thanks for your patience with me on this one, y'all. i know there have been some headaches over the last year or so. we've really been going through it. i'm def not trying to make any excuses though and want everyone to be happy with what they ordered. i will say tho, i've had so much support from friends when it gets crazy, but day to day, all customer service, shipping, receiving, inventorying—it's all just me. so it can get kinda backed up sometimes (it is right now). we're bringing on more folks to help soon and gradually rebounding from the whole Awesome Merch fiasco. i can't express how much that knocked us completely on our ass tho. i think we're putting out some of the nicest, high quality, intentionally packaged records of any indie label our size currently despite all that. and i think we're gonna get things more organized and streamlined in the next few months. so, yeah, idk, i am rambling, but i just wanted to say thanks for bearing with us on some super annoying pre-orders. we'll definitely get things humming along again here shortly. oh! also! anyone getting the "Polaris Blue" variant and finding it doesn't look as intended. we're looking into how this happened as this isn't what we ordered. i was as suprised as any of you. here's some copy pasta i've sent a few people who have emailed to inquire about it: tytyty15 points

Reminder that Hopesfall The Satellite Years 2.0 goes up at 1pm EST on EVR. https://equal-vision-records.myshopify.com/ I hear there's a "handful" of alt covers going up. In case anyone is wondering the alt cover was $45 USD at FF. Also the album is up on streaming services and sounds brilliant! I'm hearing little nuances that Ive never heard before in the songs!2 points

Two guest vocalists ... maybe an EP to raise funds with all guest vocalists? Good for them for staying active while Madi recovers. EDIT: Preorder live from Pure Noise. https://purenoise.merchnow.com/collections/year-of-the-knife Apparently recorded pre-accident with Madi.2 points -
2 new Year of the Knife tracks. I really like these. I think there's an album coming but I'm not 100% sure.2 points

New EP out in October 13 - Boygenius (Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus) presents the rest, a new four-track EP. Building upon the themes of friendship and queer joy established in their debut full-length the record, the rest continues to showcase the band’s songwriting prowess and intimate cohesion as a unit. This is how I felt too. I listened to it a couple of times on streaming when it first came out and thought it was fine, but then kind of forgot about it. But, then I was going to go see them when they came though my town, so I gave it another try and found it a lot more enjoyable. I’m into it.1 point -
These are both fantastic. I hope this band has the biggest comeback, they deserve it1 point

Haha music is a physical object, that is exactly why this forum exists, and it is in some ways very similar to collecting, say, fine art prints or collectible toys. Anyway, if you want a meaningful answer don't poll a small sample of randos on a forum. Look at Discogs instead to see how much people are actually paying for music (which in some instances can be in the thousands of dollars).1 point

I kind of felt the same way after my first listen on Spotify. But once I finally had it in my hands and sat down to listen to it, my opinion changed. So much better than I first thought it was. Not a very good “driving” album so maybe that had something to do with it.1 point -
Honestly, not much at all. At the end of the day, this shit isn’t that important compared most other things people have going on in their lives. If I was told I had to sell my whole collection tomorrow, I’d be extremely bummed, sure. But I imagine I’d move on to something else pretty quickly.1 point

the band didn't love how they recorded it and it's been bothering them for a long time so they wanted to have Brad and Emily Lazar remix and remaster it - it definitely sounds a lot clearer and packs a bit more punch in certain songs and moments (specially Kerosine and DNA for me)1 point -

You know how I said I feel like people did not read Topshelf's entire statement... Well... I don't want to call you out but they're literally dealing with their own problems and they have funds set aside for an emergency because they have successfully been around that long. You might want to tone down your ignorance and take the time to read the links before commenting because you missed the mark with everything you've said.1 point

They literally cannot make money for the foreseeable future. They have a staff and royalties to pay. The way they make money is currently locked up from them and it's of no fault of their own. Kevin says in the post they were going to drive out and move their shit, but were told they can't get their shit. One month of zero income for small businesses is enough to press the panic button and start laying people off. This is a totally appropriate time to ask for help. Labels and bands have Kickstarted at way way less deserving times than TSR right now. It's really fucking weird to see someone questioning the morality of this.1 point

Real estate. Unless you sell out of every record and every variant, you’re going to have lots of back inventory, which requires space. As mentioned in the Topshelf announce, they had their own place but realtors wanted to gouge them and increase rent 32%. Mike Park does it out of his Moms house and does small presses because he can’t have 5K records floating around at a time. Other labels like Lauren Records do it out of their houses. It’s basically one of two methods. House or gamble on renting a place. The other factor is staffing. You might have days where you get 5 orders, so you’d have to have multi-discipline staff that can then go spend the other 7 hours of their day doing something else label related. Otherwise you’re either paying too much orrr you end up bringing in people just for a new pre-order rush, which leads to people not knowing how to pack records, etc. Then you get complaints and no one buys from you anymore, etc. Hard balance.1 point

PO Soon Weatherday - Come In (emo, lofi)
topshelfsquad reacted to MyEnemy for a topic
I really can’t imagine that. Even if it were, I don’t think Kevin would change the price on something because of that. There must’ve been some wires crossed with the artist about it in an email. Definitely know that happens. All I can think of. But I’m a little surprised the Pink /500 is still there.1 point -

Got both albums at once. If you only got one of the two items in an order I would send a polite email to topshelf, they have never split my orders before (probably 50 orders deep with them).1 point -
