RSD 2013: Tell your stories and share what you bought here!

Made the mistake of going to Long in the Tooth first, ended up waiting in line for two hours and both of the exclusives I wanted were sold out. They had a copy of Neurosis's "Given to the Rising" for a decent price so I got that instead. They also had a copy of the Kyuss/QotSA split on vinyl, but I didn't get it because I wasn't sure if it was a bootleg (just checked and all vinyl copies are bootlegs).

Went wandering around the city and got

Double Dagger EP/DVD at AKA

Surfer Blood 7" at Repo

which was nice, because the only other RSD exclusive I wanted (Their/They're/There) isn't an exclusive at all.

The best records I got were at Sit & Spin (no surprise there):

Life Trap - "Solitary Confinement"

XXX Maniak/Throatplunger Slimewave split

Hatred Surge/Insect Warfare split

Sidetracked - "Just a Front" - half black/half white

Orchid/Pig Destroyer split on blue

Spent way too much money and my legs are tired, but that's the spirit of RSD.

Did anyone get the patch with the phoenix 7"?

Nope. It's not on the official RSD list anymore - I was bummed

Bull Moose in Salem was once again a fucking shitshow. They need to set up their shit so more than 3 people can look at the RSD stuff at the same time. I hate them.

yup, i was there last year. an absolute fucking shit show.

I've gone to Salem this year and last year, tend to get a ton of stuff, but pushed and shoved everywhere.

my three wants for today were:

sigur ros, new found glory, silverstein/abr split

first store, got there about 40 minutes before they opened, 2nd in line...got inside, they didn't get any of them...balls

second store, got there about 30 minutes before they opened, 2nd in line again...got inside, they didn't get any of them...double balls, picked up ATDI for a friend

third store, had already been open about 30 minutes, found silverstein 7" (last one) and also bought jimmy eat world for the heck of it, almost bought the postal service give up loser edition but passed last minute

fourth store, got there 10 minutes before they opened, about 35-40 people in front of me, got to the table, they didn't have sigur ros or NFG, ugh!

last store, got there, they had been opened for a couple hours, waited in line for about 45 minutes, got to the table, they didn't have sigur ros, but low and behold they had one last copy of new found glory

long story short, i got 2 of my 3 main wants...not too shabby, really wish i could've found that sigur ros though ugh

Picked up

The Notorious B.I.G. - Ready to Die
Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory
Phoenix - Entertainment

Jimi Hendrix - Hey Joe
Pink Floyd - See Emily Play
Iron and Wine

Tame Impala
The White Stripes - Elephant

I love Turntable Labs. They had great selections (a lot of Notorious B.I.G.) and friendly staff even though it's a small store. Academy Records was eh for me. Although I picked up tame impala, hey joe, the white stripes and see emily play there the guy working behind the barely read the list of six records I wrote. That and see emily play was 25 bucks. See emily play was 15 at Turntable labs.

Went to Rasputin Music in Newpark Mall in Newark, CA, which had recently opened about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Arrived at 9:55, became 3rd in line. Patiently waited 5 minutes for it to open, discussed The Gaslight Anthem's show in San Francisco last night with the other two guys as three more people arrived. There were exactly two boxes of records, and the first two guys politely flipped through them and let us claim anything that they didn't immediately grab. Second guy even directly handed me ATDI since I informed him that it was my main hunt when he asked in line. Simplest RSD experience ever, entire transaction was over in nearly the same amount of time I spent waiting. Stock was pitiful/the remainders the trickled down from other nearby Rasputin stores so I only found 3/8 of my wants but I was beyond stoked regardless.

Picked up:

ATDI - ROC - $29.99

MGMT- "Alien Days" Cassingle - $8.99

Phoenix - Entertainment 7'' - $6.49 (Did anyone receive the 3-inch patch for this as originally stated? The cashier apologized that he was the only employee who understood what RSD was and that it was even today and that if it was a promotional item packaged separately, he didn't know where it was and would call me back)

$25 for see emily play?!  That is reason enough to boycott them.

I was kinda pissed cause I was in Turntable Labs when I saw that Turntable charged 15. But I justified my purchase in my mind because 1. It was my first stop and 2. I didn't know if I would see it again. Of course, in hindsight it was shitty. I'm just kinda pissed at Academy now.

ATDI

Botch

Codeine

Grey Area

Malkmus

Place to Bury

Samiam

Only thing I did not get that I wanted was Cave in but getting that Cursed from DW last night made up for everything

Oh and Twist and Shout is way beyond crazy these days. Way too many people to grab a Phish lp.

I sometimes wish stores would let you purchase stuff ahead of time if you are a good customer and not some dude who comes to buy a record once a year

MY RSD was an amazing story of triumph over evil. I call it:

The Good-

Afraid I would miss out, I woke up at 6 and was in line at a local store that I had never opened on RSD at 7am. I was fourth in line and really had a good time chatting with the guys who were ahead of me (and my buddy) and the girls behind us. The store opened late around 9:45, but when we went in, as promised (by the owner), they had a lot of RSD stuff. I got my hands on a few things I wanted including The White Stripes, At The Drive In, Soundgarden, and the Type O split. There was a lot more stuff, but none that I wanted, so I made my way to the cash register...

The Bad-

I set my items down on the counter and the cashier calls the manger over to help her ring them up. He comes over with a clip board and the girl asks him how much the At The Drive In record is. He looks at his clipboard and says... "$80." He then says "No, wait, sorry, $60." "WHAT?!?" I loudly exclaim! He immediately goes into defensive mode and says, "Hey, I don't make the prices." (Total Bull. Lying right to my face.) I am stunned. I look down at The White Stripes. The price tag says $79.99. I'm just standing there, confused. The cashier asks me if I want them. I ask what is the price on the Soundgarden. The manager says "$32." "What?!?" I almost yell out, again. The Manager then goes into dick mode and says, "I don't have time to argue." The cashier again asked me what I want. I say I don't want any of it and step back from the counter as the manager holds up the copy of Elephant and asks if anyone wants the White Stripes. Of course lots of people pipe up, but I'm already out the door. I was very annoyed and saddened by, no doubt, the number of people that would pay the inflated amounts. My buddy came out and we headed for the car. I start for the next store, but I'm going the wrong way, towards what would have been the third stop. I'm bummed so I don't really care, but little would I know that the misdirection would start the greatest comeback in RSD history! We arrived at the store to find lots of parking, I wasn't expecting much, but in reality, it was the start of:

And The Awesome-

It was 10:30 and there was no line, so I walked right in to find 15 or so people milling around. I looked up at the first shelf and immediately spot a blue cover with the silver baby! I pointed right at the Sigur Ros LP ($28) and grabbed it, handing it right to my buddy. It was his #1 want! I walk down the wall and reach up to grab the one copy they got in of At The Drive In! (34.99) I move further down and grab Samiam. ($21) I look around for Giant Henry, my buddy comes walking around the bin with it in his hand and gives it to me. Nice! I decide to pick up a couple of non-list items. The placebo 10" and the BTBAM - Anatomy of, and we check out. Feeling pretty good because we got some great things and we didn't even line up. the guy behind me had a copy of Elephant. It was $27. I then head to what would have been store number 2 if I hadn't have driven the opposite direction. It was packed and nearly picked clean! I bought a couple of non-RSD items and left feeling happy. If i would have come here second I would have missed my great finds.

We go to my place an listen to some records and once we feel like the lines have died down at the stores in the city, we head in for the "scraps". We walk down the street on this beautiful day and go to three stores and I end up getting EVERYTHING on my want list except Elephant. I find Mad Season ($25), Soundgarden($17), Type O($9), Coheed Demos ($21), and the other two covers of three different Giant Henry LP ($18)!!! Except for the first place, where I will never shop again, my local stores came through big time this year! They were all nice and ran things well, and it made searching for my desires very fun, exciting, and ultimately fulfilling.

I hope everyone had a good day, and if you haven't already, will end up getting all you want and enjoying the new records.

TL;DR - Good triumphed over evil. The End

Shitty Record Store: Blue Groove Soundz (yes, with a Z)

Amazing Record Stores: CD Cellar, Smash!. Crooked Beat. and Red Onion. Thanks guys and gals!

Went to the Exchange in Erie and the had an embarrassing selection. Like, maybe 7 records TOTAL. One copy of each. Really didnt feel like driving back home (I go to school in Edinboro), but after seeing that, I made my way to good ol Mentor OH to Record Den. Was able to pick up T/T/T and the Mumford and Sons live 10". Also got a copy of Max Bemis' Polarity at a comic book shop not far from there, which was awesome.

Overall, not a bad day

Damn you people who got White Stripes for $23. Fingerprints marked up the record to $35. Talk about opportunistic.

Also Fingerprints was the site of the biggest whiner on RSD. Guy is 2nd in line at Fingerprints. Finds out that the only DMB box set is being silent auctioned off for charity by the store instead of being sold. Proceeds to argue with owner on it being unfair. WAH WAH. Starts questioning the charity and why the silent auction is not being advertised on facebook. Starts coming up with schemes like "Everything I buy here at the store I will put up on ebay with the tag 'fingerprints.' I should even change my ebay handle to 'fingerprints music.'" He proceeds to say dumb stuff like "Maybe I should tell the owner that I will spend $100 at his store and then anything I get with the $100 he can just auction off and I can get the DMB set instead."

I know the guy posts here, so here's my message to him: Stop being a whining baby. You're a grown man. Fingerprints doesn't owe you anything. Ultimately, waiting in line for an item is a gamble at the end of the day. It's really sad to see grown men bitch like a 2 yr old over some lame records. "HEY GIVE ME THE DMB BOX SET! I'm THEIR BIGGEST FAN. I'VE BEEN TO 77 SHOWS!"

Seems I'm the only one who picked Zaireeka up on here.

wanted this but dat price, and dat logic.

i've tried syncing records together before and they inevitably fall out of sync.

i don't see this working in vinyl form.

still wanted it because i'm a lips freak, but would have been happier with a 1 disc mixdown of all the tracks, like the bootleg was.
