  6. Ordered the /300 Variant..... God this sucks. Yellowcard created music for some of my most favorite high school memories. Then when they came back from their hiatus, they continued to make some of my most favorite music. I listened to their new song this morning, before the news about this being their final album, and thought about how incredible of a catalog they have. Album after album of just incredibly strong music. I am so thankful for them.

  11. Haha I realize it sounds crazy, but I don't want to hear what people have to say because I get a preconceived notion and I'll end up searching it out within the song. Like when "When I Was Young" came out, someone pointed out the bridge sounded broken at the part where Tom stops the guita. It's always stuck with me since then. I'd rather hear it on my own first so I'm not seeking out the "flaws" or comparisons people are drawing. Just a blank slate. Haven't read any reviews yet either until I get this in my ears.

  15. As we ramp up to the announcement of the TJT release, Brett Detar fans are going to want to be checking their email this afternoon... From the website: Originally released back in 2010 and available exclusively through Brett's website, this one-time pressing of his debut solo album has been out of print for years. While not entirely back in print, we are excited to offer up the last remaining crumbs of the original pressing as a unique standalone variant. We ordered 500 copies of the record initially, but - as many pressing plants do - we had a small amount of "extras" and we received 512 copies when all was said and done. The original pressing came with a cardboard slipcover with a screen printed bird on it and we began work on those long before the records finished pressing. Since we were numbering them out of 500, the extra twelve copies have been chilling in the MOMR office space. That brings us to present day, where we took those last twelve copies and we gussied them up with a new slipcover that features alternative and beautiful artwork hand-drawn by Kris Johnsen and screen printed here at MOMR. These copies also come housed in the same original gatefold jacket that features reverse board printing, gold foil and custom embossing. If you haven't seen one of these, you don't know exactly how gorgeous they are! Each copy is numbered out of 12 and this is the absolute last chance to get your hands on a copy!

  18. you act like you've never offended someone with something you've said. offending someone doesn't make you bad person. people are creating an environment where saying the right thing takes precedent over doing the right thing. it's sick. you feel comfortable judging me and everyone i hang out with by mere internet statements. you know nothing about the people i help in life. the people i accept. the sacrifices i make to help others overcome disadvantages.

  19. No, he's not literally Hitler, no where near that. I was just being an asshole turning your quote around. The one thing that he's proven, from my perspective, by opening his mouth, is that he's very ignorant. And that ignorance leads to him being very xenophobic, racist, misogynistic, islamophobic, and homophobic. Actually, not just buzz-words. 'Like every other person on the planet'?? You either hang out with the worst people, or are one of the worst people.

  20. I was originally going to post this in the Belle and Sebastian 12" box set thread, but since it has implications for all sorts of new releases I figured I'd start a topic for it. This isn't purely vinyl-related, but for those of you that haven't been following - it looks like the UK has voted to leave the European Union and its sent the GBP and (to a lesser extent) the Euro plummeting. In fact, the £ is currently at its lowest level since 1985!! Good news if you've been eyeing some UK imports, or something from amazon.co.uk. It's like a 10-15% off sale across the board. The aforementioned B&S box set, for example, is currently about $20 less than it would have been just 12 hours ago. (Of course, for our record-buying cousins across the Atlantic, all it does is make things from the US even more expensive...)

  21. Again. How many people think this way and then essentially throw their vote away voting for the big party because they think they'd be throwing their vote away to vote for someone else? It's just a bummer to see people rationalizing voting for garbage candidates.

  23. As I'm sure members who live in Chicago can agree with this statement, seriously FUCK the Chicago Metro Hub. I have a package with two records that I have rarely seen for sale coming from Japan. It's been roughly 27 days since they first shipped. About 17 of those days are days where my package went MIA in that black hole at the Metro Hub. It's been very frustrating since the lady who I spoke with, who also rarely answers their phone or returns messages, basically said they're gone unless they randomly get scanned somewhere. Guess we'll see what happens. Such a bummer

  31. You're very wrong about that tax thing. From what I read, you claim that a 15% flat corporate tax would incentive corporations to cease using tax havens or loopholes in order to avoid taxation, thereby increasing the tax revenue. Walmart definitely avoids paying their taxes as much as they can. One of the ways they do so is by taking advantage of tax havens, as you mentioned. Meaning that they move revenues/profits into other corporate branches overseas where the tax rate is substantially lower. This sucks, this creates an unfair advantage for Walmart versus small business. And it's totally unethical considering that it's pretty well-known that a huge proportion of Walmart's staff need to supplement their income with social welfare programs. But on their 2016 financial statements for the US it very clearly shows that they had $21B in income before taxes and paid $6.5B in taxes. 31%. Technically they should be paying 35%, but they use loopholes to reduce their percentage liability. Cutting this number to 15% and then believing that there's so hypothetical way of removing all corporate tax loopholes so that it's actually 15%, you have still lost $3.35B in tax revenue, and that's just one company. You talk about fixing the broken system. I don't see it as broken. One thing that bothers me really is the "Make America Great Again" slogan. It's like, fuck off, America is great. I like it here a lot. It's not a utopia and it never will be, but we're all working pretty hard and things are going pretty good for most of us. You know what won't make America great? Cutting the tax rate literally in half for billion dollar corporate giant companies.

  32. even if you don't believe building a wall along the border is a positive for america, you are absolutely crazy if you think everything at the US/Mexico border is fine and dandy. cartels are currently trafficking residents from central and south america into the USA at a ridiculous rate (40% higher than it was in 2014). these cartels are brutal. they kill at an alarming rate. they are selling women into sex slavery and everyone they deal with becomes generally less safe. immigration and border security is a serious issue and it shouldn't be disregarded or reduced to labels like "racist" or "xenophobic" so easily.

  33. keep in mind that the current corporate tax rate (34% and higher for any business income over $335,000) is assessed in addition to all personal income tax (15-40%), FICA tax (6.2%), and FICA match (6.2%) on all payroll employees. for partnerships like mine, i pay almost $1 to the government for each $1 i get to actually keep. this doesn't even include things like health insurance or sales tax. i'm not sure why you think small businesses only pay a couple thousand per year. also keep in mind that the largest firms in the nation are legally avoiding their current corporate tax rate by storing cash in off-shore havens. if the corporate tax rate was lowered, it stands to reason that companies would pay out more cash in the USA at the 15% rate instead of avoiding paying it altogether by storing cash overseas. abolishing tax havens is never the answer, as it will never be possible. there will always be some nation that will step up and facilitate the haven. estate tax is nothing more than a penalty on being rich. we need to foster a climate of jobs and self sufficiency instead of relying on people who actually create wealth to support us. our current social programs are a disaster. the people who could actually use the money get pennies on each dollar that is paid into the programs. it would be better for everyone to actually fix the broken system, than to keep the broken system and raise taxes even higher. the US gov is currently pocketing $3.5 trillion dollars per year from american workers and are mismanaging it every step of the way.

  36. You seem to have strong feelings about this. Would you care to contribute towards this endeavor's fulfillment? With a monetary contribution of $15, you can pick one record for me to listen to. For a $35 contribution, you can pick 5 records, and I will say your name out-loud before each one. But if you wish to support me with a $75 contribution today, you will get naming rights to my new turntable, as well as agency over 2 full month's-worth of my listening choices! Don't want me to listen to any of the new records I've bought, because I waited so long to get a new turntable? Frustrated because I wasted money frivolously? Want to deprive me of listening to PG.Lost or Jakob until September? INDULGE YOUR SADISM TODAY.
