  1. According to the wonderful words of everyone else online. The warmth must have been the sound of their money burning.

  5. From their Bandcamp: The vinyl edition main reason why the album was delayed. You might have heard that it is really hard to produce vinyl right now. We initially faced a production time of 11 months, but we found a way to do it faster and at the quality we wanted. This being said - the delivery was already delayed twice and we are now told that we will get it at the beginning of February. Cross your fingers, but be prepared for delays. Now for the fun part : Black 180gr vinyl has the best sound which is why we skipped the more fashionable colored choices. David Seidman had a field day designing for these big spaces [12x24 inches] and we are super excited to share this with you. We also included an insert on nice paper that features yet another 2 pieces of original artwork. This is really the flagship edition of the new album. 2000 double vinyl versions were made and we have a hard time imagining that they will ever get re-pressed. We wanted to make sure that this is something really special for the fans and we hope you will enjoy this as much as we do!

  6. I'm not doing much as every weekend. Put in some "overtime" at work earlier and now just sipping on some beers and listening to some Japanese hardcore punk and adjacent bands. Right now: Septic Death. I noticed that Bob Odenkirk's movie Nobody is on HBO Max...will likely be watching that later as the trailer was great.

  7. Got the 4th press of Aurora the other day, I love the spot gloss on the cover. I wanted to pick up Hush too but I’ll probably pick that up at their show on this tour

  10. Watched Antlers last night - Looks great, cinematography is solid. Otherwise it was pretty meh. That’s what I expected honestly, but my wife has wanted to watch this so 🤷‍♂️ (I really just wanted to watch more Yellowjackets; we’re going to see Hadestown tonight - [!!!] - so I won’t be able to get back to it until tomorrow; 3 episodes in and I’m hooked)

  11. Well this is genious.. release a new album and million different vinyl variants. Then under a year later release a new way better sounding mix of the album. Huge fan of Amenra and the new mix, but don't like how this was done...

  12. record on a flat surface (in inner sleeve), a blanket or something soft for protection, a 45-pound gym plate. i had a record come warped as shit once, like a goddamn pringle, and this did the trick. books ain't gonna cut it unless you have a couple dozen college textbooks

  13. The sensationalism around the promoters for WWWY and Astroworld being the same is hilarious. LiveNation is a gigantic company that promotes events worldwide. They literally own Ticketmaster. But they should be bankrupted for the Astroworld tragedy regardless.

  19. As much as I basically read all this as a rift between brothers unable to reconcile. I am curious how much Biggie helped keep them together and prevent their bullshit from getting in the way of the band because he's been with them for SOOO long, and with him gone, they lost those guardrails, even if the new manager is great.

  20. Question's Reflections of the Void, one of the best DM releases of 2020, is finally available on vinyl (black/ yellow/ milky clear) from Chaos Records: https://question-chaos-records.bandcamp.com/

  21. Yeah. I don't sell frequently enough (or in large enough volumes) to really be "stung" by this. It's the principle I find to be the biggest pain in the dick. An additional 15% cut [on profits] on top of sales tax? On top of Paypal fees? And submission of paperwork for the ~10-15 records I may sell throughout a calendar year? Fuck right off.

  22. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that music sales occupied exactly 0% of the lawmakers' minds when drafting this.

  23. Yeah. Unless you're a professional reseller with larger totals claiming close to no profit, I can't imagine the audit risk would be high unless you have some other red flags.
    1 point
  24. I mean, if you’re pretty honest about what you paid, the likelihood of an audit seems pretty slim.

  25. They can audit you and expect you to have the receipts to prove it. If you don’t, then they’ll tax you more since you can’t prove the cost basis.

  26. Keep in mind here that you only have to pay tax on the profits you make. You'll file this as self-employment tax. If you sell $1,000 worth of shit in discogs but you paid $900 for it, you only owe the government taxes on the $100 in profit. You'll report $1000 in sales and $900 in expenses. Edit: you might need to file this as capital gains tax. Records likely fall under collectibles here, in which case your net gains are taxed at 28% regardless of income bracket. Fun stuff. What this really means is that prices are going to go up to make up for the additional hit to profit.

  27. That’s cool and all if that’s a principle artists want to apply to their music, but I’ve found that 99% of them eventually go back on that idea, because money. Life happens, expenses happen – I wish I had a nickel for every time I heard an artist or label say that there are zero plans to ever repress a certain album, only to see it as a limited drop or RSD exclusive within 2-5 years. Bootleg markets – especially those priced this excessively – are everything wrong with modern vinyl though. Someone in another thread speculated that the kind of music that gets posted on VC – shit from the last 30 years, colored vinyl, limited editions – are more or less the NFTs of music enthusiasts. That seems exemplified with boots. These are all sourced from MP3s and can sound serviceable at best… but jokes aside, you can legitimately stream the same music at 320 or even 192 kbps, while simultaneously playing a YouTube video of “Vinyl Crackle Sound FX”, and you’re going to get the same result. From a listening perspective, it’s a total meme to willingly pay $70 for this junk. What that leaves is the satisfaction people get from having the spine of this record visible on their shelf. Or the option to have it framed, I suppose. Or the opportunity to snap a photo of it for Instagram (perhaps alongside the more affordable albums in the band’s discography) to larp as a devout fan and flex a complete collection, I guess. “But OG copies are $600. I’m not paying that.” Then don’t, as you shouldn't. Anyone who has been collecting vinyl for more than 6-7 years is probably aware of how everything eventually gets a reissue or repress. There’s been stuff that I would have never in my wildest dreams imagined would get repressed; albums from bands who’ve been defunct for 10+years, with labels no longer in business, and seemingly no demand to have the music pressed again. Patience is a virtue, etc. I would rather have a gap where that album will eventually go, than a garbage copy that “sounds okay” as MP3s on wax. But I’m me and you’re you. Maybe I value shelf space more than you do. Maybe $70 means more to me and the new releases I buy than it does to you and the prospect of saying you can finally own something that resembles a coveted album. People buy pastries with the sole intent of sitting on them and ripping ass so who am I to say what the world should or should not be spending money on at the of the day?
