  2. Ty Segall and Brian Chippendale of Lightning Bolt made a record. It’s catchy. https://famousclass.com/products/wasted-shirt-fungus-ii The album is exploding euphoria from start to finish. A morphing day-glo rainbow that will bring a smile to your face like if you were on your way to Washington DC for the Million Puppy March. Upon first spin, all boxes are checked and any previously held doubts are completely obliterated. The more you play it, the better it kabongs you upside your head. Hectic doesn't even begin to describe it. Brian and Ty, two mere particles in the grand scheme, collide at high speed, the technicians dive for cover, the reaction is recorded. Mutation is achieved. This is Freedom Rock. Turn up the volume. Hasten your emancipation. Sonic joy awaits. - Henry Rollins

  8. This new Midnight album RIPS. Seriously the most fun metal record I think I've heard in a while. I know it was mentioned pages back when the pre-order dropped a couple months ago, but I wanted to mention how much I love it, now that the whole thing is out there. Don't sleep on this one! https://www.metalblade.com/midnight/ https://midnight-ohio.bandcamp.com/album/rebirth-by-blasphemy

  9. And my comment was a strong disagree on Rough Trade. I don't see anything "cool as hell" about it. Everything is overpriced. 99% of the records there can be found in someone's local store and cheaper - maybe even cheaper online even with shipping - and there are much better places to grab a coffee. It's a solid venue. It's a shitty record store. Princeton is like an hour and a half away by car. Can't say its not a cool area, but I don't think anyone taking a short trip to NYC wants to spend their time traveling 3 hours to go to a record store in NJ or they'd probably have called the thread "Greater NYC Record Stores". Any cool ones in Connecticut?

  13. It's the same cover but the color looks different. The last pic on this post has the og press and the new press side-by-side.

  14. Yeah I felt the same, but after one time through the album the songs with Kristin Hayter taking the lead are a bit more accessible, not so much on the heavy side (as the ones with Dylan Walker), more fragile... it's a pretty bleak trip overall! Still not totally convinced though to buy right now, but I think it's similar to the Lingua Ignota albums for me, that it just takes a while to get into the music to appreciate it fully. If you're wondering what I'm talking about: Dig a bit into the Thrill Jockey website and you can find and download all tracks already, I was quite surprised by that.

  19. The shops in Greenpoint are where I spend most of my time. Best are Record Grouch, Captured Tracks and Academy Annex, but there are a couple others that can be covered in between if you have time. All pretty close together, and Peter Pan Donuts is excellent for a coffee break. Rough Trade in nearby Williamsburg is fine, but I rarely buy new stuff at a store and that’s all they do. The only shops I’ve liked in Manhattan for used selection are Other Music (now closed) and Ltd to 1. Everywhere else, the prices tend to be stupid.
