Derek™
So, call me stupid for bidding on something I want. It's the same as bidding on it with 5 seconds left Nupe.
kyacrash
I'm glad we're all in agreement. If I recall correctly the last time this topic was up for debate on this forum there were many mixed opinions and many people against sniping. homework
Yeah, I agree with the people who are saying that it's the only way to go about ebay. It really bugs me when people drive up the price with the item having 5 days left or something. My feels. proggie
alogical
I agree with ptrsev. The point of the max bid is to enter the maximum amount you are willing to pay. Most things on eBay I am not DYING to have, so I'll put it a max price and wait till the end to see if I win. A lot of times it doesn't work out but sometimes it does. No surprises when someone bids up twice as much as my max, I don't really care. Clearly there are always going to be other people who want the same thing and are willing to pay more than I am. partysmasher
It's a timed auction, bidding at the last second is part and parcel of taking part. If i'm awake when something ends i'll always bid as late as possible to get the best price.
tomfiend
why the hell WOULDN'T you do this. people who bid shit up early piss me off. A lot of the time it's probably partially the seller doing that from another account.

Derek™
But in all seriousness, shill bidding singlehandedly ruins eBay.
amnstypls
When I buy, I always snipe. I agree with Derek, and I love the adrenaline rush of the last 5 seconds of an auction. When I sell, I set the starting price at the lowest I could live with to prevent snipers from robbing me like I do.
maneatingcow
Whenever there is a charity auction I make sure to bid stuff up early and often.
KevinShishko
i feel like a pimp every time i roll in with a bid at 5 seconds left and win. bidding early on and finding out you win a few days later is no fun.

firefoxUSSR
I don't snipe, but I did recently bid one penny under the buy it now price. Got the record for the least amount possible, removed buy it now, and ruined any competition for the record. I also employ the 8 second rule, bid at 8 seconds to go, the most you're willing to spend... works great. That said, I've yet to snipe. When I care about getting records on eBay again, I'll do it. One Hundred Fifty-Two
Three easy solutions: Be online for the final seconds of an auction, use an ebay sniping tool, or BID MORE.

PC Music
I usually put in a bid at like 12 seconds so that if it's not the max bid I still have time to try one more time.
amnstypls
I usually put in a bid at like 12 seconds so that if it's not the max bid I still have time to try one more time. that also gives anyone else "one more time" to counterbid and kind of defeats the purpose. to do this effectively, you gotta go "absolute highest bid" at the last possible second. PC Music
Yeah, there is always that possibility. Hasn't happened to me yet. But I should probably start bidding like that.
