  1. with my dad and my best friend and im just a little excited about it to say the least. The area i live in known as the "South Bay", which is a beautiful beach community in So.Cal between Long Beach & Santa Monica, has been without a independent record store for roughly the last 8-10 years. The South Bay has a rich music history being home to many classic bands ranging from Black Flag, Descendents, Pennywise to The Beach Boys. A big part of me growing up was me and my dad taking weekend trips to the record store and my relationship with my best friend grew because of both of our involvement with local bands so naturally this is a partnership that has been a long time coming. Currently we are in the process of looking for a location. So my question is, does anyone on these boards have any insider knowledge or tips. Wither it's distros, store supplies like racks or just any little quarks that may not be general knowledge about running a record store. We will also be launching a online store, which already exsists but primarily focuses on t-shirts which is consumermerch.com we have yet to decide but the store will most likely be Consumer Records. We are hoping to open our doors just before summer time rolls around.

  2. It's like you guys have never heard of the concept of arts patronage. That's essentially what Kickstarter is becoming in the realm of music. People donate thousands of dollars a year to keep "fine arts" like orchestras, choirs, etc. functioning; this is just a more pop-culture-geared form of arts patronage, similar to how you might donate $100 to PBS and only get a tote bag in return. You're not paying for the tote bag; you're paying for the appreciation and hopeful continuation of the art that person/company is creating.

  3. Tell your friend he's fairly shitty. I stay out of the flipping debate, I tend towards the "Who Cares" side of things honestly. What differentiates this from other cases is that Clearview entered this with such good intentions. They kept prices low by selling direct to fans and have gone out of their way to live up to the punk ethos. Their communication and acceptance of fan feedback has been commendable - it's so damn obvious that they created this first and foremost for fans. There are many reasons to sell an item but to buy and then sell it in this instance is scummy. Now, why with a thread full of people ready to sell their lung to get a copy of this did you decide to toss it off to some shitball friend of yours who had no interest? You could have honored what Clearview created by putting it in the hands of someone that cared and instead I foresee your pal getting an unpaid item case in the end. Finally, I help a ton of people on here get limited items at cost. Don't ever ask me for a favor. Peace.

  4. i've felt this way since it's inception. i can see why it's useful for some things, but mostly bands use it because doing things that way is easier than getting a job and saving up their own money.

    MAN ADVICE

"Excuse ma'am, I couldn't help but notice your daughter has rather large titties. First, congratulations on producing such an ample bosom, and secondly madam, might I inquire about her hand in courtship?" Would have loved to see how that played out. I got no advice Sean. Just support. Hang in there dude.

  12. while I generally agree with this (I am not a variant collector...), there is nothing wrong with repurposing shitty-old-beat-to-fuck 45s. Seriously, does the world need to listen to more scratched copies of Herb Alpert?

  13. PBS and many museums are non-profit/not-for-profit organizations. bands are for-profit ventures. a stark difference. you donate to PBS and museums for being vehicles that distribute art, but you do not donate to artists themselves in this context. you pay for their art once it has been created (unless it is contracted, personal, etc.). such is not the case with kickstarter. also, an organization's for-profit or non-profit status can completely change how someone perceives/interacts with it.

  16. I bought two sets; my wife would of kicked my ass for spending so much for it but I put in extra hours at work and sold vacation time to get them. I don’t plan on selling them. Just a really, really big fan of Kody and all his work. Got me thru a lot of shitty times and have lot memories with his music. Like singing cadence in Kuwait to my platoon and having about 45 or so grown Army men and women running and singing "Black hole in my Mind" that shit is priceless. So yeah I really wanted this; sucks that I couldn’t get the regular set with all the rainbow of colors my little girl really wanted that Backchannel Broadcast on Blue Vinyl.

  18. Bro, come on. Bro. Just be real. If you came on here and were just honest and said that you bought 2 sets, one to flip and one to keep, I think most people would have just let this died. Coming up with a cockamamie story just makes you look like a tool. With that said I bought two sets, but I plan on giving the Metal Box to my mom and the Bagged version to my dad. If they both hit the ebay it's all my mommy and daddys fault.

  28. I don't understand this... if she said "no," it's rape. If she COULDN'T say "no," it's rape, if she didn't say anything, it's rape. Therefore, they were rapists before the conviction, but it's even more black and white now, as they're convicted rapists. Also, regardless if a person commits it once or 1000 times, they are a rapist after the first time.

  31. Yes, their hearts are in the right place. So is yours. But publicly shaming someone for selling records on eBay is lame. I love what Todd and his wife did with this release, the effort they put in and all of that. I can't wait to spin my standard copy - I wasn't lucky enough to score tie-dye. But, I think it's really lame for a label to call out a flipper on a forum. Send a PM, message them through eBay, whatever. Don't call them out publicly and encourage people to sabotage their auction. People are getting so bent out of shape about what? Six records. Think of how idiotic that is. Six round discs - a luxury item for many people - have made this guy VC's Steve Bartman.

  44. i just remembered about the time i sold tickets to someone because everyone i was going to go with backed out. got this the next day, "Hey Kevin, I tried to take my girlfriend to the concert and ended up sitting in traffic for over three hours. It got so bad we ended up turning around and didn't go to the concert. Needless to say we were pretty disappointed. Is there any way you'd consider a full or partial refund? To make you feel better about it I'd donate that money to an alzheimers research charity in your name and send you the receipt. -Isaac" Because traffic is my fault and because if I choose to give the money to charity, I can't do it myself for some reason?

    PO: Clutch "Earth Rocker"

If you were wondering, this album is bad ass. If you like saying, "It's better than they're last few records, because it rocks a little more like the earlier stuff," you will be happy. If you like saying, "It's only available on black vinyl?" then, fuck you. It's still got the influence of the last 2 records, but the old edge is there, too. It sounds real nice. That is my review.

    MAN ADVICE

Update on the girl situation (because I know you're all dying to know, he said sarcastically). So I'm absolutely head over heals for this girl. She's been in New Orleans with friends for the last few days and we've been texting one another non stop, seriously, from the point we wake up until she falls asleep at night. We've both acknowledged it's pretty crazy how quickly we've connected and how it feels like we've known each other a lot longer than what we have. I know this thread is mostly for advice, but I'm more happy than I have been in a long long time and I just really want to tell it to anyone I can right now. Also, she's really really fucking cute.
