I've never heard this album before I bought it. It sounds more like a Maritime album then a Promise Ring album, but that's not a bad thing. It's really fucking good.

They're a brilliant one I hadn't thought of - seems like a lot of those psych bands go in and out of favor in less than a year.

I cancelled in the end. I like the record but not enough to spend $60shipped (excluding import charges). I wish your splatters all the best. Also, ahem, top shelve records do the best sounding and looking splatters. Like that G?G! looks great but the music is outstanding so married the best of both.

I've got to revive this old thread and mention Fucked Up. I feel like ten-or-so years ago people were hunting down their singles left and right - now they release a new album and hardly anyone cares, and it feels like it's been that way for the past few albums...

For any interested in paying less than an arm/leg shipping for Slow Crush's EP on vinyl, I just got 3 copies in from Flood Records, which brought the shipping down to about $6.50 per record from across the pond. - cost will be $23 ppd "friends" to US or add 3% for regular PP if you don't trust me. If interested please PM, I don't mind holding them a while if you need time to raise $, otherwise they will eventually go to discogs. If you haven't listened to it yet, I highly recommend it. I used a trick to see it with my Moviepass. Definitely not worth $15, but certainly worth 80 minutes if it's free and you've got nothing better to watch.

I don't understand the 2LP 4RPM treatment for Discreet Music in particular. Why would anyone want a nearly 30 min-long track cut in half?

Maybe try exploring labels as well, I've found some real hidden gems this way. There's lots of great lesser known releases that you may have missed from labels like 4AD, Subpop, and even the 90s pop punk labels. Some of those catalogs are yuge.

It 100% makes sense. I go through the same thing every once in a while and it just means I need to take a break and look at doing/listening to something else. Take a break, step back and go play videogames for a while, or take up hiking. Eventually either you'll start liking music again or you won't and either way it's fine. Sometimes you grow out of things, and sometimes that thing is your love of music. Sometimes you also just have peaks and valleys within your love of things.

RSD is hilarious. I remember when Deja Entendu was released there were two people fighting over the last one right in front of me (one of them claimed to have wanted it for his collection and the other was an old dude that obviously wanted to flip it). They kept yanking on it back & forth until it fell and I scooped it up. They were arguing with each other so much that I don't even think they realized it dropped.

Boris stuff was ridiculous for a while. I think they just put out way too much stuff and too many less than stellar releases. Blank Dogs, the Muslims, Red Sparowes, Jay Reatard.

I remember 10-12 years ago when the "New Weird America" scene was going strong, a lot of the stuff from No-Neck Blues Band, Sunburned Hand of the Man, Six Organs of Admittance, Charalambides, etc. was fetching crazy prices. Even though some of those releases were super limited and really nicely put together, now that the hype has died off, you can find most of them for a fraction of the old prices.

Best Coast had a decent run where the 7" were relatively expensive.
