DJ Quik
but horror soundtracks are the best. and oblivion and raid are the weakest so far imo :S That said, I enjoy them all and will buy anything that comes out I thought oblivion was great, Raid just never had an exciting score to begin with so I don't know why they chose it at all
SeeMoreGlass
Indeed. Its a shame the film sucked ass. Has anyone here bought the Joseph Bishara soundtracks from http://shop.voidrecordings.com/ Insidious, 11-11-11 or Dark Skies? If so, any good? I bought the Insidious one and it is incredible...thick vinyl, awesome package...the only problem is I can't listen to it because it freaks me out... The first time I listened to it was around 11 at night and I about pissed my pants where all the strings come in at the title sequence...haha Hopefully they press The Conjuring...I would definitely buy that... jipc
Number11
We already have three labels that specialise in horror soundtracks. I agree that Mondo should definitely branch out more. There's a ton of great soundtracks for Mondo to press that are unlikely to be released by Death Waltz/Waxwork Records/ One Way Static. slinch
I don't see the appeal of horror soundtracks. I find them fun, as a novelty, but they rarely make it to my "now listening" queue. Out of all the stuff Mondo has pressed, the Drive and Oblivion OST's are miles ahead for me personally (note that I haven't listened to the Ghibli ost apart from a couple of songs). Agree with both, horror soundtracks are already covered, extensively, I mean we had mondo and death waltz both release a Maniac vinyl lol

Drive and Oblivion are my 2 current favorites as well. Maniac (remake) and Raid are probably the next 2 in my top 4. Havent heard Ghibli. What does Ghibli sound like? Electronic music? rooks
Be honest, how often do you listen to the Drive soundtrack past side A? I mean, admittedly, I have, but the minimal sub-bass ambient sounds are nice for background pulse on a chill night but you can't really get absorbed listening to side BCD of Drive. Still, of the Mondo I own thus far, 1. Poltergeist 2. Maniac 3. Drive would be my rankings. Regardless, you're right we've got Waxwork and DW as backups for horror stuff. But, I'm more intrigued by how important a score is to a horror movie, and how that plays out as a standalone. I prefer Carpenter or other horror-staple scores to OSTs by guys like Zimmer where it's all dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun BRAAAAAAAHM. But maybe that's just me. turbobrando

I had been listening to Drive digitally for a long time before Mondo even came out with their vinyl release, so really there weren't any surprises to be had. I thought it was great then and Mondo just packaged it up nicely with a couple Stouts I think this OST is also just as important to this movie as say the horror movie point you're trying to make. Then again I'm a huge Drive fluffer so my opinion is biased but I firmly believe that this OST played a huge huge role in this movie's overall success. rooks

Point I'm trying to make is if I want huge cinematics I will listen to Explosions in the Sky or Mogwai or Mono. Not Zimmer or whomever else. That's probably just me though - I think horror OSTs have a cool aesthetic that's not really captured in other genres.
cbbrew22
I reeeeally want Mondo to do a rerelease of the Jurassic Park score that was rumored a while back for comic con. Every time I see this thread bumped I just cross my fingers that it's an announcement for that. Doubt it will happen - but I would love to get my hands on that record for less than eBay prices and even more so would love a Mondo release of it because their releases are all so well done. museummouth
I'll be mad pissed if they put up another vinyl before shipping the Ghibli.
timbrh2001
I'll be mad pissed if they put up another vinyl before shipping the Ghibli. They're still pressing the Ghibli vinyl. I think if they just said the word "preorder" in their description, people would be less upset. Hopefully they realize this moving forward. I believe their stated goal is 1 release per month so I'd guess another will show up before the Ghibli's ship out.
rooks
I'd definitely be less upset. But I'd still be like, "why you do that Mondo?". It's not like they need the funds up front. They know it will sell out. a 3 month pre-order is some amateur hour nonsense.

Pressing plants are always backed up with orders, maybe they didn't anticipate a delay happening or something? Usually they're pretty quick (a lot quicker than prints) at getting out their vinyl, so I think at least for this time, I can give them a "pass". Rip
The Raid and Maniac (remake) are probably my favorite ones so far. Followed by Oblivion, Drive, and so on. I really need to give all the other ones more listens because it's been a while since I've listened to them.

Shelby
I prefer the orchestral releases they've put out. Poltergeist and Oblivion > All. I was disappointed that no one else was disappointed with the Maniac packaging, especially after Deadly Spawn and all the 2xLP releases.
