GHOSTDRONES
That's a pretty significant push. Script re-writes to diminish new characters while enhancing their focus on Rey, Finn, and Poe.
himynameisShane
That's a pretty significant push. 7 months. I'd be willing to bet the main reason it was pushed was because of the success during Christmas for Episode VII clerk3745
Breezus
I don't mind this. May felt a bit rushed anyway, especially with Rogue One out at the end of the year. A new Star Wars film every December sounds more reasonable to me. stl_ben and clerk3745

stl_ben
Was really surprised they weren't aiming for Dec 2017 to start with
psus2h
That gives us all more time to parade around LA to try to get small parts in the film right ?
DecayToDeath
Avatar 2 got delayed--it was going to open in Dec. 2017. There's no way that's a coincidence.
himynameisShane
Avatar 2 got delayed--it was going to open in Dec. 2017. There's no way that's a coincidence. Not at all. Think that was one of the reasons they didn't originally intend to release Episode VIII in December
konk
That makes more sense, but I don't know how gazillionaires think.
himynameisShane
That makes more sense, but I don't know how gazillionaires think. Putting 2 giant movies (in this case Avatar/Star Wars) for release around the same time means less money for one or both films then what could happen if they had didn't have the competition. Before Force Awakens came out, I'd imagine Disney didn't have a very good how well Star Wars could perform against an Avatar sequel, so they opted to release it in May instead. After seeing the success of Force Awakens (in December) the move to December makes sense from every angle for them. I'd imagine those behind Avatar are thinking the same way and would rather not have the competition. Thats how I see it at least
psus2h
I thought Avatar was ok. I don't get the hype over a sequel.

stl_ben
Plot had been done a thousand time, but the effects were amazing. Best movie I have ever seen in 3D. And the hype about the sequel...well it was/is the highest grossing movie of all time. so $$$$

dvv
yea definitely would give my money to a Star Wars sequal than an avatar sequal
daegor
Subjected to both as a child. Then you've seen Avatar. They seriously rip entire scenes off of Fern Gully.
thebiglebowski
Funny to be talking about the Avatar being unoriginal in the thread for the Force Awakens.

slinch
Well, you know (especially relevant to the conversation from 7:30 on) That's why it's important to not let the story be the main character, but the characters themselves. Between Avatar and Force Awakens only one managed to really do that.
psus2h
Has anyone read any of the new canon stuff ? The reviews are so extreme both ways. People either love or hate. Especially Aftermath.
