leviegalapon
I ordered a vinyl on colored vinyl and when that vinyl arrived, it was on black vinyl. Ugh, the worst. That actually happened to me once. I just reasoned that they sold out all the colored ones and just gave me the black one. I remember I used to say "vin-yul" and vinyls
Sugar Shane
I stacked my vinyl when I first started collecting, causing one of my records to have a nice little warp to it. Dumbass me.

tittus
The first table I owned I bought at 17 from a friend. No idea what I was buying, but they really sold me with the 'USB' function on it. Turns out it was one of those tables you can get from Bed Bath and Beyond and I spent way too much money on it. Still cringe about that today. Aych
I kept my records in a big woven basket with rounded edges before I got my Expedit. As I added more and more records to my collection, the weight being put on the records closest to the edges caused the sides of some of the sleeves to get crushed in. maneatingcow
My biggest vinyl fuck up is not having enough frames for all my vinyl. Seriously nothing worse than having a couple shelves full of winyl when they should be on display on my wall. sirrichardrichard
I bought HOFX on yellow splatter in the Summer of 1996 when I was in England. I brought it back packed in my suitcase between some clothes - luckily it was minimally damaged - vinyl was fine, sleeve had some dings. videogamesandvinyl
I cussed Danny out over the phone at SRC over a record that I had ordered and waited weeks to get, only to realize that it was a pre-order and they were still waiting to get them in stock to ship. aflycon
I don't know how "vinyl noob-ey" this is, but I've also bought a few records without examining them close enough to notice their sick warps - namely Life in the Fat Lane and EP/LP by Subhumans, both super disappointing. No wonder I got them both for a steal.
horrorbusiness138
I stacked my vinyl when I first started collecting, causing one of my records to have a nice little warp to it. Dumbass me. The first 7" I ever bought was MxPx - The Broken Bones at one of their shows. I was 15 when I bought it and didn't know at the time that records shouldn't be lain down flat. Now it's warped and probably won't ever get played again.
jhook
I preordered a record on a Monday, when it wasn't in my mailbox by Wed I called and complained, I also slandered the label on the internet! I know now that I should have waited until at least Friday to do what I did. kurtz, whoshotthefrog and Fairmount
whoshotthefrog
My funny/embarrassing vinyl story coincides with one of the first records I ever bought. Which I mentioned in the "What was your first record" thread. When I was 12, Slayer - Reign in Blood was released. A friend's older brother introduced them to me. After the first riff from Angel of Death started blaring through the speakers, I was instantly a fan. The next time I went to the mall I wanted to buy Reign in Blood but the record store didn't have it in stock. So I bough Show No Mercy instead. I remember coming home and listening to it with my twin brother. We both sat there startled and confused because this album sounded nothing like Reign in Blood. We both thought something was wrong with the record. So my Mom had to go back to the record store and exchange it for a new copy. When she gave me the new copy it still sounded like the returned copy. Eventually I asked my friend's brother and he told me Reign in Blood was a completely different style then Show No Mercy and nothing was wrong with my record. I know this may not sound funny to anyone else but my brother and I always get a good laugh over it whenever we see anything involving Show No Mercy. thoughtsky
I was really curious about the 7" / 45rpm adaptor and I was sure I had to put every 7" on it and so I did even so that looked pretty odd with the ones that have a small hole which most of my 7"s do. somethingvinyl
Am I the only one that hates the word "passion?" It just makes things seem so disingenuous to me. Ugh. It's probably just me, but... ugh. I have no vinyl noob story. I've been doing shit right since the 90's, son. This is me, except I'm sure I've done a few dumb things. But now that's it's been nearly twenty years, it's just inconsequential.
