The Mondo Records Thread - You think limited? Will sell fast?

Recommended Posts

New JP information from a Wired interview today. Aside from the amber variant having a pressing of 1000 (which we knew), the other variant was pressed to 2000 and its black counterpart to 3000. That's smaller than I'd expected, but still a whole heap of records.

Ah so better odds than usual at getting the other variant.

I feel a little more confident I can snag the amber one !!

"Ishmael says he expects most of them to sell to Mondo disciples, not audiophile superfans. However, considering the deep emotional investment millennials have in both Jurassic Park and vinyl, this particular soundtrack might spread beyond the company’s typical target demo."

Most of these will sell to Mondo superfans simply due to the fact that the general public is at an extreme disadvantage if they've never done a Mondo drop (or 30) before and also the fact that a small dent will already be put into sales during the listening party a few days beforehand by the large local Austin Mondo fanboy contingency.  That said, this particular soundtrack will most certainly spread well beyond the typical Mondo fanbase.  I'd venture to guess this soundtrack will spread farther than any single OST Mondo has put out since they started their vinyl business and will easily be their most marketable release to date.  For that reason, I think there's a chance that even at 6,000 copies, this still might completely sell out relatively quickly and even the black copies may eventually generate an aftermarket.

Why? Everyone is going after the amber one first and will only buy the other version as a consolation if they strike out on the amber. I do like the trend of getting actual pressing numbers from Mondo lately, though.

For some reason I thought they were only making 200 amber. I must have gotten my numbers mixed with the Jesse PINKMAN vinyl? But my chances of getting one seems more likely than what I had originally thought.

Yeah, if it were only 200 ambers, more people would feel the need to attend the listening party and there wouldn't even be an online drop for it.  At 1,000 I'm sure plenty are comfortable waiting for the online drop to try for it.

Thank you. I was on my phone and I hate fiddling with that shit.

There's going to be a total of 6,000 of these... that's a lot of dino-records

I wonder if this is the most they've ever pressed. I'm sure Mo will pop by and tell us eventually, but I would've guessed they were around 5k for Halloween. Of course, I've absolutely no idea.

This point Ishmael says here is the exact same "general" sentiment I was getting at when I may have gone offtrack in a rant.

The point is still valid though.

I was trying to say, at the time, why this may be a more popular/harder-to-obtain release (and why more newer people were interested in the thread) and the fact about (millennials, vinyl collectors etc.).

It's like the perfect storm.

For the record, I am just generally happy about this release and I will not be upset if I just get a standard black copy.
