jonochuu
Forgive me if this is a dumb topic, but I've only just recently started to collect vinyl (I got my first record player for christmas this year) and I've already had the misfortune of accidentally warping one of my 7 inches - my 2nd pressing of The World is a Beautiful Place...'s Formlessness EP. I already ordered another copy of if from Topshelf (4th pressing this time), so I'm not too worried about it, but I would like to get my original one back to a playable state if possible. I've googled around and learned about "sandwiching" the record and putting it in the oven/sun baking it and what not, but I was mostly just wondering if anyone here has had any personal experience in un-warping records, and if it's worth trying to fix? MisSigsFan
I've heard sandwiching and putting them in warm areas works. Too afraid to try though.
zacooper
there was a thread about this not too long ago. Use the search function and see if you can find it. One of the members places it between sheets of glass and throws it in the oven or something. cbbrew22, rtw88 and chutterhanban
MisSigsFan
The oven? Oh hell no! That would completely ruin the grooves wouldn't it?
isavedlatin54
nope, it didn't. read up on how to do it. it worked for me
MisSigsFan
No loss of quality at all? That's interesting. I'd imagine you wouldn't set the oven too high, maybe 150-200F at most.
littlebistro
There should be a beginner or recently joined forum where people could ask questions that have been asked 1000 times.. Then all these threads could be moved there, and hopefully those people could avoid being hated from the get go. moonbeams, chefchino, youspinmeround and 1 other

jonochuu
does anyone know if the record being a 7 inch would make a difference?? i don't know much about heat/science/physics but it would seem logical that less surface area would equate to less energy required to un-warp it... somethingvinyl
It's not an exact science. If it's worth the effort to try, do it. Since you're getting another playable copy, you actually still have the 2nd pressing of it in your collection. Why risk it?

How about a stickied: NEW TO VINYL faq thread. 1. How to clean your records 2. How to fix a warped record 3. What does PO mean? etc.
jonochuu
An FAQ thread is definitely a good idea.
moonbeams
I'll make one tomorrow. Gotta find the old threads that answered the questions for links.

I dunno, i just think it'd be fun to try, and since the record is already unplayable i might as well try it. the worst that could happen is that it continues to be unplayable, right? tokimedo
took all of.....15 seconds typing "warped vinyl" into the search box. look around before you post topics that have been covered time and time over, please. http://boards.vinylcollective.com/topic/1453-warped-records-fix/?hl=%20warped%20%20record http://boards.vinylcollective.com/topic/2510-home-remedies-for-warped-records/?hl=%2Bwarped+%2Brecord http://boards.vinylcollective.com/topic/2712-fixing-warped-vinyl/?hl=%2Bwarped+%2Brecord http://boards.vinylcollective.com/topic/11576-putting-records-in-the-oven/?hl=%2Bwarped+%2Brecord http://boards.vinylcollective.com/topic/16207-is-this-salvageable/?hl=%2Bwarped+%2Brecord http://boards.vinylcollective.com/topic/80261-does-anyone-havehas-used-a-vinyl-flat/?hl=%2Bwarped+%2Brecord http://boards.vinylcollective.com/topic/77852-help-warped-vinyl/?hl=%2Bwarped+%2Brecord http://boards.vinylcollective.com/topic/73767-question-about-warping/?hl=%2Bwarped+%2Brecord http://boards.vinylcollective.com/topic/2410-warped-records-in-the-mail/?hl=%20warped%20%20record
bobfrombob
I'm all in favour of a FAQ but just to use one example, how do you clean your records? You can easily search here and find 10 different opinions about cleaning records or dealing with warped records so a single FAQ might be a challenge. I say pin this. jhook
How did you warp a record into unplayable condition in less then 3 weeks? Did you leave it outside, in the car, in an oven?

firefoxUSSR
I want to know more about this subject. I have a Dustin Kensrue 12" that I bought from some douchebag (on this board as a matter of fact) and it's so warped I haven't even played it.... it's really that bad. jonochuu
I want to know this too. Just curious... my records were being propped against the wall in the corner of my room, and I discovered a weird heat leak coming from that corner one day - there were no vents near by or other signs that would have otherwise tipped me off. I promptly relocated them to a safer location, but not before the record that was closest to the wall got damaged. :/ I still don't have a box or proper place for them though.
