Daniel Dopp
I just feel like the 12" single looks and sounds better than a traditional 7". I think it's probably me being anal about how my record storage area looks, but I love the idea of a 12" single with a full page insert. Just curious what others opinions were. almightyseancore
i've always preferred 7"s for the single format. also for EPs, unless they are too long and need to be 12".
gutzonborglum
Personally, I'd rather have a single on a 7". It just seems really anticlimactic with a 12" single.

museummouth
7" 12" is just a waste of space
dedlee
45RPM 7" is the purest format for a pop song
abovetheearth
7" I love 7's More intimate for singles. If that makes sense.
harryq
I feel like the pressing quality on most of my 7"s is worse than my 12"s, so I generally hate when anything is on a 7"... I also hate the lack of a spine and how 7"s typically open on the top instead of the side. I'd rather pay $9 for a one-sided 12" than ~$5 for a two-sided 7"
Guest
12" singles at 45rpm...you know, because it SOUNDS BETTER. I still love 7"s all day every day, but you can't argue with physics.

daegor
Singles should inheriantly be 45rpm and a GOOD pressing, so whatever the cheapest is under those parameters chutterhanban
mindovermatter
Do people actually have a beef with having a 7" open at the top versus the side? What happens if you want a 12" and the opening is at the top? Do you just throw it in the trash? So many questions! drds89

thomasj182
But they don't make frames for 7's!!! How am I suppose to hang them? For me, it depends on the band, generally a heavy weight 7 cut at 45 is awesome! Off the top of my head, the Franz Nicolay/Frank Turner split from Asbestos Records is a perfect example! It's a heavier 7 cut at 45 rpm's, I generally find (at least on the 12 inch singles I own) labels use a very light weight 12 for a single. I cannot stand a flimsy record, whether it's a whole album (i.e. Hybrid Theory RSD repress) or a single.
seangj
I like 7's but if the songs are too long 12's are fine.
Daniel Dopp
The Bon Iver 12" singles I have sound incredible. There's no way they could've fit "I Can't Make You Love Me" on a 7" and kept the audio quality. The song is just too long, even at 33rpm. I've got some great sounding 7" too, I just prefer the look of a 12" single and I don't mind paying a few dollars more for it.

derby625
I prefer the 7" singles for organizational purposes. My 12" singles sit in a crate off to the side of my shelves and feel like they don't have a good home (This is based on my previous set up; I just moved so this may change)
derby625
Though I do have some sweet 12" singles that sound awesome (and are way cooler than the 7" version) Like this one: http://www.discogs.com/Smiths-William-It-Was-Really-Nothing/release/1523543
