caninesapien
I found this question on another forum and hadn't ever really thought about it before. I tried to go through my top ten, which is always difficult, and expected the number to be a lot less, but I'm on nearly half women artists/bands and half men. Just thought it was an interesting question to think about. For the record, mine, in no order Hendrix/Band of Gypsys - Band of Gypsys NIN - The Downward Spiral PJ Harvey - Stories from the City.... Harvey Milk - Special Wishes/Courtesy and Good Will Toward Men Diamanda Galas - The Divine Punishment Charles Mingus - The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady Sleater-Kinney - One Beat Beth Orton - Comfort of Strangers Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - No More Shall We Part Can - Tago Mago aju2streets

TheGhostOfRandySavage
It's hard for me to choose 10 albums as a top ten list, but for artists I'd say I probably have 3. Neko Case is way up toward the top though.

Breezus
Top 10? None. Not even Top 100; according to my last-fm charts, Adele's 21 comes in at #118 lol. Although Björk's one of my most played artists, there aren't many albums by female artists/bands I listen to on repeat. I don't know why that is. daegor
Ignoring the obvious flame bait, I do find this an interesting question. I'm a fan of female vocals in metal and other 'more abrasive' genres, so I constantly end up defending my tastes against think skulled metal heads who say things like Bruce and aren't joking.Again ignoring the obvious flame bait if this thread, and because top ten lists without some kind of limiter are impossible anyway, here are some female musicians or female lead groups I enjoy:Android LustBanditChelsea WolfeEntheos HaedesHansmoleHow To Destroy AngelsiwrestledabearonceKing WomanMeg MyersAuf der MaurMother MotherMyrkurnearLYOathbreakerPortisheadRolo TomassiSnow GhostsSystemsUnderhillUnicronWhirr (some albums)12 RoundsOh, and caninesapien, I'm sure you didn't intend to flame, you just didn't realize what the inevitable outcome of such a post is. caninesapien
Oh, and caninesapien, I'm sure you didn't intend to flame, you just didn't realize what the inevitable outcome of such a post is. Nah, I figured the outcome, but I think it's still an interesting question. My top ten list has looked that way for a number of years, but I hadn't even considered if there was some kind of huge imbalance between male/female musicians in what I consider to be the most important music in my life. I think it's an interesting thing to consider. 1 of them is by someone who is now a woman, does that count. I was just thinking the same. Heathen Earth by Throbbing Gristle isn't in my top ten, but it's close.

Sidney Crosley
I don't think any of my top ten records are from artists with female members or female singers, but quite a few of my favourite bands/artists have female singers or band members - Neko Case, New Pornographers, Aimee Mann/Til Tuesday, Gillian Welch, Arcade Fire, Robyn, Fleetwood Mac, Talking Heads, Whiskeytown, Kathleen Edwards, Sarah Harmer/Weeping Tile, etc. (as you can see, my musical interests are quite varied). My wife's favourite artist is Joni Mitchell, but she rarely finds female singers as interesting as I do - perhaps in part because Joni Mitchell's music is so unique (maybe less so in her earlier stuff, but few have ever pulled off anything quite as interesting and intricate as mid-70s Mitchell).
