Sonic Youth Geffen Era Reissues!

Recommended Posts

I found listings for Sonic Youths Geffen Albums from Goo all the way up until Sonic Nurse on Amazon. The prices were crazy ($60 Canadian each) but I think they were place holders. Music direct has the single LP albums for $19.99 and the doubles for $24.99

I ended up finding this article on Modern Vinyl. http://modern-vinyl.com/2015/09/27/slew-of-sonic-youth-reissues-reportedly-incoming/

Music Direct doesn't have the pre-order for NYC Ghosts and Flowers or Murray St yet but I think those are coming in February while the other ones are coming out in November and December.  I'm so excited to finally own Washing Machine, Experimental Jet Set, and NYC Ghosts at reasonable prices!

I'm very excited to pick up Washing Machine!  I don't know if I've ever seen a cheap second hand copy.

I've heard of this band but can't check them out right now because I'm in class. What genre is it?

I'm shit at describing bands, but I'd go with 'guitar heavy indie rock with tendencies to get very noisy and experimental'.

In my opinion---top ten SY records

1. Daydream Nation

2. Sister

3. EVOL

4. Goo

5. Dirty

6. Murray Street

7. Bad Moon Rising

8. S/T

9. Washing Machine

10. A Thousand Leaves

I love this band. It's also the one that I've seen the most---sixteen or seventeen times---every tour since Sister, multiple times on Goo and a few odd one off shows like a Johnny Ramone benefit, opening for the Stooges and This is Not a Festival. Also caught their last American show. Sorry, I'm rambling.

For those unfamiliar with the band, I would start with Dirty or Goo. I think those are good entry points.

Sounds cool, which album should I listen to first?

Dirty / Goo / Daydream Nation would be a good three to start with if you don't feel like wading through too much of their rather large catalogue.  If you have the time, I'd suggest starting with Bad Moon Rising or Evol and work chronologically from there.

Have all of the original pressings except NYCGF. Their only truly bad record in my opinion.

I can't get into that one at all either.  I saw it for a decent price at a record swap last year and still passed.  I might pick it up just to complete my studio album collection, but I'm not really sure if I'd listen to it much.  Should probably just spent the $20 on something else :)
