Can't believe nobody is into studying history, religion, theology, philosophy in here. This is some of the most interesting stuff in academia. I guess a thread about Christian crab rock is a turn off. Two things: If you're willing to accept that being 'punk' means the core of America (nay, the world) accepts the 2003 version of popular music incarnations of punk (i.e., Blink 182, Good Charlotte, Sum 41, etc), then it shouldn't be unreasonable to believe that people who are religious can still espouse essential core beliefs of punk ideology in the same way atheists and agnostics do. Also, with regard to Jesus, there is historical evidence to support that Jesus of Nazareth was a real person. Debating his divinity is another matter. There was a Jewish historian named Flavius Josephus. He wrote a lot about Jewish history, the famous Jewish Wars and what occurred during the first century of the common era. He wrote some about Jesus and made references to him which is important since he was Jewish and didn't view Jesus as Messiah (meaning he wasn't a follower and had no reason to report on him other than citing him as a historical figure - he had no agenda). Because he wrote in the 1st century, his writings are considered to be first-source material, and thus are more trustworthy than others that appeared later. There are still other factors that come into play when considering authorship and authenticity of his writings (what textual criticism aims to prove in works of antiquity). Another thing we need to make the forum better is "VC local", with subforums based on geographic location. The most repeated thread on this site is "I am going to ... for a weekend, recommend me what to do". I've posted it a couple times and get "great idea" but it never happens. Am I supposed to PM an admin? And it doesn't take a masters thesis to figure out a system to set it up. By state for the US, province for Canada, country for Europe, and then "everything else". Simple.

My initial thought was that restricting the forum might hurt the amount of business in the sale threads but I don't deal with people who have really low post counts anyways. I think invite joining only is a bad idea. I don't know a single person in my non internet life that collects vinyl. We are too few and far between for invites to make it around, unless we are just inviting random internet strangers (then, whats the point?). A waiting period isn't a horrible idea but another would be to just have these new mods lock threads. When someone asks how to ship a records, they just say "duplicate thread, read the stickies", lock it, and let it drift off into the sunset.
