  1. exact same deal at the album release show in LA. it was entertaining at first but painful as the night went on. madlib was so drunk that he would stop bandana songs to play something random “he liked” and Freddie would stop rapping and just stare or yell at him.

  4. Cheers! Loved this season. ST didn't disappoint. That Fireworks variant looks good so I'm glad amazon has it as well.

  5. Plaidroom Records has these up now. The limited color vinyl is the cheapest you'll find them online at Plaidroom. About $10 - $12 cheaper than Bullmoose or Temporary Residence.

  6. Saw them perform last night at MoMA PS1. Madlib was drunk as hell, kind of kept messing with the beats too much and Freddie would have to finish the verse acapella and end songs early. Opened with Crime Pays and encored with Crime Pays. Also played Thuggin twice.

  7. Anything Klayton does is an instant buy for me, but Argyle Park is definitely a holy grail. For what it's worth, the last few FiXT releases that have been pressed to vinyl sound great.

  8. Saves the Day is a punk/hardcore inspired band that made some (pop) punk music. Dashboard Confessional is not and has never been. Don't see the correlation.. This track list reminds me of all the people still on my social media that were so into music but never listened to a new album after high school. Like what is the demographic here? 30-something small-towners?

  12. Or, bring the couple into the fold for a small cut to help you identify and catalog the LP's & 78's that 'he could only dream of owning.' Kinda reminded me of the cut 'Sex Pistols' single 7" scene from High Fidelity.

  13. Depending on your location, Princeton Record Exchange in NJ buys large collections and they make house local house calls from what I understand. One thing that might be helpful is to take some video of the collection (highlighting some samples). Emailing the video to dealers will be helpful to them if the condition is at the higher end.

  14. I've had some pretty limited experience with the 78s which are fun to research but the majority of them aren't worth much. From what I understand, there are a few different labels that are very rare and are worth a ton, like the Paramount blues records. They are rare because there wasn't many of them pressed, but most of the white people dance music isn't rare because it was pressed for the masses. Your best bet is to look up individual titles, probably the ones from the labels you don't recognize will be worth more. Just know that typically the people who collect those kinds of records are looking for condition and rarity and often times are pretty intense about them. My advice, if you want to unload them is to get in touch with that dude and his wife and have them make you an offer. It sounds like they are interested and will give them all a listen which is ultimately the point of collecting...to enjoy the music. My best advice, is just because it is old, doesn't mean it is worth anything and that these records are only worth what other people are willing to pay. From what you have described it doesn't sound like there is anything really rare or hard to find but it is really hard to know without actually looking at them. You could also look them up on discogs.com. You aren't going to find a ton of the 78s on there probably but the LPs you should be able to look up. Best of luck!

  16. Also can't recommend this enough. Double lp from Smalltalk. Members of the Bouncing Souls, The Ratchets, Worthless United, and other New Jersey punk bands, playing 80s style synth pop. John Hughes movie worship, in the same vein as the Cure, Echo & the Bunnymen, Psychedelic Furs. Totally worth it for 5 bucks. https://www.deepdiscount.com/plus/809796006414

  19. I associate Math with time signature changes and technical prowess -- with any melody that is catchy -- as an added bonus. Even Tool has some quite mathy elements, like try to count out Vicarious, and even the hit Schism. They are most 5/4, but do change up a lot. Old school: Kansas and King Crimson could really have some great mathy stuff with and without melodic elements - and so could SO many other Prog bands. Those that dabbled in Jazz or Fusion, could be very mathy. I always think of Bill Bruford. Most of the others have already been mentioned like Don Cab, Giraffes, Tera Melos, etc. TMP are not math imho. I love them, own their stuff and saw them live, but their jazziness rarely gets "mathy." Surprised, no one mentioned Meshuggah - Tomas Haake is the epitome of math drumming. Each hand and foot in 4 different time signatures!!!! Surprised no one mention Lite, Toe or Te' // they are not always mathy, but do get quite mathy at times. There is a whole world of math, which for lack of a better word, is "spastic" to my ears. They are geniuses and prodigies, Savants, and most of us lesser mortals will never appreciate what they are doing. There were folks who existed long before before it was called math, that seemed like in another universe, but if you stayed with them them long enough, you could hear the cycle start to come around again. Thelonius Monk had a track and I can't recall it, but my former band director asked me to check him out in the 80's to see if I could decipher the code. It was more of a challenge than actual enjoyment of the music, but I knew he was a genius.

Also, sadly defunct, but in a similar kind of happy vibe math rock https://youslut.bandcamp.com/album/critical-meat (there's an LP of this floating about that has this and another slamming album on it - cost effective!)
