whoshotthefrog
Randal Grichuk has a .289 ISO and 6 more XBH than base hits this season in 273 PA. I wonder how many times a guy has finished a season with more XBH than hits in a season with 400+ PA. Mark Reynolds has twice done it (2010, 2011) and once had exactly the same number of each (2009). Adam Dunn did it 5 times and had exactly the same number once... I suppose some other three true outcome guys have too, maybe its not as rare as it seems. Albert Belle did it in 1995 and just missed out on accomplishing it in 1998.

stl_ben
I will be very happy if Randal is as good as any of the players he keeps getting compared to with these stats...

Not comparing necessarily, but he's certainly going to put up enough WAR this season to warrant some attention.

NapalmBrain
ugh, the astros CANNOT win on the road I hope you are right, we could use this 2 game sweep after the Giants just had a pretty rough, road trip. I mean we are trying to break the cycle and go back to back
catalinacaper
Angels just doubled Wade Davis and Greg Holland's ERA's tonight. Holland faced 6, 4 runs, no outs, pulled mercifully.
abovetheearth
Herrera last night with DET. they were bound to get knocked around. holland hasn't been the same since his DL stint earlier in the year.
catalinacaper
I feel like bullpen fatigue on a fairly lackluster starting pitching team is going to be an issue after how much Herrera/Davis/Holland have been relied on since last season. At least down the stretch and in October.
abovetheearth
exactly. below lackluster starters. only 2 complete games all season. two blown saves in 2 days. the HDH riddle has been solved.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Brewers play last place Philly trhis weekend, for a battle of worst in MLB. as much as I am bummed this season has been a bust, I have really enjoyed all the young pitchers getting an opportunity to finally show if they're worth a dime. I also LOVE craiggers.
catalinacaper
exactly. below lackluster starters. only 2 complete games all season. two blown saves in 2 days. the HDH riddle has been solved. Can't discern if there's sarcasm in this. I was only mentioning it because it has been one theory behind why the Giants (who have had a very similar bullpen for the last few WS wins) do so poor on off years. Their bullpen again this season has been subpar despite mostly the same guys.

Their bullpen again this season has been subpar despite mostly the same guys. no sarcasm. our starters have never been strong, we just relied on offense and each time they score, we'd score...then pacify enough to bring in our closers, which arent as effective. they had some amazing stats/streaks but closers and set up men get figured out. its the majors, guys are gonna catch up to you very quickly. i think ned needs to close with Davis now and put holland second. they are all getting smacked around but Davis less. catalinacaper
It would be interesting to see if there's any correlation between bullpen innings the previous season (amongst returning non-injured members) and FIP or the like in the current season. sacredheart
It doesnt look like Herrera has been solved. Davis has been dealing with a back issue, and Holland, well, Holland might be solved/gased from last year.
hippielauryn
Was just saying yesterday that they need to make Davis the closer. It would be the smart thing to do.

thejesseb
Went to the orioles game today. Blowout on the A's 18-2. Parra was 5-6 and a triple short of the cycle. Such a fun game.
catalinacaper
Where do the Nats go from here? Even if they squeak out the division, they aren't going anywhere. Amazing how the sabr predictions were so right on KC and so wrong on them.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The nats blow my mind. On paper that team should be one of the best, and theyre sitting at
