Atom & His Package - S/T and Society of People Named Elihu
Chrundle The Great reacted to yeah_totally for a topic
Ever think to yourself about an option? A different way to be? And with those words the world was introduced to Atom & His Package. In an era of cookie cutter hardcore and pop punk acts, this Philadelphian one man punk rock machine delivered one of the most unique albums the punk scene had seen in years. The spiritual successor of bands like The Dead Milkmen, and They Might Be Giants, Atom and His Package’s first track “Avenger” was the bizarre story of taking revenge on his enemies, running away to an island with the love of his life, and solving the Israeli/Palestinian conflict in the Middle East…. And it just got better from there. He quickly became the single most controversial act in all of punk, people going as far as taking out ads bashing him in fanzines or banning his labels’ ads from them because he wasn’t punk/hardcore enough for them. Those people were idiots. Atom injected something that was sorely lacking in our scene…. FUN. He played the weirdest bills… I saw him with hardcore bands, old school punk bands, ska bands, emo/screamo bands, even a trip-hop band etc. I traveled 1,000 miles to see his “reunion” show at FEST 7, and it was one of the greatest shows I’ve ever seen. He reminded us that we were pretty much all nerds and got into this music because we were “uncool”. His music was great. It was sometimes silly, it was sometimes obnoxious, it was sometimes so beautifully simple and honest that it was perfect. We’re extremely happy to have the opportunity to reissue his first two records partnered with our friends at Toxic Toast Records – Atom and His Package (first time ever on vinyl!) and Society of People Named Elihu (first time on vinyl in the US!) for all of the people who love Atom as much as we do. So here’s to love songs to new age artists, leaving your friends and family to hang out with black metal bands, and praising Rob Halford for destroying metal stereotypes. Additionally, for every copy Asbestos Records sells, we will be making a donation to www.translifeline.com . It’s our 2nd fundraiser for them, and they’re really an incredible charity doing great work. The Mark Kozelek/Sun Kil Moon/Red House Painters thread
Tommy reacted to itsgoodtobefree for a topic
Benji is a wonderful record but I don't really care for any of the stuff that came after. Unfortunately, it has gotten to the point where I just glaze over the news of a new Mark Kozelek album coming out, which is a shame because the dude has made a few of the best albums I've ever heard.1 point -
Anyone into daptone records ? I’m pretty excited about this Sha La Das lp they just put up. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EDSSesrKz0k1 point

What video games have you been playing?

Yeah but I honestly wouldn’t bother with Pokken or DK. F you must play them, I understand cuz I had to as well but I regret spending the money on both of them. Played DK for like three hours and traded it in. The console is great, 99% of the exclusive are pretty great. IMO, the best game on the Switch is Mario+Rabbids Kingdom Battle. It’s fuckin’ incredible.1 point -

I stopped with the Christmas record, though I hated Benji and it’s live albums. I don’t think I enjoyed Among the Leaves that much.1 point -

Wow that pretty much sums up my exact cut off point. I didn't really dig Among the leaves but its the last one I bought outright. Benji was critically lauded n I gave it a few cursory listens but it never clicked. Partly because it is such a personal release. I get that its dealing with his actual family so I see the merit of naming individuals he knows in each song but somehow it isn't as relatable as other songwriters attempts to tackle grief and the fear of mortality and this at least for me is in part because of the inclusion of such specific minutiae, down the line that seems to have been the facet of the album he carried forward until we land where we are now: Records about buying churros from a gas station on his way to Nantucket. Gimme April and Admiral Fell Promises re-issues and then I can stop opening this thread.1 point -

PO Now: LIARS - TFCF & Sequel Album
ratbrain reacted to lethalenforcer for a topic
Could have sworn only the deluxe edition was touted at limited to 1k. Only thing unique was the packaging and autographed insert. The red always seemed to be the standard pressing. BM now has the new one on green vinyl up for PO. Way cheaper than MusicGlue and Mute’s $9 shipping: https://www.bullmoose.com/p/27901352/liars-titles-with-the-word-fountain-green-vinyl-tfcf-deluxe-edition1 point -

I’m thinking that the 7500 is just a big bunch of good ol’ black wax, but who knows. Would be fab if they arrange some EU distribution to reduce the shipping costs.1 point -
