  2. I think this is true of most of the people who frequent this website. Love of the music got us here and it keeps us here. Of course there are people who buy variants and low pressing records solely because of their rarity and collector's appeal but I'd argue the vast majority of us buy the record for the music and all the cool looking colours and variant flair is just a bonus. If there's an album I like with several variants, I'll buy which one I think looks the coolest, if there's only black, I'll buy that. OP (a troll, I know) acts like people wouldn't buy a repress of a long OOP album if it wasn't limited and didn't have cool variants, which is totally untrue.

  3. Why do people collect coins if they're not going to spend them? Why do people collect stamps if they are not going to mail things with them? Why do people collect antique firearms if they aren't going to shoot them? Why do people collect keychains from states they visit without using them to carry keys? Why do people collect Pokemon cards without actually playing the game? Why do people collect coffee mugs if they're not going to drink coffee out of all of them? Why do people collect quilts if they don't sleep under all of them? Why do people collect vases if they don't put flowers in them? And most importantly.... why do you give a shit?

  8. The argument that VC buys records based on color, rarity, and other limited factors over true sound quality is a good argument. The OP, and his helper are putting up a terrible version of that argument however. But it is indeed a fact, a lot of people around here buy for different reasons than sound or the music. People offering to sell their PO before the record even arrives is a great example. Putting it up for sale or trade soon after it was released/arrived is another example.

  9. Crazy, PLEASE keep your bullshit contained to that ridiculous thread you already created. We Mondo collectors have already acknowledged that we have a problem...

  12. I'd love to live in your fantastic la-la-land of music, where musicians can live off their hopes, dreams, and a few bucks made from selling $10 LP's at basement shows (split four ways, of course). These variants that you think are terrible keep labels in business, allow bands the opportunity to continue making music, and keep fans interested in their work. The more vinyl there is in the world, the better - who gives a shit if some people want to buy it in three colors? You can just buy your black copy and be happy with it. Or, even better, if you don't support this practice, don't support the labels that do it.

    SECULAR HAZE'S FINAL GIVEAWAY

Wow, excellent responses so far guys. I will post mine soon. I went to see NIN last night and met a guy that opened for Converge in Detroit on the Jane Doe tour in 2001. I was also rocking my AWLWLB shirt which is now 5 for 5 in "nice shirt man" responses at shows.

  20. Yeah and you're right. I often will go for the most limited variant, if it's there. Why not, right? But, It's fairly common around here for records to be purchased because they look cool. Only to be resold or traded once they actually hear the music and they don't like it. I obviously don't have that much interest in the subject because I haven't made a crazy ass thread like this guy, but I do believe that the argument is out there to be had. It also can hurt the customers, bigger labels upping their prices and making more than enough variants because they know that kids will buy it, or maybe all 3-5 variants. I guess it's all about what really motivates you to buy records. For me, its the fucking music, color, pressing, limited whatever the fuck doesn't matter for me. When I'm searching for a record, I just hope its still in press, not that a certain variant is available.

  23. Why would you ever waste this much time worrying about what other people do with their money? I admit, I have been judgmental looking at someone's trade list to find every record is sealed, or they have variants of every release in their collection. But what would ever change their mind about collecting that way? Certainly not THIS. The fact that you thought this issue was worthy of a public forum paints a nice picture of how dimwitted you are.

  25. Correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure that somewhere within your massive post about 12" singles, you praised the fact that you could buy numbered/colored variants of singles. I may be wrong on the color aspect, but I swear you sung the praises of a numbered single, so what makes a standard LP any different?? Regardless, you're a fuckin moron. Yes we all know why there are variants and shit, we know its the label cashing in on the hardcore's, Third Man Records are the kings of making high end shit to sit on a shelf, but guess what, NOT A SINGLE PERSON GIVES A RATS FUCKIN ASS YOU CRY BABY BITCH! People have money, they bust their ass for it, if they wanna buy these things, then so be it. You're content with $10-$15 dollar black albums, so purchase them and shut the fuck up. Also, did you happen to take into account that the recent influx in price of a standard record may be due to the simple fact that VINYL IS FUCKING BACK! With only a small amount of manufacturers on this planet, and the demand to get records made, I'm pretty sure it's put a lot of shit on the manufacturers to flip product as fast as they can. Not to mention, good ol' 'Merica needs everything now now now, so add more costs to try and bump orders in front of some other labels, and presto, theres your $25 record.

    Christmas music!

The August Burns Red instrumental Christmas release from last year called 'sleddin hill' is pretty great. The Bob Dylan Christmas record is a must have as well.
