Bootleg schemes on eBay are fun.
There’s another seller who took a few easy-to-find $20 R.E.M. bootlegs from the 80s, ones with non-specific white labels, and just printed new covers, gave them a different made-up title, and set the price 5-6 times higher.

The album/song is great...but I’m still broke so I will be watching Discogs like a hawk for a copy under $15.

My initial thoughts, after reading about their Spotify royalty scheme album, are:
a) this is a publicity/prank/inside joke with their fans and whoever wins will just not pay

I’ve been pumping the breaks on vinyl purchases so “it’s one long song” and no preview is exactly what I need to curb my inner desire to drop $35 blind on this.

Mine is broken in half but I don’t collect vinyl for how it looks or plays. I collect vinyl to make a larger point about how everyone on this forum cares more about vinyl and sleeve condition than me and that they should be embarrassed by this.

Only neutral I ever got was someone who left the feedback “please cancel this order” an hour after he placed it. Lol.

The two target demos for Abbey Road are prone to losing/destroying copies around their messy bedroom and/or forgetting they own it on a yearly basis.

Bought the “In the Weeds” variant. Sucker for the sharp contrast between that deep green/teal and the grey cover.

Why are they charging only $40? Why stop there?

Keep in mind Tooth & Nail has to license all of their back catalog from Capitol. It's likely close to an additional $10/unit extra. 

I may be more curious than frustrated. I’d love it if there was an article or blog that broke down the economics of vinyl, production costs & retail prices, over the last few months.
Anecdotally, it feels like there has been a significant bump in prices, larger than I can remember over the last 6-7 years. I’ve seen more pre-orders go for $30+ and also more pre-orders that stagger prices to match the exclusivity of the variant. It feels like a combination of production costs going up and artists/labels being more savvy about acknowledging and combating the secondary market. But I obviously don’t know and there may not be an actual trend.
I’m also curious what happens if the USPS shuts down or gets privatized. I had a label owner tell me that if the USPS gets privatized and media mail goes away, indie labels are done. I don’t know if most musicians and label owners are prescient enough to bump their prices in anticipation of a huge roadblock like that happening. But these are the thoughts that swirl in my head when I see a $40 Juliana Theory and post a dumb comment about the price.
