While I'm shitting on things that the majority of people like, Chuck Palahniuk sucks. He's awful. Bullshit pretentious sank. I usually hate the term pretentious as a criticism or perjorative, I find it lazy, but his shit is prentious and lame as hell. He wrote a few very good novels early on and the rest of his work has been boring. Fight Club tho... Fight Club was kind of a mess as a novel. I feel like it worked much better as a film.
