They all have obi strips, but in past years HMV have sold items as exclusive when they were either just exclusive to the UK or had an exclusive HMV obi strip and were available elsewhere without it.

Just came here to say that I am one of the poor souls who actually purchased this, after missing out many of the ridiculous GJ items in the past. Ok, $200 - probably shouldn’t have done it and just gone to the fucking show. To add insult to injury, after checking my account this morning - there is an additional $5.98 international transaction fee for purchasing on my debit card from MusicGlue. I deserve every rude, asshole comment from the community after this fucking madness. If you are also going to the Chicago show, you can slap me in the face in person - might not feel as defeating.

Don't feel bad at all. Glassjaw is an awesome band and have some great music. At least they're self promotion and merchandising is inventive, albeit frustrating. I am seriously considering the vinyl myself. I have been a fan of the band ever since the original release of EYEWTKAS. Honestly, I have paid more for other vinyl records in the secondary market, but this is a hard price to swallow. If your a fan of this band, than who's to say your wrong for spending the money though?

Discogs sale history is also “rolling” for anyone who wasn’t aware – forgot the exact window, I think it’s a few years? – which means that the Brand New tour variant that some clown (allegedly) paid $1,500 for will not show as $1,500 after a few years. Only really impact stuff that’s super rare and seldom sold, but it explains why certain variants - as well as your maximum collection value - are subject to raising and dipping over time instead of just permanently rising. Regarding everything else, I think MCDELTAT summed it up pretty nicely. No one gives a shit about black vinyl unless it’s the only option out there. And it’s pretty commonplace for an “ooh” inducing variant, 4th press /2,000, to fetch more than a 1st press variant /300 that just looks so-so. I see that all the time. As far as MSRP is concerned, you just get a feel for which labels or distros gouge and which ones price fairly. Not always, but typically the larger the artist & label, the higher base price you’ll see for an LP. It’s why before taxes and shipping, a Topshelf Records 2LP may be $24 but a Weeknd 2LP may be $45. Bands and labels are pretty efficient at gauging how much they can charge and get away with for their fanbase.

Yea I got a $1200 table for like 50% off cuz they were discontinuing the model or something, plus a 2m bronze that was discounted like $150 because it didn't come in the box even tho it was unused. I'm usually too lazy to bother with vintage tables/carts as opposed to speakers and amps, but there's no way in hell I'm gonna pay even close to what new stuff is worth lol

Discogs at least doesn't use an average, so an extra high/extra low doesn't have as big an effect as if they did. They use a median, not a mean for the middle number.

In addition to supply and demand being the main culprit, Discogs creates an additional price hike on a lot of records by showing the pricing history as just 3 numbers on each release page. Often one copy of a record will sell for above the 'going rate'—maybe because no other copies are available, or because of a lack of availability in a certain country, or even because of an autograph. This changes the "highest" sale price on the Discogs page, and unfortunately, most sellers see this as a marker of what the record can sell for. Suddenly every copy is listed higher, and a few sales later, the median price goes up too. This is less common with other resale sites, even eBay, because rather than one sale being an obvious outlier (as it would be when scrolling through sold eBay listings), one highest Discogs sale can reframe the whole price bracket for a record. And the relationship between Discogs and the 'hobby' of record collection is pretty unique—it is basically the bible of pressings and resale value, the one place pretty much everyone consults.

I'd rather not pay $119 plus tax for 3 LPs I already have or can get for $80, but you do you.

I would have to assume it's just supply and demand. In your Stranger Danger example, even though only 150 copies exist of that specific variant, how many copies exist in total across all variants? If everyone that wants a copy has a copy, then demand won't be there. And if in your Superbloom example, the only pressing is that /600 one, and a few thousand people still want it but don't have it, the price can be driven up. If you're looking for an answer as to "Why?" one may have more demand than the other, there are far too many variables to say. Maybe a specific variant looks the best/coolest so everyone wants it. Or everyone wants the rarest variant. Or that particular album sucked and no one wants it. Or one pressing sounds significant better than the other pressings. The list is endless.

Nope. Got my copies of Ruiner and Mute Print yesterday in tip-top shape. In higher quality everything over the De-Loused copy that showed up too, haha.

These are 100% already pressed. They’re just gonna store them in a warehouse for ten years before shipping them to the address with which you bought a ticket. And the colours will be in the reverse order.

Got all three in today and these are amazing. These recordings sound better than they ever have. I need a new record from these guys, and soon. …and hopefully from the same label. Really impressed with the overall product that I may just sell my originals.

Took a flier on a couple Horace Silver LPs today for $30. "Searching for the 27th Man" "Silver's Serenade" The Serenade is a legit first pressing in VG+ condition - deep groove in side one. I won on that flier - I knew the condition was good and I couldn't even get a repress of either at those prices, so too a shot and scored.

Funny, I just recently found out about this one. I was really into collecting Mainstream titles for a while, but never knew about this one. They do have a reissue of it.

Finally did a side by side comparison using this and an original mono pressing in VG+ condition. The original mono still wins. Don't know if it's because it's mono and this is stereo, but the tonal qualities are different and the OG sounds a bit less muted. I will say that I have no regrets buying this new version. It is beautiful and I highly recommend the high expense as it will be a jewel in any collection for years to come. My test to see if there can be a better version than the original has come to an end and as usual with old jazz records the original pressing won.
