jhulud
Officially announced last night, Insound will be shutting down after 16 years of music and records. (Got Tweet grab from MV)
gmoney
Not too surprising. They were always a little overpriced and expensive shipping. I think I've bought from them one time in my 15 years of buying records. esbe and kk-downing

bossdj26
Bummer. They were my first go to when I started collecting in college (outside of local shops). I'm sure I was probably part of the problem. Hard to order from them when prices are so much cheaper elsewhere on the interwebs.

tonyfranciosa
used to be my go-to vinyl retailer. then they started not sending things out as quick. then the coupons dried up. then the prices went up across the board. looking through my orders and pre-2004 was good times. sunkilmoonfan
Yeah, their shipping was always a bit high, and they never used oversize mailers. It was tough to order from them unless they were having a huge sale or were offering something that others were not. That said, they always seemed to snag a preorder like that Grizzly Bear "Shields" gold vinyl....

JacobMckinley
I mean, as a early 2000's kid this kinda sucks. But if they wanted to stay in business, there were some real easy things they could have done.
kidamnesiac
Bummer. One of the first online vinyl retailers I discovered when I started collecting. I bought my current turntable and quite a few LPs from them over the years.
tonyfranciosa
They were the only game in town for a long time (outside of *shudder* Aural Exploits) if you didn't want to spend audiophile prices at Music Direct or Acoustic Sounds.
dreamover
I've ordered from them maybe twice in the last two years. Prices were never competitive and shipping was far from reasonable. That's what happens when you don't adapt. I'm surprised they stayed open as long as they did.
natenomm
The best thing about Insound was their xx% off deals that applied to turntables. You could get a solid Music Hall, Rega, or Pro-Ject for a lower price than anywhere else.
just a normal guy kevin
I hope they do an insane 10% off sale. Or a 20% off select 7"s and one Panda Bear record sale. plasma36, esbe, natenomm and 1 other
itsWetWilly
They must've gone into a meeting and said, "Well, everyone. We did it. We finally got to put up a pre-order for the long awaited repress of Deja Entendu before any other online retailer. This is the proudest moment in our 16 years of business. There's nothing more we can do." All jokes aside, it's always sad to see a business close, but as others have said, it's not all that surprising. Haven't ordered from them since unfortunately.
HybridxReality
Yeah, pretty much what everyone is saying about shipping. Had ordered vinyl once and shipping was around $4-$5, so it wasn't too bad, but I wanted a pack of sleeves and I've never purchased them, but I'm sure they're not too heavy when you buy ten, but shipping ended up being $12-$14 alone. But I didn't have any problems other than that, though.
distinctlydustin
Shipping is a hellava thing.
yancey47
It's a bummer. Used order from them a lot back in the day but only put in one order with 15% deal since. But very overpriced and shipping is dumb.
itsgoodtobefree
I remember them having issues with stock too. Of the few times I ordered with them, there was always a backordered item listed as in stock.
ntslash
I received many a damaged record from insound. But they were always good about it.
