You're one of the few people that I actually believe "FOUND" rare records and tests, because all of the pics of your digs have a massive mess of shit everywhere including random stuffed animals and x box games  :D

congrats on the new space.

Funny, I have the exact opposite sentiment. Coming from a guy who makes 24 tests to sell in his store and then finds another? how do you misplace a test press? and this is all for profit, not charity like when you sell the 5 extra tests you have

Shouldn't this be in the sale forum?

yes

Sweet ETR found some stuff and put it up on eBay so we can all have an outrageuos eBay bidding war and end up with high prices for out of print stuff...wait wasn't that what I would have already had to have done to get these pressings...

I wish this stuff was just put in the store at a set cost first come first serve kind of things (like a real garage sale...and not an auction). Instead of trying to get top dollar by auction. I love ETR and the releases Ross has put out but I'm not a fan of when labels do this. For charity I totally understand, but just to rack up a lot of money rubs me the wrong way. It's like I'm trying to be sold on a deal and ultimately I'm just having to pay the same OOP price I would have already had to pay. At least Ross would get the cash to hopefully improve his business. I'd be more likely to support this though because it is helping the label. I will say an auction is not a garage sale so the title of the thread is kind of misleading. First world complaints...I guess :). Try not to be to harsh on me for my criticism. I do like Enjoy The Ride a lot and have bought quite a few releases.

far from a "garage" sale.

If the point of test presses is to make sure the pressing is good, why would one be unplayed?

Because some people have "tests" made so they can sell them later.

I hear what y'all are saying and I can personally vouch for a few here.

1. Ross is a great guy and certainly puts out a lot of quality releases, but I've seen his office he's far from being what I would call "organized". the current etr space is shared (hence the need to move) and a chunk of inventory sits in a dodge closet in a garage (hence "garage sale"). I was helping him clean up and we found several mostly-empty boxes containing rare stuff that, upon opening, he was like "holy crap, I had no idea these were here". So yes, he really is super unorganized and forgetful and randomly found cool stuff.

2. Test presses. 24 might have been made of a particular record, but that does not at all mean that Ross had all 24 of them. remember, his releases aren't really "his releases"...they're mostly all licensed, which means the other labels, band members, other people who worked on it, etc. get tests also, for joint approvals sake or as a courtesy.

3. The company is moving offices which means a huge investment in both time and money. Every penny earned via these auctions is going to help facilitate this very necessary company upgrade, so that he can keep putting out sweet releases and not have to do so in a shared space not much bigger than a closet. The money is going towards the company and not into his pocket by any means. And it's not like he's listing everything at ridiculous prices, he's starting everything at a dollar, just to unload unexpected inventory and hopefully minimize out of pocket (his own pocket) moving costs, knowing full well that many of these items could, in fact, sell for less than face value.

Because it's not the only one? With 25 of those floating around I'm sure atleast one got lost in translation.

@soundboard

I actually used to think the same way, but then I realized were not in communist Russia. Ross was ultimately the one who made these releases happen, doesn't it make sense for him OF ALL PEOPLE to sell for whatever the market rules?

And before anyone comes at me with that no idea "price" argument, again we don't live in communist russia. An "across the board" price for all records is assinine from a business perspective.

Communist Russia? What are you talking about an auction is an auction a garage sale is a garage sale. They are different things. If he wants to go for the cash grab he can do whatever he wants. I just don't like it personally. I would rather it be done like a real garage sale. I didn't know in America we couldn't have opinions (although it is true garage sales are not auctions - that is a fact). Also an across the board price is what the standard pressed version of these records originally had (excluding the test - they did not have a retail price I'm aware of). I'm fine with auctions. Lets just call an auction an auction if that is what it is. Also your use of asinine reminds me of Hank Hill.

OKAY. Just illustrating an *opinion*, taking the argument to the extreme was inevitably going to happen so there's that. Never said yours was invalid. If your going to get bent out of shape over semantics, and further with the auction, that's on you. I'm just saying it'd be stupid for him to what you origanally wanted him to do if he wanted to make money.

I don't listen to any of this stuff listed but I was hoping to see a Porno for Pyros test. Plan on selling any?

The plant made a mistake on that release and only made 4 but we did have 24 jackets made so I am going to auction off my last sealed copy of each variant along with a test pressing jacket since I have nothing else to do with them

I edited my original response slightly while you were responding*

I've already changed the pic to Hank Hill. It's way cooler than Communism! You can make a lot of money at garage sales you just can't run up a bid like an auction. When you talk about semantics and going to the extreme just remember you're the person that compared an opinion of this "garage" sale to Communism. If that isn't going to the extreme I don't know what is.

I'm also not going to talk about this anymore with you. Do what you want. Have your own opinion fine with me. I'm not going to be in the business of polluting this thread anymore for the sake of anyone who wants to keep up with these auctions. One more King Of The Hill picture to end this conversation on.

I kind of quit paying attention after his first couple releases, but I know more than a few of his releases the bands were not on board with the project - they never got that "courtesy" - and probably never got test presses. Again, if the purpose of test presses is to listen to the pressing for errors, why would 24 be needed? 5 band members + ross + say 2 people at another label + 2 other people that worked on it = 10. That's still 14 made for the purpose of selling.

Some labels make extra test presses as promotional tools, not just for quality control purposes.

The people complaining about this and acting like they know how many tests should be made and who gets them are people that have no idea how a label works/runs.

People bitch and moan for the sake of bitching and moaning. I feel sorry for those kinds of people and lately it seems line 75% of the boards are filled with these kinds of people

they all initially came with seam splits too. luckily patrick screened some blank sleeves as replacements.

I have a pair of the replacement sleeves. Was a little bummed out just because I love the EPs and wanted the actual artwork. But luckily a few years later, I got the /100 variants so, problem solved.
