GradedOnACurve got a reaction from mdclanahan in Coronavirus COVID-19 Social Distancing Self-Quarantine Discussion Thread
For our incredibly fucked healthcare system, the US vaccination rollout is running the way it is because we "pre-ordered" and hoarded a bunch of viles in advance (before most other industrialized nations) and we're making it available to everyone we can ASAP so we could return to "business as usual." I mean its great but its main objective is to stem our economy from hemorrhaging the way it has for an extended period of time. It's a real mixed bag overall, but good for us I guess?
Other countries like Canada and the EU has given way more money to its citizens while they "figure it out" while we said here's 1 month's rent make it last a year.

GradedOnACurve reacted to AlexH. in PO NOW: MxPx - Box Set!
Boxes are the worst part of box sets, especially oversized ones with a big lid/flap. They certainly look cool and it's neat how to see a specific artist/album encapsulated in a nice package, but they're annoying to retrieve records from especially if you're listening to the whole thing. And be honest, you're not listening to the whole MxPx box set at once, unless you have really want your day to gradually get more mediocre over the course of 8 hours.

People who split up box sets are straight up chaotic evil.

GradedOnACurve reacted to rooks in Proper care of signed records
so, you need to put it in a safe IMMEDIATELY. Minimum of 6 inch thick stainless steel 316L gauge, submarine steel if you can find one made in that material. Inside the safe itself, place the signed record inside an airtight, vacuum sealed container. MAKE SURE no physical part of the album is touching ANYTHING else. Construct a room in your house which will be the main holding area - you'll need to construct some ramparts in case anyone comes by sea, and some trenches or a moat in case they come for it by land. The room should be at least 25x25 in dimensions - and be sure to spring for the most expensive HVAC system you possibly can - you have NO IDEA how much value your record will lose if even a DROP of humidity touches it. Once you've got the room built and kitted out with the latest and greatest in humidity and temperature control - dig a shaft a MINIMUM of 50 feet deep. You'll need to hire a contractor who can install steel reinforced sides on this shaft so you are not at an increased risk from someone trying to tunnel in and steal the record. Lower the safe, with the record inside, down the shaft slowly - resting on the bottom where it has been stabilized against tectonic movement, earthquakes, etc. Once the safe is safely (haha) at the bottom, you're going to want to fill in the shaft with concrete. Don't worry, the record is perfectly safe if you've followed the rest of this guide -- but this is THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP in making sure this record never sees the devilishly destructive UV rays of the sun or the horrific harm of humidity damage.
If you want to display it, make sure you take a picture (flash OFF!!!!!!!!!) before completing the above steps - then frame the picture.

P+P has been doing the same shit since 2009. Except then they actually did do cool packaging but it was always 5 months late along with other things. Glad bands have been pulling their catalogs from them.

Just wanted to take a minute to appreciate an old school like VC thread where its not just about a PO, (specific) repress, or some newjack asking why some horrible record hasn't been pressed/repressed.

I still cry that this was pressed. I thought there was zero chance I'd ever own a copy on vinyl. This album turns 20 this year. 20(!!)

GradedOnACurve got a reaction from N8TRU in PO: Rough Francis - Urgent Care
One of my favorite EPs of last year was pressed. On either yellow or black vinyl. No pressing info.
https://deathwishinc.com/collections/rough-francis/products/rough-francis-urgent-care
Rough Francis is a Vermont punk band founded by three brothers; Bobby, Julian and Urian Hackney. They started out as a tribute band to their father and uncle’s Proto-Punk band DEATH before anyone heard their music. Rough Francis was the nick-name of their uncle David who was the songwriter and visionary for the band DEATH. The Hackney family story quickly made its way in the spotlight and immediately blasted into orbit. After a few tribute shows, Rough Francis decided to create their own sound and channel influences from their progenitors and the hardcore scene they grew up in.
Urgent Care is the third official release by Rough Francis, it also marks their 10 year anniversary as a band. Urgent Care is a headfirst dive into their deep musical roots steeped in 80’s hardcore, 70’s Proto-Punk and a touch Mowtown. Recorded in 2 days by engineer and Converge guitarist, Kurt Ballou, this record pushed Rough Francis musically, and solidifies their place in the underground scene. Urgent Care, clocking in just over 25 minutes, takes you through the evolution of the band’s career. Lyrically, Bobby touches on experiences of growing up in Vermont as well as social and environmental issues that echo what’s happening today.
Track Listing:
01. Teen Zombies
02. Urgent Care
03. Giving Up
04. Waxed Curb
05. Tito’s Revenge
06. Deathwire
07. Crow
08. Microwaving

If it makes you feel better there’s a record I sent to France at the beginning of February that hasn’t arrived there either for whatever reason and I’m also in Brooklyn. It hasn’t toured the US like yours but I’m worried there’s a pattern shipping there right now.

GradedOnACurve got a reaction from Fowty Dollaz in Dischord color represses
Yeah they've been randomly pressing up some color which they have seen to do from time to time.
Not a repress, but strong recommend for Red Hare (Sean Brown from Swiz/Dag Nasty) as their first LP and subsequent 7" are still available on color.

Also math rock gold known as Faraquet have had a mixed color pressing up for a minute.

GradedOnACurve got a reaction from lexicondevil in Coronavirus COVID-19 Social Distancing Self-Quarantine Discussion Thread
So according to NYC Test + Trace, everyone a my school site is supposed to quarantine because we were exposed to a therapist who met with everyone and later tested positive. This is why my union had to fight harder to stay remote in the first place, to avoid shit like this. I got tested yesterday and expect negative results as my exposure was limited, and I wear a respirator mask and shield at work. Ridiculous that we opened back up in the first place.

Good news update. Accepted an offer for a full time remote position with a fast growing startup, formalized my exit of big corporate just a few minutes ago. Can't wait to be back in an agile organization.

Mostly as to why the only original member by 2017. I honestly think Quiet Slang was a pet project and ego stoking.
