VC Secret Santa (version 5.0) Final Update 02/07/2013

Recommended Posts

I like music, that like Mike, most folks around here aren't that into, so I won't attempt to ask for anything music related unless I get tagged with one of the half a dozen people on these boards who likes psych, shoegaze, indie pop, drone or garage rock (I think it'd be hilarious if I get teamed up with Jared though, since he's moving in with us in less than two weeks).

Aside from that, I like all things horror up until the late 80's - seriously, slasher films of all kinds, Italian giallo, 50's and 60's kitsch and trash, foreign oddball, and zombies/ghouls of ANY kind whatsoever. I already own all things Romero, Fulci, Argento, etc as well as most of the good films that were in franchises such as Friday, Nightmare, Halloween and so on. If you go horror, go as crazy as you possibly can (though please, please, please avoid modern stuff - the Eli Roth school of torture porn is a complete waste of time).

I also love comics - DC for the mainstream and any and all indie. I love zines on almost any subject, same with books - though again, written stuff around horror and macabre get special attention! :)

I'd say to just go nuts - I like tons of stuff, and aside from all that, I'm more concerned with making sure whoever I get tagged with gets an awesome package that goes above what I did last year where it was a couple of LP's and some 7"s.

May as well start posting the "about me...shit I like" posts...(Copied from last year's since nothing has changed much)

I'm a sucker for all things Deathwish Inc., Hydra Head (RIP), and Initial Records (RIP). Three of my favorite labels.

Big fan of hardcore and metal...but mostly the 90's midwest stuff...especially from Louisville, KY. Also really into 90's indie/shoegaze/Brit-pop stuff.

Favorite bands: NINE INCH NAILS, Converge, Shai Hulud, Minus the Bear, Endpoint, Melvins, 27, Coheed and Cambria, ISIS (and anything Aaron Turner-related), Mamiffer. Just to name a few.

I have an unhealthy obsession with Taylor Swift and Christina Aguilera.

I love art and concert prints (yes, even to shows I didn't attend)...some favorite artists are Aaron Horkey, J. Bannon, Florian Bertmer, Tyler Stout, Tom Whalen, and Frank Kozik.

Books: I tend to be all over the place but I rather like music and band-related biographies and the like.

Star Wars, The ALIEN movies, Anime, and horror movies are a constant. A few favorite TV shows: LOST, Firefly, The Green Hornet (yes, the 60's show), Dexter, Walking Dead, Fringe.

T-shirt size: XL

See my trade list to get an idea of favorite bands. If anything, there are a few VCers who know me well, can always ask them

I’m pretty new still so my tradelist doesn’t totally reflect my interests. I have been really into blues lately. ‘dark was the night - cold was the ground’ by blind willie is probably my favorite blues song. I also like pop punk, hardcore, shoegaze, post rock, and skate punk. This will destroy you and carissa’s wierd have been getting a lot of airtime recently.

movies - princess bride, stand by me, the mighty ducks.

tv - I don’t really know anymore... I’ve been watching freaks and geeks/the league/parks and rec on netflix when I have time. I relate to a lot of ron swanson’s ideas about life. And Louie, I love louis c.k.

books - I read a lot of poetry and occasionally write, but I like a very specific type... basically anything bukowski. I’m open to other things but I just don’t relate to poetry about meadows and sunshine.

I’m a graphic designer for an ad agency. I eventually want to start screen printing. I can’t cook, but am learning. I like to drink. I like patches. I longboard when I have free time.

General: My name is Cliff and I live in Philadelphia with my fiancee and two cats. Despite living in a city, I am a run of the mill suburban white guy with German heritage, but am Puerto Rican by association since I spent way too much time with my future in laws haha. I am a network engineer with a degree in computer engineering and mathematics. I somehow wound up working in IT, but like playing with numbers / statistics and building things like I used to at school a year ago (like building and programming a CPU). I am originally from NJ and I often miss my stomping grounds in Ocean County, Asbury Park and Newark. That also happens to be where all of my friends live since I don't really know or get along with many people in Philadelphia. I like Chinese food, good beer, know kung fu, like to exercise and enjoy curvy pinups/girls with tattoos. I hope to have enough money in the future to open a punk cafe / record shop with a small stage for events.

Music: I have a broad taste but I am very partial to punk/ska/hardcore. You can get a pretty good idea from my tradelist or my last.fm: http://www.last.fm/user/randomfortune/ . Refused, Dead to Me, The Bouncing Souls, MIllencolin,..too many favorites to list.

Movies / TV: I enjoy TV and movies, but never really get around to watching too many. A Clockwork Orange is one of my favorites. Martial Arts movies like 3 Deadly Venoms and Bruce Lee classics. I like dumb comedies with Jim Carey, things like Austin Powers, Kung Pow and Rush Hour, etc. However, with that said I can't stand anything with Anna Faris and don't think Will Ferrell movies are all that great. TV wise I love the Simpsons, South Park, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Whitest Kids U Know, all those Pawn, Picking and Storage shows, and my current addiction (and obsession) is Trailer Park Boys. I have seen all seasons and am finally getting around the movies.

Sports: I like Philly teams, but I love the Philadelphia 76ers. In a city that doesn't really support their basketball team, I am always showing my support with pride. Andrew Bynum or not.

Hey homies:

Adam here. I live in Woodstock Ontario, Canada, about 1/2 way (give or take) between Detroit and Toronto. I work at a bank head office, but it's not as stuffy as you'd imagine.

I'm big into music (obviously), with some of my favourite bands being Hot Water Music, Foo Fighers, Lucero, Grade, Lagwagon, etc (see my tradelist). I've finally started to get into some new bands, which is great. I like anything with gruff sounding vocals. I'm heading to Fest for the first time this year, and can't wait!

I don't really watch much TV, apart from The Food Network, although I've been into that Vegas show and really dig American Horror Story (stoked on the new season)

I'm into horror movies, from the classics like Frankenstein and The Mummy to new stuff I haven't seen or heard of. Enlighten me!

I'm a Yankees fan and that's really the only sports I watch.

My wife and I are big into animal rescue. We have 2 rescue dogs, and we foster for a locel organization (www.arfontario.com). Out next foster arrives on Oct 22nd. His name is Benny and he just recently had his leg amputated. After him, we might have 3 rescue dogs ;) We also have 2 rescue cats, and a turtle I've had for 23 years.

I love to cook, and have just recently started to cut out meat and dairy. Any new recipes are always welcome! I also really love craft beer, expecially anything super hoppy.

I have a hamburger tattoo, and love all things hamburgers. I have a shelf at home dedicated to hamburger merch (hamburger phone, salt and pepper shakers, etc)

Hope this helps!

sup foos! alright, here we go.

Music: it's all over the place, to be quite honest. Favorite bands include Thrice, Deftones, Converge, Fucked Up, Descendents, Thursday, MxPx, Against Me!, Ceremony, Explosions In The Sky, just to give you a few examples. You can check out my tradelist for a few more bands I'm into. I also really like movie soundtracks quite a bit.

Movies/TV: mainly horror flicks, but also really love films that mindfuck the shit out of you. I like a good action film every now and then as well. I LOVE Seinfeld. I'm missing season 9 of the series (hint hint). Also like The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Dexter, Six Feet Under, E.R., Southland, Fringe, Parks and Rec, The Simpsons.

I watch all kinds of sports but the only team I wear merch from are the Red Sox.

I like patches, stickers and buttons of all kinds of things.

Comics I read: The Walking Dead, Lil' Depressed Boy, The Secret Service, Kick Ass / Hit Girl, Batman (even though this reboot thing blows), and Crossed. I'm also a fan of books but it's been a while since I've read one that really sucked me in.

Hope this helps, Secret Santa!

Music: Like lots of stuff except for country and rap. Favorite bands would be: Turnover, Mixtapes, Spraynard, Have Heart, Code Orange Kids, Blink-182, Citizen, The Chariot, Such Gold, You Blew It!, Hold Tight!, also I love finding good bands from Virginia. Just love good stuuff from my home state. Trade list has a good representation of the rest of what I enjoy.

Movies/TV: Not huge into movies but when it comes to TV: Archer(Greatest show), Workaholics, Breaking Bad, The Office, Psych, Parks and Rec, The Walking Dead, Tosh.0.

When it comes to sports I mainly focus on Baseball. Nationals and Orioles are my teams. Not huge into football but I support the Redskins.

Stickers, Pins and Prints are always cool. alway looking for new ones.

Besides records, Ive really gotten into Cassettes recently, something about them that I just find really cool. Still looking for Spraynard and Code Orange Kids demo cassette.

Also Im into anything to do with cats. Love cats and anything cat themed. Thinking about starting a collection of records that feature cats on the cover.

So stoked to participate in this. Hope this helps!

My turn my turn! As the avatar states, I'm Ronnie. I like all things literature: poetry, prose, novels, short stories.

As far as music goes, its pretty vast. I predominately listen to sad bastard music: Red House Painters, Horse Feathers, Gregory Alan Isakov, etc; but I also love that Americana that's oh so popular at the moment: Gaslight, Lucero, etc, 90s era Epitaph and Fat and early 90s emo stuffs.

I collect blu rays, mostly horror, but I do have a soft spot for action films. I am a creepy cat guy. I love good art and things related to tattoo culture. Oh, and if anyone in Chicago gets me, feel free to send me Portillos.

I'm a huge Springsteen fan, J Church is one of my favorite bands, but my taste is super eclectic, it's not uncommon for me to go from listening to the Promise Ring to Manowar to Bad Religion to Electric Light Orchestra to Tom Waits to the Specials to Pearl Jam to Sam Cooke to Kungfu Rick, and on and on....

...I'd rather get something thoughtful like an obscure bands 7" or LP that you have a story to tell about that, than anything fancy or expensive...obviously it's nice when it's appealing or it's a record that I don't have though.

I always try to look at the other persons record collection and look for records that mean a lot to me and then write a story to the person on why I think that record is important for them to own. I'm sure that's borderline pretentious as hell, but that's usually my method.

please don't buy me t shirts I have WAY too many shirts in my house that eventually are going to be cut down and maybe if I get super ambitious one day, become a quilt.

Movies/TV: huge John Cusack fan, I like dumb comedys, action flicks (especially of the spy - mercenary type) & documentaries. I'm a huge Alton Brown/Good Eats fan too.

I have no pets

here's a more up to date collection lists folder(includes a somewhat up to date DVD list):

My turn after Ronnie:

Im Matt and I love belt buckles, the more the merrier.

music wise: my favorite band is H2O and am missing the Still the Same Fellas EP and Everready 7" to complete my collection. I am a huge country/bluegrass/folk fan (Townes Van Zandt, Waylon, Merle, Hank Williams Senior, JR, and III, Shooter Jennings, Justin Townes Earle, Lydia Loveless, Brett Detar, Nick 13 American Aquarium, etc etc). I think the most recent punk/hardcore band I have heard and enjoyed was Have Heart, so most of the typical stuff talked on here music wise I am not a big fan of. I love the original 90s wave of emo (Mineral, JFFB, Saetia, You and I) and up to the early 2000's.

I love baseball and am a huge phillies fan. Anything Phillies will pretty much excite me.

I love reading and books from classics to current memoirs. I dont care for the beat writers of the 60s and the Vonneguts of the world, but everything else is great. Horror, Sci Fi (named my son Ender after the book) true crime, short stories (Carver is amazing), biographies, and just general fiction as well.

I hope Madie and Dashhax get each other.

I keep waiting for January 1st and she tells us all that he went to Chicago strictly to meet her since she posted what she was doing for New Years. You can almost see her waking up next to him and being thankful that she doesnt remember the night.

Ok, the requisite 'about me' post. My name's Mike, and you can find a decent cross-section of musical tastes in my tradelist. I dig that late 90s Jets to Brazilish rock sound, old-timey rockabilly mountain twang music, and post-rock no-vox tunes. I've also started picking up a few art prints here and there. His stuff is obviously out of the SS price range, but I thoroughly enjoy Dan McCarthy's work (http://www.danmccart...prints.new.html). Art with that similar dark/low-light, celestial sort of feel would be amazing. I fly people around the universe for a living, so general astro-space sort of stuff is also cool. I prefer my books non-fictional and historical, my movies funny, and my coffee black.

Just sent in my PM. Kinda stayed away from this kinda thing the last few years, but it sounds fun.

My name is Nicholas and I live near Chicago. My favorite bands/artists top 8 artists on last.fm are currently: Pedro The Lion, Smashing Pumpkins, Ellie Goulding, Phoenix, The Dead Weather, The Beatles, and The Rapture, though you can get a good idea what I'm into by checking out my list.

My interests include Batman, Third Man Records, Cats, and (of course) Vinyl.

Lookin forward to this.
