  1. Nothing is being over-thought. Newbury is a straight up player who licenses popular record titles to have exclusive color variants made only to be sold at nearly double the cost of most other in print editions because their edition is "limited" and "exclusive" and the suckers lap it up. People are free to be taken in by it but when you consider that music purchasers generally aim to have a larger quantity of records at their disposal than rounds of golf, tanks of gas or IMAX movie experiences it stands to reason that if a product can be and is sold at a reasonable price, then selling the same essential product with an extra baked in level of exclusivity or scarcity just to pander to a certain gullible demographic is particularly reprehensible and also thereby your analogy does not land. Not the end of the world. Just a greedy and ugly way to take advantage of those affected by a very particular type of product hype. You vote with your wallet. Keep buying overpriced shit and the shit you want will keep going up in price. I'm one of those crazies who would rather their physical music format be further to the affordable side. Plus, I'm not exactly sitting on a mountain of money and would like each of my dollars to go as far as they can. I would also never play golf. Ever.

  2. Relax. Just because it isn't fundamental to life, doesn't mean I can't critique the business practices surrounding the sale of it. I know its not medication (nor a credit card balance) and I never implied that it was in any way similar. In fact I completely rejected the comparison of record pricing to any other type of entertainment product but especially something as fundamentally necessary as fuel for your means of transportation. I merely pointed out that it is a lot by today's standards with direct comparisons to a nearly identical product of the exact same format and if people keep buying up the specialized versions of products at ridiculous prices they will encourage those who produce or sell said products to keep inflating the prices even on the regular non-specialized basic editions. I think that is a valid concern. This is a vinyl message board. I'm limiting my critique to vinyl prices. I'm also not advocating that anyone buy more than one copy of any record. I guess you could say that I'm attempting to be persuasive against anyone buying Newbury Comics exclusives because their prices, in my contention, are an insult. I don't think that's a serious transgression. And still, I'm not even aggressively dictating to anyone that they must not buy those editions. I'm simply providing a voice of dissent for my own venting and for anyone who wishes to engage in the conversation. My concern is that it would be nice if engaging in the practice of consuming products like vinyl records could remain somewhat affordable to me. And of course I'm using my own measure of affordability to make that case admittedly. If the cost of production actually justifies such a spike in the retail price of the product then maybe that just means that I get priced out of participating in the consumerism of a product that is important to me and that is something that obviously concerns me. I hope that its clear that I enjoy accumulating and listening to vinyl records. Here I am on a discussion forum dedicated to records talking about that and all the aforementioned issues surrounding it. Also, if this topic and my position on it aggravates you that much, you luckily have the liberty of ignoring it. If you want to debate it, I'm clearly happy to. PS Fuck golf still.

  3. Also if you don't like the more expensive colored variant gimmick....you can just buy the standard release...

  7. If $40 IS much for someone.....maybe instead of buying the 5th variant of this record they should put that towards their credit card bill. Beyond that they should sell it for whatever they want and fuck off with complaining about scummy exploitation. This isn't medication that is being marked up and people are dying this is a record that cost $40 instead of $25 and blarg......get over it. #Whitepeopleproblems

  13. Smartpunk has the Artist's Pick EP for $15 which is $5 less than what the band is selling it for. https://smartpunkshop.com/products/taking-back-sunday-artist-s-picks?fbclid=IwAR3fJeEnAsIb-WD21L-rzt0plhJB12D7bTcHitbJhe6qWVQIw3nn57L9J_A

  14. I don't get blaming a company or band for trying to make money. Nobody is forcing you to buy something. Let the people that enjoy buying this stuff do it if that's what they're into. As far as Newbury, yes they're generally overpriced but usually their stuff retains or increases in value if that's what you're into. But, more importantly, as a previous poster mentioned the pressings are generally excellent. Plus they have sales constantly so it's really not so bad if you don't mind waiting.

  15. Anyone hitting these up? I know @jhulud is gonna be there for all three nights, and I'm flying in for the final show on Sunday. If there's enough of us, let's put together a VC meetup.

  16. LSD and weed aint free, son. Nah but the TMR prices are out of hand. I give newberry a pass cause every record I've grabbed from them has been stellar quality and they don't go overboard with the colors like some labels do (Relapse...) That and they do pressings of albums that have long been out of print on occasion... I was more than happy to spend $30 shipped for their repress of Ire Works instead of an easy $70+ on discogs.

  17. I'm not sure what records your buying where $21 is a standard price but I just can't do it anymore. Just for fun since you needed to share your opinion. Record: $21 for the standard black Shipping to Canada: $12.73 (which is actually quite reasonable. A lot of labels are charging $15 to $18 now) Total: $33.73 US which is $45.10 Canadian at the current exchange rate, a little more after the Paypal rate. My record buying has dropped considerably in the last few years due to the exchange rate and more expensive shipping. I grab what I can of Amazon.ca and order a few things I really want the rest of the time. An average record shipped from the US is now between $40 to $50 for me. So yeah, I think $21 for a standard pressing is a bit much.

  18. Let's not overthink this. First, it's $40 we're talking about. A cheap round of golf. A tank of gas. 2 IMAX movie tix. No debates (snarky or otherwise) needed... it's stocking stuffer fun $$$. Second, if someone wants to collect 'em all more power to 'em. Christ, you only live once and there's plenty of daily 'accideals' to make up for any margins if you're an Excel kinda guy....

  20. Definitely considering ordering IFAF with Oceana, still a solid album. I would give ANYTHING for them to press Of Machines. Probably my favorite release on Rise. I know it won't happen, but it would be cool if they pressed Decoder's album too.

  21. Yeah man SCOIT is amazing, and definitely better than the ones after. But train of thought and octavarium still have (to me at least) still some of the old DT spirit in them, they completely lost that from systematic chaos on...

  24. Cmon heavy weight double lps should cost $9 TOPS, shipping should be free, and all records should include a personal apology from the label AND band for how long it took to arrive on the sparkling marble castle steps of whoever ordered it. this new newberry variant is cool, I’d probably grab it if I hadn’t already scooped that orange sand/blue sky one they did last year. Holo cover is neat though. Price is right in line with I’d expect, it’s not super awesome but I’m not gonna throw on my PC shades about it. My collection would be pitiful if I refused to buy albums over standard markup. Now $60 for the tour variant of the sciences right off the merch table? Or totally unrelated but $60 for that Norma Jean boxset which is literally the packaging of the original standard issue lp plus a see through piece of parchment with some lyrics and a black folder with a feather in it minus the sturdy gatefold jacket that came with the original? Fuck THAT noise.

  25. My guess would be because of assholes like sasan and stl_ben. hey Ben, maybe people wouldnt beat the flipper horse if you weren’t a flippant cunt about it, even well over a year later. I will never pass up a chance to tell you to go fuck yourself. and holy shit this sasan character may be the most entitled bitch I’ve seen in my short time on here. It’s right up there with a long winded signature about how black vinyl is just like... superior, man... You are a grown ass man filing PayPal claims against an independent label over a few bucks. Do you feel like a big man now that you got your $5 back? fuck both of y’all.

  26. Killing Joke's name is mud on Pledgemusic at the moment. People have been waiting years for Killing Joke Symphonic and the box set I linked to was (until recently) supposed to contain all of the releases in the CD set, but something went wrong...... As for the MoV pressing not being available in the UK, keep an eye on Amazon.de. They often have MoV colour pressings and also aren't in the UK.

  27. Yeah sturdy gatefold with embossed silver numbers on the back panel, poly lined inner sleeves 8 page lyric book with some associated album photos and a near 12" by 12" print of the cover sans the typography. Sound quality is really ace and it may be up there with my best sounding records. 180 gram for most of us doesn't mean much and silver may seem at odds with their love of all things green but I have to say this is one of the most beautiful re-issues I've gotten my hands on this year.
