zerohacker
According to an email I just got from them... On May 25th, SPACELAB9 will present the first of two releases in a new video game soundtrack series. Beginning first with an LP for Capcom's legendary MEGA MAN, the album contains a collection of the most memorable moments and awesome boss themes from the game's 1987 debut up through 2010's Mega Man 10. The second tops IGN's list of the best RPGs of all time (any guesses?). Both albums will initially be released on picture disc format and available exclusively at Hot Topic. Non-picture disc fans stay tuned for more exciting news about these game titles and many others on the way...

Fridge Fox
I'm not that into picture discs (except Lana Del Rey) but I do appreciate this style of jacket. I hate the PVC sleeves. Especially now after learning that a bunch of my records in those sleeves are now ruined. If they came in packaging like this they would be fine. I have a few discs in those plastic pic disk sleeves and they are annoying because they always split. but how did your records get ruined from them? I'd like to prevent mine from damage. I'd like to prevent mine from damage. I don't know if it's every PVC sleeve but a bunch of mine did it. I think it's what it's made out of. It releases a chemical that stains into the vinyl permanently. I'd suggest putting records from PVC sleeves into paper ones.

I'm pretty sure I already have all of them in paper sleeves which are then contained in the plastic. thanks for the info.

Retep
I wonder if picture discs sell better to the general consumer who is clueless about vinyl and that's why HT banks on them over standard pressings for the kitschy soundtracks.

I think this "staining" Andrewlucas is talking about only happened on the Glassjaw Worship and Tribute release. I think standard PVC sleeves are ok, but people should definitely put the records in paper sleeves.

On the subject of safe sleeves, if a record comes with an inner sleeve that has a design on it and it's cardstock-ish, is it safe to use? (Think Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures). Hence plenty of copies floating around only having one side that is fucked up.

I don't think the inner sleeves can do damage per se, but it would be a good idea to have nice lined paper sleeves to put the records in so they can stay nice and also protect the original inner sleeves that has a design.
