ronniegwilliams
Well I've never Read it and have always heard a lot of people talk about it and stuff so I assumed it was worth reading. Too much hype? Would you suggest I not even bother with it? I would highly recommend giving it a read. It reads as a road map through early American culture, race, music and art. Seriously, though I agree that it is dated, it is highly worth the read.
batman
i haven't been this excited for a book since Only Revolutions let me down hard in '06 :S its gotta be good, right? otherwise 26 more volumes is gonna be a hard sell
rooks
It's gonna be great. Everything I've read from early readers suggests HoL fans will be in love.
hxcoliver
It's a fast read. History repeats itself and the themes are still relevant, it just felt really outdated to me. I'd say you should still give it a shot. Plus, I think I found my copy for 99 cents. Alright I'll still pick it up and give it a read. It's not like I have anything to lose
TheGhostOfRandySavage
I say this every 10 pages or so, so it's probably time. Any of you who haven't read at least the first three Dune books need to get on that.
aarondltd
Anyone need a like new copy of Ubik just let me know. Someone has my copy but I couldn't let this sit and its a cooler looking edition than mine which I might not see again anyways.
radiatorhums
I see Ready Player One at every book store I go to. Always been intrigued but never picked it up. I read it a while ago and liked it a lot. It's pretty 'I Love the 80s', which I could see being off putting to some, but I dug it. Probably due to growing up in that decade. Just started Cormac McCarthy's "Blood Meridian" Hope you like being bummed out. Read that a few months ago and it's bleak. I liked it more in hindsight than I did while I was reading it. I finished The Buried Giant last week and thought it was good. I'm about 20 pages away from finishing Girl in a Band and it's been a fun read. Missed this. Yeah I spent so much time trying to find the first one used and now it sits here. I did start it, just not very far.

I absolutely love McCarthy's ability to paint a picture that comes across as both gorgeous and abysmal at the same time. Anytime somebody asks what kind of fiction I write, I always tell them to think of McCarthy and rural America.
rooks
Ohhhhh shit I knew this would happen. My copy of the Familiar shows up tomorrow before 8pm via Amazon. But, I just heard via Reddit that the book store I frequent in NYC has copies for sale already. Seriously debating a lunchtime trip despite the needless expense. Haha... but.. I mean... I've waited 10 years... surely I can be patient, right?

rooks
My PO from Barnes and Noble hasn't even shipped yet . Maybe try a local shop? Strand in NYC is apparently selling it already. I had a prime trial going at the time I ordered it on Amazon so it was guaranteed release day delivery.
WAXXX
all this hype makes me want to give The Familiar a shot. maybe i should go back and try to finish House of Leaves? only got a couple chapters in, but it was a pdf. maybe i need the actual book. rooks
you 100% absolutely need the actual book. it's one of very few books that REQUIRES the physical aspect. And that's not blind fandom talking... it DEPENDS on the physical form. museummouth

And when you get to a certain part in the book it's jawdropping to be holding the book.

rooks
I couldn't be happier about the thought of having an entire shelf of MZD. Probably two shelves. One of my read and totally destroyed copies, and one of my crisp mint ones
GHOSTDRONES
I've got about 150 pages left in Dune. Its damned good but I'll definitely be reading something light after this. It is heavy... you should check out Dune Messiah and Children of Dune at some point as those continue the original trilogy.
