Mars
Listening to 1989 for the first time now. I'm not familiar with the source material, so I'm not making comparisons. Ryan sounds good though, I like it. Do I now want to go and listen to the original, check out Taylor Swift? Not likely.

bluescreenlife
P4K really didn't like 1989. http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/21101-1989/ Not generally a fan of Pitchfork reviews but I think they make some good points. I've given the album a few listens and it just comes off as underwhelming, weary, and weak. I love Adams but these kind of songs structurally are meant to be explosive pop songs, and he just kind of makes them... boring. Half the time he's singing in this soft lullaby voice, and I'm not sure why. He's a very capable singer and songwriter. But hey, that's just like uh, y'know, my opinion, man. jhulud
^^ You touch on some point also. My opinion will be mostly one-sided as I'm not 100% well-versed in Adams' music (I have given spin to Heartbreaker and love it!) and I'm of course into Swift's music as it's widely known 'round here. This article points a few of those things you brought up and delves deeper into comparisons of the two albums: http://www.vox.com/2015/9/23/9384571/ryan-adams-1989-taylor-swift-review

I can recommend another album of his to check out depending on what style you want if you'd like. He's kinda touched every genre in some way or another. fuckinandsuckinandtouchin
I never take Pitchfork seriously. Here's their 3.5/10 review of Bleed American. http://m.pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/4261-bleed-american/
Blaine
I never take Pitchfork seriously. Here's their 3.5/10 review of Bleed American. http://m.pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/4261-bleed-american/ How much weight can be given to a site that doesn't allow comments on their reviews? It's a forum for so-called experts to speak on music that clearly isn't to their liking.
bluescreenlife
I never take Pitchfork seriously. Here's their 3.5/10 review of Bleed American. http://m.pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/4261-bleed-american/ That's one of their worst, when I read that the first time I was furious and realized Pitchfork employs a lot of hipster asswipes who think that any album that has any mainstream success must be trash. I mean good god, they gave Futures a 3.0. That album is full of incredible songs.
himynameisShane
I keep coming back to his version off Bad Blood. I still need to sit down and listen to it as a whole
Dominic_
I keep coming back to his version off Bad Blood. I still need to sit down and listen to it as a whole Hardcore RA fanboy and this just didn't do it for me, but that being said I am not at all a fan of the source material, I really hate it with a passion. Listen to Heartbreaker or Gold instead IMO. So close to completing his studio discography, then on to the 7"s

Bhemblem
Question. I was in my local shop today and almost bought the 10 songs from Carnegie Hall. I held off though because I know I'd end up wanting (and eventually getting) the full 6xLP set. I'm looking for it online now and it's looking like the cheapest is $66 from SSD. Is this going to be my best bet? I don't know what it originally sold for. That's not a bad price, but I thought I'd ask you guys first. I've seen the set on sale on a lot of sites. Seems like they made too many of the second pressing and are having a hard time selling them. DawgPound1946
$66 is an awesome price, and you probably get free shipping and no tax from them. It's a real solid package, the box itself is nice, and both LP jackets are nice. Bhemblem
