  3. As I am sure you all know, the recent re-issue of Deja Entendu has made some of us very happy to finally own and completed our Brand New record collections. While the RSD version was cool, it lacked the special packaging that we expected.. We wanted to see a return of the black slipcase, in which the original CD release came in. Why this wasn't done for the standard or RSD version (or even a deluxe version), is beyond me. Even 12 years later, I remember the awesome packaging that this CD had. Over the past month or so, I took matters into my own hands, Not as a cash grab (Trust me, I won't be paying my rent with this lol), but to try something new and give back to the fans and members of this board. After designing, sourcing and sampling, I have come up with a slipcase/sleeve that I am extremely happy with. It slips snug right over the recent re-issue of Deja Entendu, making it look almost exactly like the original CD release. They will be going live at www.dejasleeve.com on Monday at 9AM (PST). This will be a pre-order and these will ship on or before August 10th. They will be $5.99 for one and $9.99 for two (one for you and your lover, best friend, dad, etc.) plus shipping. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask! I'm super stoked about this, and I hope the people on these forums are too!

  9. Today a cool thing happened. I work at a church in Decatur, GA and I was finishing up editing some guitar overdubs for a Christmas album, but I left the hard drive with all of the tracks on it in my car. As I was walking through the lobby out to the parking lot I saw someone who greatly resembled Chris Freeman from Manchester Orchestra walking past me. I did a double take but kept walking. Later I had to go get something out of the a/v closet and into the room next door walk Andy, Robert, and Chris. So definitely Manchester Orchestra. At this point I am wondering if I have fallen asleep at my desk and am having one of those vivid dreams where you're at work and your favorite band shows up in tuxedos. Turns out they were groomsmen in a wedding. I was "that guy" and went in and introduced myself and they were very gracious and didn't make me feel like an ass for being a fanboy. Very cool dudes. So yea. Cool thing. How was your day?

    Hiking

trip route, came home through Wyoming/Nebraska/Iowa. 3 hotels rooms for the entire trip, 1 night at my friends house in Western Montana and 8 nights in a tent. Drove up to Logan's Pass and hiked to Hidden Lake on our first full day at Glacier. Also hiked part of the Highline Trail when we got back down to the visitors center. The Garden Wall might be the most amazing glacial formation in the park that we saw. I'll post a picture of that later if I can find it Avalanche Creek on our last full day of hiking, we did this and the trail of Cedars as a good easy day hike. Avalanche Lake was incredible, i'll post a pic of that later, too. We hiked to Sperry Lake, this is Mount Brown, theres a lookout you can hike to up there on the Northern side, we obv. didnt do that. It was 95+ degrees that day, this was the most brutal hike we made. Saw Little Matterhorn and Edwards Mountain as well from here. It was really awesome, but after hiking 7 miles of constant elevation gain, we were exhausted.

  22. From the newsletter: MONDO is already the destination for the best of new release titles (i.e. Jurassic World and Mad Max: Fury Road,) animated features (The BoxTrolls, Batman: The Animated Series) and genre classics such as our forthcoming Aliens & Army Of Darkness releases - all with incredible original artwork. But now it will also be the home to original video game & TV soundtrack releases. Mondo records is the elder brother of the family and has grown up into quite the catch.

  33. The beauty of these decks is that they are good from the start so you can take as long as you like to do it, I've not rewired that particular Thorens arm but rewiring any arm is the same in principle in that you use the old cable to pull the new through, you do it slowly and methodically and employ as much patience as you can muster, oh and be careful of the black ground cable as you are not replacing that and it's easy to break it's connection inside the arm. The suspension is easy to set up and is identical in principle to a Linn, Ariston, AR etc etc. so find the early Linn set up manual on line and follow that but you shouldn't need to change it if it's sitting level or you change the arm. You can do the bounce test in that if you push down on the spindle then let go it should come back up as flat as it went down, if it wobbles about as it comes back up or you feel more resistance in one area as it goes down then you might need to look at the isolators at the top or bottom of the springs but all that's pretty obvious when you get the base plate off. In terms of musicality to my ears with everything else equal a good suspended sub-chassis turntable wipes the floor with any un-suspended turntable no matter how expensive or how good it's supposed to be and yours can be a very very good suspended table, I also find it funny how many people I've spoken to who buy a brand new Project or similar and replace it with a good vintage table and say how much better it is, there's nothing new in hifi and I've never understood how they sell so many of these new tables when there are so many much better old tables out there for less money. Each to their own I suppose.

  36. I'm not into cassettes now, but when I was a youth, it was the only option. I used to rock a Sony Sports walkman. It was a fine piece of machinery that held up nicely. In 1992, I lost it in a halfpipe while snowboarding. I dug it out of the snow and, even after being run over with the edge of my snowboard, it still worked perfectly. It's rotting is some landfill now.

That splash page is a "new media" internet marketing solution to people googling "is VNYL a scam?" All the keywords are there- is, VNYL, a, scam- and I'm guessing they are trying to appear on the first page of those results and have some control over the info people get. Then the content of the landing page is some soulless, post-post-appropriated-hipsterism detached irony bullshit that only people on the outside of the sincere, authentic original movement think is funny or irreverent or cool. Like someone who saw Borat in 2005 and their takeaway was saying "ITS A NICE! I LIKE! MY WIFE!" loudly is what was funny about the character and missing the context and satirical message behind the most annoying, surface parts of the movie. This detached response to controversy is usually utilized by lower status groups deflecting authority and marginalizing the higher status group's power. Here, however, it's being used by a for-profit company that pissed off its paying customers in a "haters gonna hate" subtext and it feels like they think they are as cool and funny as counter-culture rebels telling authority and the mainstream to go kick rocks.

When I think cutting edge technology, I think Peter Frampton records.Let's just say this guy isn't lying and really DID research VNYL, and still subscribed, is that a person with an opinion you'd trust? Plus he's wearing a beanie in June, implying he's disoriented and detached from sanity. Another example; he says they don't have a lot of money, yet they thought it was a good idea to start a tech vlog. That's like being deaf and posting music reviews.
