xadamhudsonx
i think the soundtrack for luhrman's romeo + juliet worked and that was modern music in a shakespearean story. The difference is that Luhrman's R+J was set in modern time so the modern music makes sense, even though the dialog was Shakespearean. Gatsby (as far as I can tell) is a period piece and all these "modern" artists were just chosen because of their current popularity, not their fit onto a soundtrack for a movie like this. Also, I really fucking hate DiCaprio. BobbyHill

booms528
Just listened to most of it (skipped the Will.i.am track) and it's decent. Feels a little scattered/all over the place, but I guess most soundtracks do.
oxxo
I liked more of the tracks than I thought I would, but I doubt I'll want to listen to it as vinyl sides. Maybe if it were a triple-decker filled with real $100 bills. Or bullets. Or gin.

scottheisel
THIRD MAN RECORDS PRESENTS: THE GREAT GATSBY GOLD & PLATINUM LIMTED EDITION METALIZED RECORD SET FEATURING FIRST EVER COMMERCIALLY RELEASED GOLD AND PLATINUM METALLIC LPs, LASER-CUT WOODEN JACKET WITH ALUMINUM SPINES PRE-SALES FOR JUNE 11th RELEASE DATE OF STANDARD EDITION LP AVAILABLE FRIDAY MAY 10th. See Video at http://youtu.be/BWOtFqcg7vg Third Man Records is humbled to be a part of such a stellar confluence of literature, art and music in handling the vinyl release of the soundtrack to Baz Luhrman's The Great Gatsby. In an effort to present an object that integrates all the inter-connected components of this release, Third Man Records has gone the extra mile with their limited-edition version of the soundtrack in pioneering a never-before released method for vinyl records. Both LPs in the set are blindingly reflective metalized discs. Disc one is platinum and disc two is gold. These are the first-ever commercially available records made using these precious metals via this process. Not stopping there, the records come housed in a entirely unique laser-cut wooden LP jacket riveted to aluminum spines. All of these elements (gold, platinum, aluminum, wood and brass) showcase the Art Deco-meets-modern style, classic meets cutting edge, which is the essence of The Great Gatsby film and Third Man Records. Mere words pale in comparison to the actual physical presence of this piece, so please do check out the video here to get the full experience of the release. These unique hand made sets will retail for $250 and Pre-Sales will be available in a limited number through the Third Man website (US only) from 9am on Friday May 10th in order to coincide with the Great Gatsby cinema release. Also on Friday the 10th, the first 100 physical copies of the set will be available in the Third Man retail store in Nashville from 10am. In addition to the limited edition, Third Man is also announcing the release date of June 11th for the standard edition double album. The soundtrack will be on 180 gram vinyl and housed in a Gold Foil stamped gatefold sleeve. Pre-sales for this standard edition of the soundtrack will also be available on the Third Man website on Friday May 10th.
