Their records sound great. IDGAF about the rest.

But $125 is too much for them though.

Plarocks reacted to Subdomestic in PSA - Discogs Hacking and Scam
Hey folks, I wanted to raise some awareness about a Discogs scam that almost got me.

Earlier this week I was about to buy the Bad Religion box set from a seller on Discogs who looked legit. Almost 300 items sold, high percentage of positive feedback, and appeared to be located in the UK. Price was below average but not so amazing that it was too good to believe. Figured the guy was just looking for a quick sale.

DM'd the guy with a few questions about condition and shipping and he got back to me quickly.  In hindsight, I should have asked for pictures too.

Anyway, I put my order through and go to pay.  I get an error. I try again and again over the course of an hour then I get a message from the seller saying "hey, is something wrong with the order?". I told him I was having issues with the Discogs payment at checkout and he gives me an email address to send payment direct via PayPal.

Not proud of myself but I almost did it. I actually tried to send the payment through but thank fuck it was flagged by PayPal security as a high dollar value international transfer and didn't go through. I go into PayPal's support chat to figure out what's up. Meanwhile I keep getting messages from the Discogs guy asking where the payment is.

PayPal confirmed that they flagged the transfer and asked me to confirm I wanted to send the money.  At the time I said yes and they said I was now clear to send at my discretion. This is when it dawned on me that there was no option to send the money Goods and Services - only Friends and Family. Red flag goes up and I messaged the Discogs dude that I am not going to send almost $900 CAD as Friends and Family - we need to figure something else out.

I wake up the next morning and my order is cancelled. Discogs guy is no longer responding to my messages.

At first I'm bummed that I missed a good deal and I'm mad that the Discogs checkout screwed me over. Then I think about it a little more and start Googling the same type of scenario.

I'm pretty sure it's this scam:
    https://www.discogs.com/forum/thread/951380?page=1&message_id=9630935

People's accounts are being hacked, items are posted for sale, their payment settings deliberately disabled, and then the scammer messages for a Friends and Family PayPal transfer. The other reason I think this is what happened to me is because PayPal customer support told me the guy's name tied to the PayPal account. I googled it afterwards and it's a Ukrainian name.

So now I think I dodged an expensive bullet but wanted to share my near miss with others.

Be smart about paying for stuff and maybe change your Discogs password. Stay safe out there.

Not if you are trying to stretch it out over as many discs as possible to sell 1 album for 200 bucks

The ads have become more and more intrusive as time has gone on.  It used to be one little banner snuck in near the top of the page.  Then eventually 2.  At some point I noticed that there’s one that loads – very “conveniently” – near the very top of the browser on mobile, after you expand your notifications.  Super easy to accidentally tap that one if you’re in a hurry or not paying attention.  I tolerated all of these for a while because I absolutely do not support SRC or whoever VC is in bed with, these days, and I’m sure there’s costs for keeping the lights on.
But a couple of months ago, the ads seemed to really ramp up in size and aggression.  The worst was the heinous, oversized blocks that would appear between paragraphs in longer posts.  But the tipping point, for me, was a completely vertical poster for… I think it was Alaskan flights / travel?  It took up the entirety of the screen on mobile.  I could see the forum’s color scheme peeking out from behind the edges of the ad, but had to scroll the total length of my phone’s display just to see the first thread, or reply, or whatever content I was trying to read.
    That’s when enough became enough.
I went into the App Store and grabbed a couple of blockers for my phone.  Desktop has always been ad-free for me, but a lot of my browsing is on mobile, and I’m not going to compromise when ads are that excessive and obnoxious.  Haven’t looked back and can’t imagine trying to browse this site without some sort of blockers, going forward.
Moral of the story: if you’re going to spam ads for revenue, know your limits.  Ya’ll could’ve had me with a few modest banners here and there but ya’ blew it.

I found the TV Greatest Hits release yesterday at some shop. It was the only thing on my wantlist but I didn't buy it. The $35 price tag had me realizing I don't need to buy everything

The show was so amazing! I noticed at Riot and Furnace Fests last year, that Thrice and The Get Up Kids are still playing lots of new stuff live. And I get it, they're still putting out records, but c'mon. You know damn well why we're all at a Vagrant showcase, and it's not to hear the new songs.

Yeah but then you can’t feel the sense of faux accomplishment when you see the spine of it peeking out at you from the shelf, knowing that you (kinda’) now own the complete discography which makes you a real fan.

I always liked them, and have wanted that album on vinyl for decades.

Their 2009 vinyl release of In the Black trades for over $100+ as well.

some guy admitted to me he is just buying and flipping and i said people dont like that and he said he was a hero because hes buying records and selling them to fans that want them, that couldnt get them, and now because of him the fans who missed out can now buy them.

Anyone nab an extra Taylor Swift?

I had the last one in the store in my hands but ended up giving it to this girl who was inconsolably in tears when the shop owner told her they were all gone. I overheard the conversation & just broke my heart. The girl is the same age as my niece & reminded me immensely of her. It was obvious she’s more hardcore Swiftie than I & not a flipper. She started crying even more when I gave her the 7”.
