozier is fucking awesome. https://godhole.bandcamp.com/album/anthrophobia
