List of Restaurants/Breweries that brew there own root beer

Hey, 

 

I'm moving to a new part of the country soon for school and just wanted to know if people had any cool places where they got locally brewed root beer/soda. I know most BJ's restaurants brew their own root beer, but I was wondering what other cool places are out there.

 

Also cool are shops where you pick up bottled root beer/soda.

What "root" would you use to brew root beer? Isn't sassafras an endangered species and all the big companies use artificial flavorings?

just look for some candy shops, im sure they will have a bunch of sodas there too.

There's a place here in Columbus, GA that brews their own and apparently it's awesome.

 

But I hate root beer.

Giving us a location would probably best the best way to figure this out, especially if you are looking for breweries and other smaller establishments. Telling you about root beer from some tiny brewery in Western Washington isn't going to do you any good if you'll be living anywhere but here.

There's a place in Canmore, AB, Canada called Grizzly Paw. They brew a bunch of different sodas and they're all great, root beer included.

Fitger's in Duluth, MN has a tasty root beer you can get in pints or take home a growler. Also some of the best burgers in the Midwest.

Steelhead Brewery in Irvine CA brews a few different root beers.

If you're moving to south Louisiana, the Abita Brewery makes their own root beer. It's sweetened with sugar cane, so it's pretty great.

I love the idea of this thread because it has to do with root beer. As for what exaclty the OP is asking for I'm not sure. Again location would help.

 

In NYC Heartland Brewery makes their own beers, root beer, and a few other soda flavors. Great restaurant.

 

As for "breweries" making their own root beer I agree with smailtronic Abita is good stuff as well.

 

As for good root beers you could pick up in stores theres your standard root beers in store, and then theres stuff thats regional. Again in the NYC area Boylan's makes good root beers and amazing birch beers. I like Virgil's too (haha).

Root beer is the bees knees, Frosty's in Denton is awesome. I know it's bottled also but soooo much different out of the tap there.

Sorry people, should've been more specific. I'm moving to Ames to go to ISU for grad school, but I was genuinely interested in hearing of all the different places around the country that have cool root beer. I've lived on the west coast most of my life and well since there's not much to do in Ames, I hope to travel a lot during the summers and breaks.

don't drink the other kind. got some bad run-ins with it via family.

In Burlington there is Rookies Root Beer, which is available only on draft and at the farmers market. 

 

He makes Rookie's Root Beer, Dark Side, Ginger Beer, Maple Cream, Sarsaparilla, Red, and Sour Cherry and maybe more.

ya, almost went Ohio State, but ISU's stat Ph.D. program is ranked higher.
