sirrichardrichard
Depends what you are looking for.... Sparse, go with Nebraska Rock, Born to Run A good mix could be Darkness on the Edge of Town or the River.

Dusted_By_Space
Nebraska, but a good place to start is the live box.
idreamofpunk
Born To Run is the easy answer. It is a perfect album. Jesus, I could live inside the saxophone solo for Jungleland. The River or Nebraska would be close seconds.

seangj
Basically what everyone else has already said, but Nebraska = 1, Greetings From Asbury Park = 2, Born To Run =

ronniegwilliams
Man, Tunnel of Love doesn't get the proper respect it deserves, such a great record
chiefwahoo
Nebraska, but a good place to start is the live box. I agree that the box set (Live 1975-1985) would be the best thing to buy if they're as cheap and plentiful in Canada as they are in the US. But my favorite is probably The River trevorm, I can mail you a few of his classic LPs for free if you want to pay the shipping to Canada. I don't know if you have a local source for them cheaper already, though.
chiefwahoo
Man, Tunnel of Love doesn't get the proper respect it deserves, such a great record Not sure it has much of a place in this thread but I love it. I think it's the last great album he made.
Dusted_By_Space
Man, Tunnel of Love doesn't get the proper respect it deserves, such a great record This, TOL is one of my earliest music memories, my old man got it in the mail from columbia house and let me open the package. I thought it was my old man on the cover because they looked somewhat the same and i was like 5 or 6 at the time. Great great record. AlexH.
You'll want to be getting everything through Tunnel of Love, as they are all pretty much essential. If you have to get only one (dumb), go with Darkness on the Edge of Town or Born to Run. And a note to all: if you own even a single boring acoustic-guy solo album from some old ex-punker in his 40s (or worse, any Frank Turner record) but you don't own Nebraska, you are a huge poseur. shamrocks
Darkness is a top 20 all time album for me, after that its probably Nebraska, the river, born to run followed by the rising and tunnel of love
radiatorhums
I'm going to agree with the Nebraska, Born to Run and Darkness suggestions. I'd recommend them in that order as well. I thought The Promise (Darkness on the Edge of Town outtakes and leftovers) was excellent as well, but apparently that's out of print now and goes for a pretty penny.
