Geez this thread has really put my collecting into perspective.
Long story short, I bought hundreds during the covid Era and was not listening to them much because I was in the middle of a move/organizing/sick(long covid 😥). And to top it all off, my brother packed all my records in uhaul boxes randomly unmarked. I'm in the 3,000 range.
I've been listening to my favorites mostly. But also my most newest purchases. I've got about 400 or so new records that haven't been touched because of said reasons above. But I plan on listening to everything and weeding out that which will not listen to. I acquired several collections over the years but never really looked them over. I peeked at a few of the boxes and wasn't too impressed. A lot of old stuff from 60s(big band kinda stuff) that's what's gonna be purged def! So I'll prolly get rid of about 1000 or so. Don't know how. That's big problem coz that stuff doesn't even sell in dollar bins. But I like the discogs a-z idea. Sounds fun. Anyways...I like collecting. New or old. I get a thrill when I realize that I have this record or that record.  Which in turn makes me wanna sift thru my collection and listen to them. I have a dedicated room for my records. It was a MUST when we purchased our new home. Now I have all the time in the world to listen to them. That is of course if the world doesn't end soon 😉

Very interesting topic that I'll bite on.
Started collecting in earnest around 2009 - 2010, was on dead format before here, which was a helpful community. VC is as well.
Anyway, around 1500+ in the collection, with a bulk buy or two in the wings for further sifting. Mostly crap I don't want much. Last year I gained the luxury of space, which is a big deal with records, as we all know. Was living in a NYC apartment and hadn't much more room for the collection. Family and I moved out of the apt and bought a house in another state, with a room I could have all the records in without an issue. Before the move last summer I stumbled across this article (https://blog.discogs.com/en/listen-to-your-record-collection-a-to-z/) on discogs about listening to your collection alphabetically from A-Z. I found it pretty intriguing and had planned on doing it when the year started. January 1 came around I was hesitant to start, but I finally did on 1/4 and it has been great so far.

For me doing this serves the purpose of five things:
    1. Further organizing and alphabetizing
    2. Editing out pieces I may no longer want
    3. Listing the above on discogs or elsewhere to sell
    4. Seeing what needs cleaning and new inner sleeves.
    5. Cracking open a few sealed pieces I've been sitting on for too long

When we were moving, as I was packing the records (not fun!!) I was able to organize and did much more cataloging on discogs, but even now I'm finding things I didn't know I had. I also work from home (until my NYC company says we have to be back in the office, then who knows), so am able to listen at least 6-7 hours a day, so hopefully by years end, I'll have finished. I do make exception for listening outside of the A-Z and jazz is one of the those, as well as new stuff I get, just to make sure the copy is okay, etc. But yeah, it's fun and a slog some days. Slog being when I get to LZ II that I have about twenty copies of or Bob Dylan, who I'm not the biggest fan of, but felt compelled to buy some here and there and now there are about thirty Dylan records to get through. If I desperately need to hear something, I'll resort to a CD or streaming, again outside of the A-Z. I'll check in late in the year and see if this was worth the effort.

Definitely need Year Of The Rabbit!!  It has been on the top of my list for a while alongside US pressings of both Juno (Seattle) albums.

At this point HIL has been selling out of all vinyl released so I wouldn't surprised if Unoriginal eventually drops SOTP.

I caught that too. I believe it said "lightly remastered" so I'm guessing that means they attempted to refrain from deviating too far from the engineering notes/perceived qualities on the initial pressing's mastering parameters.

I have an original of this and recently scored an original Effloresce. I don't recall anything particularly wrong with the mastering on my copy of EIP but its been a while since I've listened to it. Its a great album and checks pretty much all of my boxes for the type of music that it is but as an album, maybe its the sequencing, but I find it a bit less of a satisfying listen than Effloresce which for all of its greatness, isn't all that much different of an album compared to EIP. It feels overall a bit less busy than EIP but "busy" isn't necessarily a bad thing as I'm a pretty big TMV fan and it doesn't get much busier than that while still maintaining coherence. I guess Dillinger Escape Plan can come off much busier than either TMV or Oceansize at certain times. I also dig them but admittedly haven't spun anything by them in some time. Still, I know I have great fondness for EIP but I don't find myself going back to it that much. I played it excessively around early to mid-2008. Maybe I got my fill on replays but I still insist its part of "my music." I like Frames a lot but there is some sluggishness happening around the middle of that album that make it tough to get back into. I was super into it when it first released though. Now that I think about it both Frames and EIP were integral soundtracks to some very difficult and dark times of my life so maybe that accounts for why they are so difficult to revisit. Its only dawning on me right now that that could be the reason.

    Anyway, Oceansize, man. Great band.

Calling it now, UYHS and Jupiter (and maybe Beyond?) up this year/early next year and Antennae up for the 20th anniversary in March 2023 (yesterday was the 19th anniversary)

Relapse is already on their back catalog. Also, EVERYONE buy as much Cave In shit you can directly from Relapse so they feel it will be cost effective to get some lawyers working on the rights for Antenna.

Beggars is finally reissuing Oceansize's second LP, Everyone Into Position.  Outside of a MOV reissue, this has been out of print for a long time.
Preorders are live and should be shipping in June (so they say).  Not a bad price given the current pricing of 2xLPs.

Manchester rock band OCEANSIZE built a career and reputation of constructing sonic soundscapes from out of nowhere into the most monolithic, dynamic behemoths heard in aeons. The band formed in 1998 and released four albums before calling it a day in 2011. They gained favorable comparisons in the press to bands like Mogwai, Tool, Nirvana, Jane’s Addiction, My Bloody Valentine, Can, and Faith No More among others. Oceansize challenged themselves and thus by the same token ensured the listener doesn't become comfortable while listening. And let's face it, - comfortable is, after all, boring.

Everyone Into Position was Oceansize’s second studio album and saw the band scale new heights of grandiose with ethereal and utterly captivating music that is brooding, dark, spacey, empowering, sprawling and at times angelic. Beggars Arkive will be reissuing it on June 3rd. The double album will be pressed on splattered yellow vinyl.

Taking its title from the band's observations of how apathetic the world was becoming in 2005 and the pseudo-caring mentality that was sweeping the nation at that time, Everyone Into Position is an album that explores every emotion, sweeping the listener up in its beauty, its wholeness and musical greatness.

The album was recorded and produced by Dan Austin at The Works Studio in Stockport, UK and mixed at Sarm Studios, London, by Coldplay producer Danton Supple.

The Soundgarden-esque opener “The Charm Offensive” tells of an inner feeling of political corruptness. “Heaven Alive” - is packed with a new-found groove, and deals with drug taking and the verbal bullshit that transpires. But it's the final three songs on the album that are arguably some of Oceansize's most brilliant moments. Described by the singer Mike Vennart as the 'church suite' - listen to “Mine Host”, “You Can't Keep A Bad Man Down” and “Ornament / The Last Wrongs” collectively and you understand just what Mike means. From the simplicity of “Mine Host”, through to the crushing, middle finger to the world angst of “You Can't Keep..” through to the hymn-like closer, it's the ultimate climatic finale on any modern rock album.

“…good music is often difficult because it forces the listener to make connections rather than just giving everything away on the first listen. Such is the case with this release, and repeated listens yield rewards. What, on first listen, sound like sprawling and unwieldy compositions coalesce into beautifully-orchestrated chaos.”

Never got a shipping notice, but it did show up on Monday. Mine was brown with smoke, looks more like pee yellow with black streaks. Giving it a spin now. It does sound quite good and possibly the slightest bit compressed, but still stoked to have this on vinyl. Hard to sit and work at a computer with this playing!
