what's the most you've ever spent on a record?

I have to update this. A few pages back I mentioned that I bought a 12" blue original press copy of Tera Melos' Drugs To The Dear Youth EP for $80 but I have spent more since then. About a month after BFRSD '14 I managed to haggle a flipper on Discogs down to $100 for Government Plates. At the time I thought that was a crazy price and that no one would ever spend more than that but looking back I'm glad I did it because there is no way I'd be able to swing what they're fetching for now.

$60 for :

  • EF- Give Me Beauty.....Or Give Me Death
    • (original press because I was told there would never be a repress and 4 weeks later there was :( )

Same thing happened to me with "Red Forest" by If These Trees Could Talk.  I found a dude on here, bought if for $70.  A few weeks later, the represses.  But mine was a 1st press clear blood which doesn't ever go up for sale anywhere, so I think it's worth it.  It sounds amazing, too.

It doesn't take a "dad" to see that you are a pretentious idiot.

Using the word pretentious makes you look fuckin' pretentious. And coming from someone who buys nearly anything from the 90s hahaha. I used the phrase "humor me" because spending that much on a record would make any sane man laugh. If I'm wrong, trust me, I don't wanna be right.

Been a while since I did this depressing exercise. All of my most-paid hover around the same price point:

$155 The Drums - Help Him 7" (benefit auction, #1/1)

$150 Killers - Hot Fuss (og US press, sealed)

$150 U2 - How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb

$140 Liars - WIXIW (wax-dipped)

$130 Mac Demarco - Rock & Roll Night Club (green)

I think mine have to be:

The Dear Hunter - The Color Spectrum (~$90)

Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool ($85)

Then the other "higher" stuff is maybe in the $50s

Closure in Moscow - Pink Lemonade ($55 Aus import)

British Theatre - Mastery ($50 UK Import)

Oceansize - Self Preserved LE/Signed (~$50 UK Import)

I try not to get too wild unless it's something special and I NEED IT.
