[PO] HOLY FAWN – Death Spells
Gvzr and 2 others reacted to holyvacantsholyhell for a topic
I hope this pressing sells out like I hope it will with the quickness, and it rightfully catapults this band into the spotlight. This visceral of a reaction to a PO for a band's debut that no one has really heard of before this year is something rare. And I love it.3 points -

The “lesson” I alluded to was just ordering a copy of Aurora from Holy Roar, unaware that Deathwish would end up importing both variants for way cheaper, shortly after. Outside from that I think you have a really clear grasp on how the sub works. The only thing I’d add is that there’s no way any new subs, right now, are going to get in on that platinum-sub variant. You had to have been locked in to scoop that up, with an ongoing sub for the better part of 2018. The good news is that sub holders aren’t stoked on every single release, so you can often find an exclusive variant on Discogs for a fair price, once they ship out. It’ll be a rat race to scoop it up, but that’s definitely your best bet if you’re really after one.2 points

Makes me so happy to hear. Glad you enjoyed it man! And no on the vinyl. When preorders were first going up places (like Bullmoose and amazon), they had the release date as November 23rd or something like that. But then his official web store put up preorders and said they wouldn’t ship until January. NOW Amazon has the release date as February 15th. So yeah... hopefully sometime in the next couple months. ”Roadhouse 01” is currently in stock and on vinyl at most places though. And his first album was never pressed unfortunately.1 point

Allan Rayman is pretty fucking cool. At least Harry Hard-On is, specifically. First 2 tracks out of the gates were A+, and one or two immediately grabbed me on first listen as well. That’s not to say the remainder disappointed – just feels like there is room for the album to grow and rise to the same plateau established by the instant bangers. And that always lends itself to a respectable amount of replayability, in my books – much preferred over being smitten on the first couple of go-arounds before realizing how shallow it is. Will gladly revisit it soon. Did the vinyl not ship yet? Asking because it’s not even listed on Discogs at the moment. Doesn’t get much more low-key than that.1 point

Here's what I've watched over the last week. Mostly holiday horror, since they kind of have a shelf life. I also watched Black Christmas last night, but I had a little too much holiday cheer and kept getting distracted by other things. Guess I'll revisit next year! Christmas Evil - This is one of the better ones overall. Not as memorable or fun as Silent Night, Deadly Night, but it's the better movie as a whole. Silent Night, Deadly Night - This one is fun and trashy and has some clever holiday themed kills. This'll be my go-to one. Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2 - As mentioned before, the first half of this is literally flashbacks of the previous film. The back half is pretty fun and there's a great rampage at the end. Even with the fact that they only made half a movie, I mostly enjoyed it. Silent Night, Deadly Night 3 : Better Watch Out - Woof, this one is a real dog. Borderline unwatchable. Silent Night, Deadly Night 4 : Initiation - I feel like there were some re-writes to make this take place around Christmas. There's no killer Santa and the plot involves a witch coven. It's definitely bad, but it's kind of charming in a late night cable sort of way. Silent Night, Deadly Night 5 : The Toy Maker - Decent idea with ok execution. Gets real weird in the last 20 minutes (there's some obvious foreshadowing, but it's still surprising that they take it in such a strange direction). The Children - This has some fun kills and overall decent story. Biggest issue I had is it looked and felt really cheap and that took me out of it a lot. The House That Jack Built - I thought this was great all around. It held my attention for the entire 150 minute runtime and seemed to move pretty fast. There were a couple nice little nods to a few real serial killers too. Hell Fest - I didn't care for this, but I also feel like it was geared towards people in their late teens and not someone in their 30s. It might not be bad as a group watch. Eli Roth's History of Horror - People I like talking about movies I like. This doesn't really deep dive into things, but it's fun and I learned a few things. I'd recommend it. Wellington Paranormal - Not nearly as essential as What We Do In The Shadows. It it pretty amusing and if you want more of this world, you most likely won't be disappointed. Hope everyone had a good holiday!1 point -
Sounds killer. If it treats me right I’ll gladly check out Hotel Allan while I’m at it. This sounds great to me, too. Foxing [probably] isn’t my AOTY, for reference, but it’s apparently the 2018 album I’ve played most – all those twists and turns give it a ton of replayability for me. First Foxing album that’s really done anything for me, long term. Stoked to check out Allan. Sounds like it may be a breath of fresh air compared to what I’ve been listening to.1 point

Completely unbiased to both Foxing/Allan and I just listened to both for the first time. Foxing was good but Allan was more my bag1 point

It was definitely a close call. And I doubt most, if anyone, would think it’s better than the Foxing album. But there’s just something about it for me. It’s so funky, dark, sexy, all those good things. His voice is on a whole other level too in my opinion. Regardless, I’m excited to hear what you think.1 point

You get exclusives if you subscribe for about $30 a month ($3 extra for US folks). Platinum subs are the senior members that have never cancelled a month. I have the Slow Crush sub Splatter vinyl that I bought directly from the band after the had announced they had a couple left over.1 point
