TooManyHumans.....
Seeing a band live without knowing any of the material is always a blast..................
slinch
I saw them a couple of days ago, in a small club. It was a blast. It was also the first time I saw a band play 20 songs straight without pausing for even a second between them.
surforsink
It's possible since this was a supporting tour for them, they just played a bunch of newer songs, as that's what they are trying to sell, their new record. I saw them last thursday and they play 4 songs from White Crosses (and Russian Spies) and 7 songs from As The Eternal Cowboy. I saw them a couple of days ago, in a small club. It was a blast. It was also the first time I saw a band play 20 songs straight without pausing for even a second between them. They seem to have chosen the Ramones formula, minus the "1-2-3-4!". bgdesign
Caught a show with them and Ted Leo in Detroit. I enjoyed it. For his, his own.

imaminorthreat
tom gabel owes us all an apology for white crosses.... terrible album. that band is dead to me. and just to be clear, dead to me kicks ass. against me sucks balls.
philviral
Saw them back in 04, small venue, probably 50 people max. They were sooo lively and energetic. Great show. And afterwards me and some friends went for drinks with Tom and Warren. Saw them again recently (2 years ago?) and they were way different. Boring, as OP described. Times change but at least I have some great memories.
jonnywreck
I saw them play an acoustic, full band set this year. It was awesome. They pretty much only played old songs with a few new peppered in. To those of you that wish they were more raw and unprofessional, I get the sentiment, but realistically, when a band plays together for years they tend to become more professional. kriss
someone also needs to make memes where he's screaming about 'where is the risotto/this risotto is awful'. Those are beyond amazing. /AM! Gordon Ramsey shared thread.

Not all of us. I loved White Crosses. Is it the same anarcho-punk of old? Of course not. Does that make it a terrible album? Absolutely not. steventangent
I can't believe you're all so hung up that someone would check out a band by seeing them live instead of listening to their recordings first...

almightyseancore
i saw them with riverboat gamblers shortly before their 3rd album came out, and i had a blast.
deafmx
saw them between Mastodon and Cursive in I believe 2006. I was bored to tears. looking back on them live, they remind me of the Mumford & Sons of punk rock or something. all their songs sounded really similar and they played like an hour as a opener. I just wasn't feeling it at all.
robthepenguin
I never really got into them. I saw them back in '08 when they opened for Foo Fighters. I liked them better than Serj Tankian... God damn... Sorry to change the subject, but anyone seen System of a Down yet since they got back together?
hudsoncomplex
i saw them with riverboat gamblers shortly before their 3rd album came out, and i had a blast. I saw 2 of the shows on that tour, and they ruled! It was the first time I saw RBG, and I now think that they're probably the best small club band I've ever seen. RBG put on a fantastic set. their singer climbed the rafters, onto the cocktail tables, and then walked across the tables and onto the bar, stepping on peoples drinks and kicking beer bottles on the floor. all while singing. it was fucking dandy.
