I try to avoid singles when I can, but I usually end up caving and listening one time. I resist revisiting it too much because I hate being overly familiar with a single in context to the first listen of an album. But I think I'm already up to 4 or 5 plays of 01-10-14. It really does get better with each revisit, and that just makes me want to queue it up shortly after. I love how many shifts there are in the song. Not sure if anyone commented on that already, but to me it feels like 3-4 songs in one. The repetitive crunchy riff at the end. That slow, lush string section a quarter of the way in. The smooth-as-silk transition from climactic instrumentals into the poppy but don't you quiver / I am an instrument segment. There's just so much to digest and it only continues to flourish and shine with each comb through. Really need to back away from it for a while. It's done its job flawlessly – providing a taste of the band's new sound while building the hype tenfold. I can only imagine what they'll be bringing to the table with a double LP, and the boasts of this being their best release to date has me considerably more excited than I ought to be.
