kirbypuckett
Flyers had Simon Gagne waive his no trade clause in his contract. Looks like they're going to move him to make cap room for this Russian kid, Zherdev. I saw on Puck Daddy that he didn't waive it. Also... Found this at my parent's house today:
kyleevanswastaken
Leafs picked up another D, Brett Lebda. In this signing, I take it Tomas Kaberle is out the door in favor of some help up front.I wonder how truthful all the grumblings about him heading to Anaheim are. Burke Needs to get rid of Kaberle and Grabovski. Burke needs to aquire Savard and a top 3 left winger.

forgeagain
Man, fuck Doug Wilson and the Sharks. $14MM over 4 years on the offer sheet for Hjalmarsson? GENIUS. I'm sure the Blackhawks will match it and make the cap situation even more brutal for next year. Still, I was hoping they could keep Hammer under $3MM for the next few years. thesack18
About the only good thing about living here and being a hockey fan is its hockey season all year round. AIHL starts up just as the NHL finishes. Then finishes just as the NHL starts again. Having said that, id swap 4 months of AIHL for 8 months of NHL any day. 100resolutions
is it september yet? Can't wait for the new season. I went to see the Habs training last week with all the young players trying to impress the coach. that was pretty cool. Subban and Eller were awesome. drabley
Sammy, give us the inside track on Kovalchuk. I'm tired of reading this on again / off again bullshit.
Snaggle Von Swift
Carcillo signed one year, for a little over a million. pretty much guarantees that Gagne or Carter is gone (looking like Gagne), and Asham won't be resigned.

If only we have space on the cap in Montreal to grab Gagné, that would be awesome!
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Sammy, give us the inside track on Kovalchuk. I'm tired of reading this on again / off again bullshit. agreed. I read somewhere that NJ offered a 12 year $100 Million dollar contract to him.
mcm1610
They need to cap NHL contracts at like 5 or 6 years. Players change too much over 12 years, especially when they're Hossa's age. I mean, look at that DiPietro contract... worth it at all?
teganandsara
the point with long contracts is to relieve cap hit and also a player that signed a contract before the age 35 can retire and the cap hit will be gone. The longer the contract the more it leans to the teams favour but there is always risks.

It's ridiculous that a team can front-load a contract for a real salary for 2 or 3 years, then go league minimum for 9 more and stretch it out, lowering the cap hit. That's deliberately circumventing the cap.

teganandsara
Also the Nhl has to approve those contracts so blame the NHl and Betman not the GMs.

drabley
Kovalchuk to stay in NJ. Thank fucking christ; now we can all get on with our lives. I was expecting an Anderson Cooper piece if this continued on much longer. Kovi crisis, day 17 or some shit.

drabley
I take back what I said earlier about loopholes. 17 year contract for a 27 year old, or anyone for that matter, is just ridiculous. The average carreer length for NHL forwards is 5.43 years.
mcm1610
Like I just told my friend on the old facebook, if any team is going to circumvent the cap hits later, it'll be the Devils. Lou is the master at hiding salary.
