Certified banger. Going to be a summer record for sure. And if you miss the old vocals, he's still a madman live and is screaming/yelling everything.

Zero Day doesn't slap and if you like the ignominious production by Agnello then, perhaps, you can get slapped. Also, totally agree that since very little production went into his vocals they stick out like a sore thumb. Out of key and very, very weak. They need multi-tracking, reverb and minor auto-tuning to sound ethereal, etc. But, I GET IT. They want to come across like a slacker 90s alt-rock band with tinny sounding guitars and lazy vocals. Kinda sounds a bit like Swervedriver without a budget. Listen, I am sure the rest of the songs will be great, but this shouldn't have been the single. It gives most of us a weak impression of what to expect.

Right?  Makes me want to pitch a hammock in the shade and sip on an iced tea while enjoying a breeze before comfortably dozing off.  Feels good, man.

Wes and Nick are great guys, and only an hour away. Love all their songs on the EPs -- can still put on repeat and never get tired - and this LP really opens them up a bit more. Highly recommend checking them out! I think they finally found a regular bassist as well. Tons of energy live. Since MayFly is no more they were talking to other labels vs. DIY'ing it all the way.

Spent the last couple days remodeling my office / record listening / storage area. Still a couple smaller things to do, like waiting for my 7" wooden boxes, new speakers and a couple more frames to arrive, but this is pretty much it.

What the fuck is wrong with people? I've had corner dings and shit on records I bought from Amazon and I did nothing because I'm a sane reasonable person. I know Amazon would replace that shit in a heartbeat too.

Okay, here it is: my 2016 spreadsheet..my project to keep track of this year's releases and what I thought of them since this summer. I definitely slacked in November & December...whoops.

It'll quickly become obvious that my rating scale is pretty positively weighted (not to mention I didn't go out of my way to listen to anything bad on purpose), so I detailed it at the bottom for explanation. Looking it over, I ended up with some really obvious/mainstream choices for my list:

    ALBUM OF THE YEAR LIST
    15. Thee Oh Sees - A Weird Exits
    14. Ripper - Experiment of Existence
    13. Danny Brown - Atrocity Exhibition
    12. Teen Suicide - It's the Big Joyous Celebration, Let's Stir the Honeypot
    11. A Tribe Called Quest - We Got It From Here...Thank You 4 Your Service
    10. The Dillinger Escape Plan - Dissociation
    9. The Avalanches - Wildflower
    8. Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool
    7. David Bowie -  ★ (Blackstar)
    6. Car Seat Headrest - Teens of Denial
    5. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Nonagon Infinity
    4. Weezer - Weezer (White)
    3. Aesop Rock - The Impossible Kid
    2. Jeff Rosenstock - Worry
    1. Into It. Over It. - Standards

(Run the Jewels might have made this list, but A. I'm counting it as a 2017 release and B. 7 days isn't enough time to decide whether or not it's AOTY material)

5 HONORABLE MENTIONS (IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER)
Nails - You Will Never Be One of Us
    Vektor - Terminal Redux
    Russian Circles - Guidance
    Death Grips - Bottomless Pit
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Skeleton Tree

5 EPs I ENJOYED (IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER)
The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die - Formlessness 2016
    Carly Rae Jepsen - E·MO·TION Side B
Nine Inch Nails - Not the Actual Events
    Aphex Twin - Cheetah
    clipping. - Wriggle

5 OF MY FAVORITE SONGS THIS YEAR (IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER)
Car Seat Headrest - 1937 State Park
    Aesop Rock - Mystery Fish
The Avalanches - Because I'm Me
Jeff Rosenstock - We Begged 2 Explode
Owen - Lost (Even if I thought the album was just okay, I love this song)

I already started a spreadsheet for 2017, starting with Brian Eno's new album which comes out today--what a way to start off 2017. See y'all next year!

Edit: I forgot to add this part...the absolute worst album I heard this year was James Ferraro's Human Story 3. It's the single most on-the-nose pretentious thing I think I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing. If it was only the electronic parts, it would be passable background music at best, but the mechanical spoken word was grating and too obviously trying to make a statement that I felt offended by the music while I endured its runtime.

mappingtheyears reacted to hori in Package found 4.5 years later at my side door today!
Crazy thing happened today. 6 years ago we bought a house and there was a side door to the house into the laundry room that the previous owner had bolted shut after having their house broken into. We never bothered to use it and left the bolted locks on it, just put the cats shitting box in front of the door and never thought about it for the past 6 years. Fast forward to today, me and my daughter were outside playing in the first snowfall of the year and decided to bug the shit out of my wife who was cranky inside the house playing some nicky nicky nine doors on her. We started at the front door of course but then decided to open the screen door at the side of the house to give a knock to that bolted up side door with the cats shit box on the other side. I guess I had never opened that outside side door since we moved in 6 years ago as to my shock sitting there was a uline type record mailer with bugs and crud all over it. I checked the date stamped on it and it was friggin May if 2012. The damn thing had been there for almost 5 years!! What the hell! I was sure it would be a disaster after opening that mailer up as it had basically been outside here in Canada for all that time.  The sender did a great job packing it as the bloody thing was in great shape still!  I had no clue what was inside though but doubted it was something of any value and was probably something I had either purchased again or didn't give a crap about anymore. Well it was neither, it was a record still on my want list that I never managed to get around to purchasing and the only album by this band I was still missing on vinyl. It was the original pressing of the Photo Album by Death Cab for Cutie and I know it was the original as the repress came out like 2 years after that damn package was delivered to the side door!

I should have just waited a couple days to get this in the mail but I couldn't help but listen to the leak, and it sounded fine to me. There are one or two tracks I'm not crazy about but otherwise I'm really pleased with how this came out. The last few tracks really did it for me.

It definitely still sounds like a Balance and Composure record, so I think people will end up liking this more than they thought they would based on the singles that were released. I thought it would be more of a grower but honestly I'm pretty into it after a couple listens.
